In the Village of the Demons A mother and a father sit in a hut, seeking the wisdom of a seer about their son. “Your son will be a very strong leader of your kingdom when he comes of age, but I foresee a sickness that will hinder his success,” said the seer. “Oh dear seer, please tell us the solution to this predicament,” pleaded the mother. “Unfortunately, there is no cure for this illness. However, he will have to marry a woman of a special kind to our species—one who is half human and half demon. She is the only one who can heal him from this treacherous illness.” “How will we recognize this girl?” asked the father. “She will bear a mark on her shoulder that is identical to your son’s. Beware: this illness will grow stronger with each year as he ages but will reach its peak when he turns 21.” “Do you mean the half-moon that our son bears on his shoulder?” asked the father. “When they stand together, you will see a full moon form. That is all I can reveal.” “Thank you, seer,” the father said as he left the hut with his sobbing wife. “What will we do, Connor?” asked the distraught mother. “We’ll have to search for the girl. We won’t stop until we find her. We still have 12 years left. The moment we find her, we will immediately marry her off to our son,” said the father with a frown.
