Natalie POV
"Tessa, come back here," my Mom barged into the kitchen, trying to capture my daughter who was now in Mario's arms.
The stiffness in my bones finally released and I trudged over to Mario, snatching my child away from him.
"Whose child is that?" he asked, his eyes mixed with curiosity and confusion.
"My boyfriend," I snapped. His eyes darkened with anger but there was no changing my words.
"You had another man after me?" he growled, scaring Tessa with his voice.
"What?! am I not allowed to entangle with another man? We are divorced and have nothing to do with each other," I blurted out, walking out of the kitchen with my daughter.
Heart racing, sweating trickling down my spine, without thinking, I strode over to the nearest man at my reach and kissed him.
"Why are you not at home? it's past Tessa's bed time," I said, pleading with my eyes for my neighbor, Mark to play along.
He looked like s**t surprised from my kiss but it was the only way I could get Mario away from my daughter.
"I...I...forgot the house key here," he stuttered then hiccupped at the end.
I gave him an apologetic smile before turning back to meet Mario who was burning daggers at Mark.
"You should leave. We have a lot to do," I blurted, maintaining my stern gaze.
Mario took a menacing step towards me, I crept back holding my daughter tightly.
"I will ask you one last time. Whose child is this?" he queried with a terrifying voice.
"And I told you she is my boyfriend's. What is your problem? We have finished discussing about the debt so why are you hellbent on prying into my private life?!" I barked, not backing down to fear.
"You heard her, leave. You are not wanted here," my brother yelled, pushing one of the hefty men that came with Mario.
He tried to grab Cole but I screamed, startling my daughter in the process.
"Lay a hand on him and you will regret being born," I threatened him.
The man backed off on getting Mario's signal. He smirked, holding my eyes with a devilish glint.
"I will take my leave now, Sunshine. We will meet again," Mario said then trudged out with his men.
I let out the heavy breath I had been holding in, while wrapping my trembling arms around daughter protectively.
"Are you alright? I am sorry, I shouldn't have let this happen," My mom stepped forward apologizing.
"No, it is fine. Take Tessa home. I will find you guys behind," I said, handing my daughter to her.
Turning to Mark, I took his hand, looking at him apologetically.
"I am sorry for everything. Please, help me explain to Sarah. I will come by later," I apologized.
"No, it is fine. You had no other choice but to do so. I will explain to Sarah even though she throw a fit. But it is for the best," Mark muttered, brushing the matter aside.
"Sis, you have to leave the town. That freak will bring nothing but trouble," Cole complained with his punched face that slowly turned purple and black.
"Tim, please take care of my brother for me," I requested and he takes Cole away.
Once I am alone, I go back to the kitchen, wash off the dishes, take out the trash and change out of my work clothes.
The night's wind is so cold and eerie. I quickly scan the empty street before taking my leave.
Taking a few steps, I sensed someone's presence behind me. I quicken my steps, my heart racing as I walked down the dark alley.
Heavy steps echoed behind me, fast and menacing. Sweat pooled on my forehead as I began to pant heavily.
I tried to run but two strong hands cover in black glove grabs my neck, muffling my breathe with a piece of cloth.
Slowly, I lost my consciousness falling into my attacker without struggling.
Before I black out, I heard the sound of slamming car doors then the very name I detested. SUNSHINE.
