We all froze when Darius appeared in the doorway. The silence that followed was deafening. He did not say anything. He simply stood there, staring at both of us with an unreadable expression.
Fear crept up my spine. I didn't know what he was going to think about this mess. He was still lenient about my carelessness and always leaving the post and now I'd the guts to invite a guard, and not only that mess up his quarters.
I was in for it. I just hope he doesn't get mad.
"I am sorry about the mess," I said immediately, scrambling to my feet. "Pete just returned from the borders, and we missed each other. We got carried away with catching up after so long apart."
