Lexie wake up your going to be late for class, my mother called out to me. This is my Junior year in college. I'm still living at home with my mom and dad while I attend university. My name is Elexsia Mo'ne Bradburn, but all my friends and family call me Lexie. I raise out of bed dreading getting up because of the long night working in my parents restaurant. I don't usually work waiting tables, I'm normally in the office working with my father. My father is Thomas Bradburn and my mother is Mary. I have the most wonderful parents in the world, I maybe a little biased because they are my parents but it true. My father grew up poor with his sister Cynthia, and my grandmother Rosalee. My grandfather died when my father was only twelve years old so I never got to meet him. My grandmother raised my father and aunt buy herself. She worked two jobs to support them. My grandmother was the strongest black woman that I know and I loved her dearly, but she died ten years ago from ovarian cancer. This devastated my family, but my grandmother wouldn't want us to remember her the way she was in her later years. She left us with wonderful memories of her. My father worked so hard to save up the money to open his own business, but my grandmother died before she could see his accomplishments. My father loved my grandmother so much that he named the restaurant after her. Rosalee's is not some fancy restaurant where you can't pronounce the name of the food on the menu. It's place for people to come enjoy good food and spend time with their loved ones. My father wanted his restaurant to have a home feel to it and he succeeded. My mother was raised by her grandparents because her parents died in a car accident when she was just 5 years old. My mother is the greatest person because of them, they loved and protected her until they too passed away. So me and my father and my fathers family are the only family my mom has now. She didn't have any siblings. The recipes we use in our restaurant come from my mothers grandmother, who taught my mother everything she knew about cooking. I never met them but judging how they raised my mother they did a damn fine job. Lexie are you out of that bed yet. I smile knowing if I don't answer she will be coming up to my room to make sure I'm up getting ready. Yes mother I'm getting in the shower I scream. Ok hon your breakfast will be ready when you come down. Thanks mom. I gather all my personal items and the clothes I'm going to wear and head to the bathroom to get ready. I turn on the shower and get it as hot as I can stand it. The hot shower wakes me up. I start to think back on yesterday. After school I get a phone call from my best friend since grade school Laurie Thompson. I answer hello besty, she laughs. She says hi Lexie I hate to do this to you but can you cover my shift tonight Jack is sick today. Jack short for Jackson is Laurie's son and my God son. Laurie got pregnant our junior year in high school by Lorenzo Tate, a sorry excuse for a person. Laurie fancied herself in love with Lorenzo when we where in grade school. But he never paid her any attention. But as soon as we hit high school Laurie's body starts to fill out. By junior year Lorenzo had his eyes on her. Which made Laurie's day. Laurie knows my feelings about Lorenzo, I think he's a dog and a scumbag, but she's in love and I support her. She gives him her virginity and ends up pregnant. At school Laurie tells Lorenzo she is pregnant, he tells her it not his because he used a c****m and they only did it once. She tells him you knew I was a virgin and your the only one I was with. He still denies its his. Laurie's so upset by this that she leaves school without telling me her best friend. So at lunch when I don't see her I call her cell phone and she doesn't answer. I'm worried because she always answers to me. I have fifth period with her so I'll catch up to her then. But when fifth period comes and Laurie is not there I really start to worry. After school I go home thinking she will be there waiting for me but she's not. So I call mom at the restaurant to see if she has heard from her. Rosalee's, hi mom it's me have you heard from Laurie. My mom says no sweetheart I haven't is something wrong. I don't know mom that's what I'm trying to find out. Mom is starting to worry too. Laurie is like a daughter to my parents. I will let you know if I hear something, ok thanks mom. We have less than 2 hours before our shift at the restaurant begins. I hear a car pull in and see it is Laurie, she's getting out of her car. I don't have to open the door because she has a key. I hear her climbing the stairs coming to my room. When she comes in I see her eyes are bloodshot red where she's been crying. I hug her and ask what's wrong. She begins to tell me what happen between her and Lorenzo. I'm going to kill him, but she grabs my arm and say no Lexie I don't want anyone to know just yet. if you confront him everyone will find out and I can't deal with that right now. I say ok for you but I don't like it. She starts to cry again and says Lex what am I going to do I'm scared. How am I going to raise a baby by myself. I say by yourself, no honey you have me and my parents plus I'm going to make a wonderful God mother. She smiles weakly. I say don't worry I will always be here for you. The water in the shower has gotten cool and wakes me out of my day dream. I hurry and bath before the water turns freezing. I get out dry off and get myself ready. After I'm done I head down stairs to the kitchen where my mother and father are both sitting at the table eating and talking. Morning sunshine how did you sleep, my father asks me. I told him as well as can be expected. Mom puts my breakfast infront of me and I start to eat. Mom looks at me and says is there something wrong you have been doing alot of day dreaming lately. I hear the worry in her voice and it makes my dad look up and say what's going on. I say nothing just having a hard time with business math. I'm getting help from a girl at school but it's really frustrating that this is the only class I'm not excelling in. My mother looks at me like that's not it but she doesn't say anything. My mom knows that I will tell her when I'm ready. I know what my mom is referring to. She is talking about last night when I was covering Laurie's shift after everyone was gone and we started our night time clean up, I got distracted by day dreaming and my mother caught me. She says Lexie those tables are not going to clear themselves. I respond yes mother. While day dreaming I remember the first time he walked into the restaurant, he is the most handsome man I have ever seen. His hair is jet black and falls past his shoulders and he has the most beautiful sea blue eyes. He is tall and gorgeous in his expensive clothes and shoes. And the car he drives is a real beauty. Of course I don't know what kind of car I just know between the clothes, shoes and the car I know he's out of my league. His name is Sébastien McNamara, I don't know what he does, I just know that six months ago he started coming to the restaurant at least twice a month. It got to the point where I waited patiently for him to arrive. He doesn't even know I exist. He doesn't know that I watch him every time he comes in, I can't seem to take my eyes off of him. Luckily I don't have to worry about being caught because I work in my father's office and can watch on the hidden cameras throughout the restaurant. Lexie your day dreaming again we are never going to get this finished at the rate your going, my mother snaps me out of the day dream again. I say I'm sorry mother. This is why I am so tired today because we didn't leave the restaurant until after twelve. My cell phone rings and I see it is Laurie calling. I answer hey besty, she laughs and says hello. Lexie I'm sorry to ask again but can you cover my sift again tonight Jack is still sick. I said sure I can, what's wrong with my God son. Did you take him to the doctor. She says yes he has an upper respiratory infection and is taking antibiotics. Take as long as you need I got you. Thank you Lexie she says. No problem what are best friends for. I finish breakfast and leave for school. I got to Westmore University in Oklahoma. Westmore is one of the top ten prestigious schools in American. I'm doing well in all my class with the exception of business math. I hate this class. I arrive to class five minutes late. Mr Morgan the teacher gets mad and says thank you for Joining us Mrs Bradburn. Believe me it's not willingly I respond but he doesn't hear me say it. He say next time don't come in if your going to be late because you disrupt my class when you are late, it's not fair to the other students who get here on time. This is so embarrassing, but I say yes Mr Morgan it won't happen again. After class Stacy Reed comings up to me and asks if I'm alright I tell her yes just tired. Had a long night at the restaurant. Stacy is a senior and is pre law. Stacy is the smartest person I know, which is why she helps me with my business math class. After all my classes are over I get in my car and head home to get ready for Laurie's shift at the restaurant. My thoughts never stray from Sébastien. I have never wanted a man before him. That's why I'm a 25 year old virgin. it's not that I've been saving myself it's just that I have never been interested in anyone until him. And that's never going to happen because he doesn't even know I exist. Sébastien McNamara sat in his office at his desk with a blank expression on his face. I tell him you remember that meeting I had with the Johnsons six months ago. He says yeah I remember what's that got to do with the way you have been acting. Well on my way back to the office I see this girl, Drake she is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. She had long black hair, the most beautiful hazel eyes and a body out of this world. Drake is looking at me like I have lost my mind. But I continue, I couldn't help myself I had to pull over. Have you ever heard of Rosalee's restaurant I ask him. He says no I haven't. Well she goes into this restaurant it's off of fourth and Broadway. He says ok what's that have to do with it. I say we'll I followed her to the restaurant, now he has a stunned expression on his face. He asks she's human. I say yes, Drake says you didn't. No, no it's not like that she doesn't know I watch her. Ok let me get this straight you see a girl and you follow her to a restaurant without her knowing. Well when he put it like that I realize what a creepy move it was but I can't help it for some reason. I have been going back to the restaurant at least two times a month just to see her. But every time I show up there is another waitress there. Drake and I both know this is dangerous territory. Sébastien is the oldest son of the McNamara Coven. We are Vampires. There are covens all over the world and each coven has their own set of rules. There is one rule that all the covens must adhere to and that's to keep our existence from the humans. The McNamara Coven is the largest and strongest Coven in America. Sébastien father Damien is the leader of the Coven along side his mother Lacy. Sébastien has two other siblings the twins Alexander and Alexandra. Sébastien is well over two hundred years and the twins are over one hundred. In our world we have kids but the rule is you can only have one child every hundred years. The McNamara's were blessed to have twins. Drake has a brother and his name is Brandon. They were all raised together because their parents are best friends. Sébastien and Drake were born on the same day, only Sébastien is five mins older. There are rules to follow to keep our secret safe. We are not allowed to feed on humans unless it's a life and death situation. We have our own blood banks. All the movies about Vampires most of them are untrue. We can burn to death in the direct sun. So if you work like Sébastien our businesses have to be equipped to protect us from the sun. To feed off a human is punishable by death in the covens in America. But in other countries they have their own set of rules. Drake asks so when is your next reservation at this restaurant. I look at him in surprise and say tonight at eight. He smiles and says I will be joining you I have to see this for myself. I cringe because I know this is not a good idea. But I also know that when Drake is curious about something he's like a dog with a bone, he won't let go. I sigh fine, he smiles and stands up to leave. Ok I will meet you at seven fifty nine and laughs on his way out the door. Damn this is not good. I'm lost in thought when I hear my phone ring. Sébastien I say. Hello sweetheart how are you my mother says. I'm fine mom how are you. I'm good just wondering if you are coming to dinner tonight. I can't tonight mom I have a prior engagement. When are you going to come see your mother you know I miss you. Mom you just seen me this past weekend. I know but a mother worries about her children. I will try and Come this weekend some time, this makes my mother happy. Ok son I'll see you then I love you, love you to mom. Well it's time for me to finish for today so I can make it to the restaurant before Drake I can't have him messing things up for me. I'm talking like it is a good thing that I'm obsessing over a human. Vampires do have mates and it's not uncommon for a mate to be human. But if your mate is human they have to be turned within a year or they will be mind swiped and you can no long go around them. Because a mind swipe only last if the person is no longer around to remember. If your human rejected you, you may not get another mate for centuries. That's why most Vampires don't want a human mate. It is now seven thirty and I leave my office and make my way to the elevator. Everyone in my building are Vampires. There are humans who know about us and that work for us. I get in the elevator and hit the basement floor where my car is parked. I get in my car and on my way to the restaurant. I hope I make it there before Drake does, I have no idea what he will do. The phone rings and Lexie notices that it's her mother. Hello mother I say. She says hi back. Lexie can you grab my blue bag out of the closet please. Yes I can mother I'm on my way home now to get ready I'll see you in a few. Ok sweetheart she says. I make it home and get ready for work. I get in my car and head to the restaurant. I pull into my parking spot and head into the restaurant. I go to my dad's office, hi dad. He looks up from the papers he's going over. Hey cup cake how was school. I was late and the teach scolded me for it. Oh honey I'm sorry. It's not your fault dad. I'm going to the kitchen to give mom her bag and I'm go to get to work, love you dad. love you to baby girl, it's a busy night tonight. Luckily I don't have class tomorrow. I make my way to the kitchen to give my mom her bag. She's busy tonight so I just put the bag next to her purse and slip back out to start my shift. I'm not in the office tonight since Laurie can't come in, I'll be working the floor. It's alright because I can make really good tips. I put my name tag on and start my shift. It's Friday and we are really busy, its packed in here today. I'm kind of excited because I know the tips will be good today. I start with my first table. As I turn around to take my order to the kitchen in walks the man of my dreams, the man I can't seem to keep my eyes off of. Damn how am I supposed to do my job when he is here, why of all days does this have to happen to me. I hurry and take my order to the kitchen and try my best not to turn around and stare. Sébastien walks into the restaurant and the first person his eyes see is the beauty he has been dreaming about . She is even more beautiful than he thought. He notice her look at him then hurry to the kitchen. He smiles, because he thought he saw some interest in her eyes before she disappeared into the kitchen. I make my way over to the table noticing Drake sitting in my normal spot when I come. So you beat me here I see. He laughs you really thought I would miss this you are sadly mistaken. I roll my eyes at him. He looks at me seriously and says I'm assuming that beautiful black girl I seen is the one you have been stocking. Be quiet before someone hears you and gets the wrong impression. Lexie is in the kitchen pacing back and forth trying to get the courage to go back out there and do her job. But dammit he's in my section and I have to serve him. How am I going to pull this off without showing him I'm obsessed with him. My mother comes up to me and asks is everything okay. I say yes I was just distracted again. I had to lie I can't tell my mother that I have been obsessing over a guy no matter how gorgeous he is. I say sorry and head back out to take my orders. I try to keep my focus on my job but I have the strangest feeling someone is staring at me. I took my next order and turned to take it to the kitchen when I look up to see the most beautiful eyes staring at me. I noticed that he's not alone today. Man their gene pool is seriously strong because both of them look like they are sculptured by God. They should not be this damn hot. I shake my head to clean my thoughts and hurry back to place my order. When I come back out it's time to take the order of the two handsome men sitting at the table I am dreading going to. I walk up to the table and say hello my name is Elexsia I will be you waitress this evening. Would you like a menu or do you know what you want to order. The new guy says he knows what he wants and orders a steak rare with steak fries and fried okra. I asked would you like a drink, he says yeah bring me a beer. And for you sir. I look up again to see my obsession staring at me again. He says I'll have the same. I nod and say if that's all I will place your orders. I will be back with your drinks. I turn and leave my heart feels like it's beating out of my chest. I returned to the kitchen with the orders. Sébastien can't keep his eyes off of her. His thoughts is I have to have her. Drake interrupt his thoughts by saying looks like your not the only one who feels that way. I snap out of it and say what. Man can't you see, didn't you hear her heartbeat. I said no I think I was In a trance. Every time I I see her or think of her my mind wonders. What's going on with me Drake. Drake looks at me and says I don't know it's weird I've never see this sort of reaction for out kind. Do you think she is your mate he asks. I look at him and say I don't know I've never experienced this before. I need to talk to dad I'm going home tomorrow for dinner anyway. I think I'll join you. Because I don't want this to happen to me and not know what it is. It's best to be prepared. Lexie grabs the drinks to take back to the table for they guys. She walks back up to the table and hand them their drinks. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you. I'll bring your food right out. I smile and Mr gorgeous smiles back and I swear I feel light headed even his smile makes me want him even more. I turn to leave to check on my other tables. Well one thing is for sure she wants you mate. Can't you smell it, Sébastien looks at him and says why is it you can see and smell what I can't, that is so weird. Damn why didn't we pay more attention about mates. I really need to talk to my father. Lexie makes her way back to the kitchen to pick up orders for her tables. She notices that the steaks are ready so she heads back to the table with the orders. They both look at me with a strange look on their faces. I smile and say here is your dinner gentleman please enjoy your food. And let me know if there is anything else I can do for you. I walk away before either can respond. I check on all my customers refilling drinks and any other requests they have. I look at the table with the two most beautiful men I have ever seen and notice that his eyes are on me. What was that I thought to myself. Why is he staring at me. I know that is not interest in his eyes. I know he is way, way out of my league. He probably dates only models. He could be a model himself. I notice that they have finished their meal and I go over to see of them is anything else I can do for them. They both look up and smile. I smile back and ask is there anything else I can get for you. The one lifts his hands to me and says Drake nice to meet you Elexsia. I smile and say nice to meet you too, you can call me Lexie. I look over and Mr gorgeous is staring again when he lifts his hand and says I'm Sébastien. I say hello nice to meet you both. How did you enjoy your meal. It was wonderful Drake says. I never knew about this place until Bastien tells me. I will most definitely be back. I smile I'm so glad to hear that, I will let the cook know. Thanks for coming and I hope you come back again. I turn to leave , I am so proud because everyone loves my mother's cooking. That's why the restaurant does so well. As I make my way back to the kitchen to return dishes from the tables I cleared, my thoughts run away from me again. Did I imagine the vibes I was getting from Sébastien. It could not be he is interested in me, I know that I am so far out of his league. Hello darling how is everything out there, my mother asks me. It's going really good we even have new customers. Oh your dad will be glad to hear that. I think he will be very glad to hear that people are telling others about this place. We may need to think of expanding before long my mother says. This place will need more room if we keep getting new customers. I think what we need to do is take your car and go to my parents house so we can find out more about this mating bond. I didn't think I would find my mate this soon Sébastien tells Drake. I think it's rare to find your mate this soon, but we'll find out more information from your parents. Now Drake you and me both know that none of these people in here are paying us any attention. Well, are you trying to wait for your girl to come back. No, I really want to make it to mom and dad's before its too late, I don't want to leave my car here for too long. We make our way to the receptionist and pay for our food. We leave the restaurant and head to Drake Suv. I'm more a slick ride type of guy, but Drake likes his big toys. I don't see why you had to drive this monstrosity. Don't you dare rag on my car man, this is a classic. Classic, where the hell did you get that from. This is not old enough to be a classic. Drake drives a slick black Escalade, it has all the bells and whistles. Why he wanted to get such a monster of a car I have no idea. Calling this car a classics you should be ashamed of your self. Man stop hating on my ride. You don't hear me hating on that toy car you drive do you. Did you just call my car a toy? My car is what you would call sophisticated. He starts to laugh, you must be out of your mind if you think that toy is sophisticated. Keep calling my car a toy, because this beast you call a ride is to bulky and you know it. The bigger the better he says. And who might I ask told you that pack of lies. You know if you wasn't my best friend since the cradle, I'm gonna let that slide, but be warned stop raging on my ride man. That door swing both ways, you don't rag on my car and I won't rag on your ride. Truce, he says, so I agree this time. I hope it's not too late to show up at your parents house. Please you and I both know that my parents love to entertain.
