3 | Human Nature

NADIA'S POV

"Seriously, what do you do for a living exactly?" I asked the mysterious devil.

"What I do for a living? That's an interesting question. No one ever asked me that after they knew I'm a devil." She suddenly stopped walking and observe the surrounding area of the place I used to work at.

"This is where you used to work? It's horrible! Even the underworld has a better restaurant than this dump." She was being loud and it causes some of the people around us looking at her. "Shhh! You shouldn't say stuff like that out loud." She actually glared at me.

"The servant shushing the master? That's new." She was crossing her hands in front of me while looking down. I think I just made a huge mistake. "I'm sorry." I look down on my feet. I just can't look at her eyes. "I'm just joking. Lift your head, my servant. Show me the way inside this atrocious restaurant."

I did lift my head up and she was smiling, genuinely. I nodded and lead her inside. The smell of the over grease food invaded my nostril. I can't believe it that just a week ago, I used to smell this every single day.

"Yuck. This restaurant should be close down." Once again she's speaking her mind out loud.

"ORDER UP!" I froze when I came face to face with my former manager.

"Roman?! Where were you! You know how hard it is to find your replacement! Get your apron on and start cleaning the dirty dishes!" I'm so used to him yelling at me that I took it as part of my job description.

"Hey hey, you don't have the right to speak to her like that. She's not working at this dump anymore." Asura decided to open her mouth.

"Well excuse you, anyone who wants to quit need at least 2 weeks notice. That's the procedure." My manager replied.

"2 weeks notice? What is this? Wall Street?." Asura looked around the restaurant. "I wonder why you all decided to eat here. The food in the Soup Kitchen is better than this shit." The manager started to panic.

"Who the f**k is this b***h, Roman! Chase her out!" The manager yelled.

"You should know and you're killing this person slowly by giving them food flooded in oil." Is she some kind of healthy eating devil or something?!

"That's it! GET OUT!" The manager was about to touch her when my body automatically moved on its own and grabbed my former manager's arm.

Asura clapped her hands and everyone around us froze in time.

"You may release his arm. I think you made quite an injury on him. You just broke his arm." Asura chuckled and walked around the restaurant. "So this is where you work? Hmmm.. your manager needs to die. This world will be in a better place without humans like him."

She turned around and walked towards me.

"You'll have a better future working for me in my household." I nodded. I don't have any choice after all. "I just need to take my stuff out from my locker." She let me go and I went to my locker.

When I walked out of the locker room I noticed she's messing with my manager's belt.

"Lady Asura, What are you doing?" I asked when I noticed she's not stopping whatever she's doing. "Teaching him a lesson he won't forget. Humans like him should be punished. Stand beside me." I did and she clapped her hands.

Everything went back to normal and what happened right in front of me was the turning point in my manager's life.

Asura cleared her throat before she ...

"AHHHHHHH HELP! HE'S TRYING TO RAPE ME!!" I was confused and she pretended to be helpless. A few guys grabbed the manager and dragged him out of the restaurant with his pants dropping.

"That should get him in trouble for some time." Asura chuckled. "Let's go to your home next." She smiled. I didn't know what to say and lead her out of the restaurant. "Why don't we just use the transportation portal?" She smiled again and open her arms.

A portal appeared beneath her feet and she invited me to stand next to her.

"Hold on." She said before the world I'm seeing at disappeared.

I don't know what happened but when I opened my eyes again I'm inside my small apartment. Asura was sitting on my couch, crossing her legs. "Comfy. I like it." Somehow I think she's just saying that.

"Who's this?" She was showing me a picture frame. "Oh. My parents." That word sound so foreign for me. "Your parents? You still kept their photo all this time?" I shrugged. "I can't help it but miss them sometime." Asura placed the photo down.

"Well, I too miss my own parents from time to time. They always force me to go home at least once every year. My kids always looking forward for every visit every year. They tend to spoil them too much."

I still can't believe she gives birth to 12 kids. I mean doesn't she feel enough is enough to go through the pain of childbirth?

"How do you do it? 12 kids.. just wow." She hummed. "The feeling of carrying a child inside of me? It's amazing. The birth is long but once they waltz out of you, tearing your v****a up, it's worth it. Even though sometimes they're hard to control, it's still worth it."

Tearing her .... oh wow. I can even feel the pain.

She chuckled. "Having them makes my immortality life worth every time. You will never get lonely and your constantly worried about them when there's nothing to worry about."

She smiled. "Since most of my children are boys, Caia has it rough. Her brothers tend to be overly protective. Even a strong male devil isn't that fond of dating my daughter knowing her brother will kill him if he screws up." I feel sorry for Caia now.

"How many siblings do you have?" She asked.

"4 older siblings, 1 little sister. I was the fifth child." I begin to pack my stuff inside a bag. Since I don't have much, it's easy for me to pack it.

"They all hate you for being yourself? Why does human tend to be underdeveloped? Why do they have a pea size brain, to begin with? Why does God even gave them a heart?" Huh? "God what?" I walked out of my room with my bag.

"A heart is essential in my world. With it, we can control someone. That's what I did to you. I took your heart away, literally." I immediately touched my chest. "You can feel it's beating, but it's not there. What you feel now just merely a phantom heart. I have your heart, you can count on me to keep it safe."

"Do you know God?" She nodded. "I've in the same room with it once. It never showed its face but I can feel it's power. It's overwhelming and the angels are annoyingly rude to our kind." Asura stood up. "Angels? It exists?" Asura nodded.

"Of course. Fallen angel as well but those people really trying hard to impress God just so the merciful God would let them get a taste of the divine protection once again. Now that kind of angels is a menace. They tend to kill our kind mercilessly." Asura scoffed.

"They thought by killing our kind, God will forgive their soul and let them enter heaven again. They have the whole concept wrong. Once you've been banished from heaven, it's sayonara for you." She laughed.

She went to the windows and looked at the streets below.

"Fallen angels are in the same class as human but the human doesn't have a power like they do. Some human just relies on miracle and hoping God helped them as if their life depends on it. Same like fallen angels. They tried really hard to get on the God's good side. And they never care who they have to kill to do so."

Asura seems like she hates that fallen angel to the core. "Are you done?" She question. "Yes." She opens her arms again and the same transportation portal appeared beneath her feet. "Let's go home." I stood beside her and went through the same thing all over again.

When I opened my eyes, we're back inside her chamber in the presidential suite.

"How many servants do you have?" I asked when we arrived. "Servants? Only you. There's no one else. There's nobody could withstand my overwhelming power like you did. I'm still curious how was it possible for you to do so. Your not even showing any sign of retaliation." She hummed.

"Make yourself presentable. I will show you what I do for a living." She smiled and waited for me to be done.

"Where are we?" I asked when we arrived in front of a huge tower.

"This is the human world correct?" I added. "Yes. This is a human world. And if you read the sign not far from where we stand, this tower belongs to me." I always wonder how tall tower like this being useful in the first place.

I just realized that this is the tallest skyscraper in this city!

"Lady Demonix, welcome back." A group of man in suits greeted us.

"Are these people ...." I just couldn't make sure of it. "Devils. Every single one of them. Our clients, visitor, they're humans. Except for that woman. She's a fallen angel who works for me." She was pointing at the receptionist.

"I thought Fallen Angels is an enemy."

"Not when they decide to change side. Like I said, they work for me. I have several fields of business I venture on. Here's one for instance." She was leading me to the directory sign.

"Demonix Records. Demonix Construction and real estate. Demonix memorial hospital where I created a hospital for devils and human. I also have a couple of casinos and also venture myself in the business of hotelier throughout the world. Both the human and the underworld."

She pointed at one of the floor plans.

"I also created a law firm for devils if they ever in trouble with the humans. There's a lot of case where the devils accidentally killed a human. But then again, we're devils. It's our nature to kill human that's weaker than us. Hell, humans even weaker than animals." She chuckled.

How did she manage to handle every single thing while having her kids? She's a mother of 12!

"Follow me. We're going to my office." I did as told and she leads me towards an elevator.

"This is a private elevator of mine. Only my kids and I have permission to use them. With this, we can go to every floor that you desire. It's different than the commercial elevator that everyone uses." Asura explained while the elevator goes up.

"Why is that?" I asked.

"The forbidden floor store some of the most valuable treasure I collected. Some of them are a curse, haunted and even consider taboo to be displayed in public. It will cause great harm to anyone who decided to touch them. You're forbidden to go to level 50 without my presence. Remember that." She smiled and on cue, the elevator door opened as well.

Surprisingly this floor is empty.

No maids nor butler around at all. "This is my office. No one allowed to enter this floor without my permission. If a client needs to meet me, I'll let them use the floor below us. This is a restricted area." We're actually on the very top of the tower.

Since the wall was made from glass, I can see the whole city from this place. It's beautiful. "Why am I allowed to be here?" I asked. "I'm not sure myself." She chuckled.

"The spell I placed on this floor should forbid you from entering but somehow it let you in. Even though you have my blood in your veins, that shouldn't be enough to let you in because you didn't come out from me. You were created. Mysterious indeed." Seriously? Can I do that? Wow.

"You may sit wherever you want. I have to finish my work for today." She said before sitting on her chair behind a file filling table.

This is the first time I have nothing to do except waiting for my master to finish her work.

Why don't I feel scared or mad at her for changing me to her kind? Was that reaction normal or is it just for me? Why didn't I feel the need to be rebellious against her like the rest of her servants before? Is there something wrong with me?

All those questions have been playing in my mind on the loop. I stood up from the love seat and went to windows where I could see the whole city view. I can't believe I'm actually here, inside the tallest tower in the city. This place, I always wanted to be in this place even for a minute when I was a human.

Every time I walked past this tower, I always feel the jealousy washed over me, watching these successful people feeling happy about their achievement. Now that I'm here, I can't believe I'm a devil to add to that fantasy.

"Asura speaking." I turned to Asura answering her phone. "Send them up." She continued to do her job. "My sons. They're on their way here." She announced.

Two of her 12 kids huh. The only one I know was Caia. She's the only female as well.

I continued to look out the window.

Suddenly something came to my mind. "Asura, can you fly?" She turned her head to face me. "Did you call me by my first name?" Oh s**t! Did I do something wrong? Of course, I did! She's my master and I just called her by name!

"You really did huh? And yet you're still standing and breathing. No pain?" I slowly shook my head no. "Yes, I can fly. Anyway, I have a task for you and you shall obey me, do you understand me?" I nodded. Just in time, our attention was on the door when Asura's sons walked in.

"Great. Your both here. Stand still while Nadia stabs you both with her hands." Their reaction was priceless. Say what now? I should do what?!

"I should do what?" I asked again.

"Stab them both. That's my order." Her sons were shocked. "But mother ..." Asura glared. "Stab them, Nadia, that's an order!" I don't want to upset my master. I sighed and preparing my hands.

The real question now, how should I stab them with my hands? Is that even possible?

The boys were horrified. "Mother!" Asura glared again. "DO IT NOW NADIA!" Asura voices echo in my ears.

That yell made my inner demon awakened and I can feel such an overwhelming power emerging from my body. When I try to breath out, a growl came out from my mouth.

I'm not sure how but I could see my nails getting a lot longer than usual. When I looked up at the boys, all I see was two hideous looking man, sacred to his bones. "Stab them!" Asura ordered and this time I followed what she told me.

When I lunged myself, one of them avoided me while the other was too slow to avoid my hands. I grabbed his neck and turned my attention to the other guy. He looks like he's trying to find a way out. Doesn't he know the door just right over there?

I'm not sure how but I suddenly appeared in front of him and grabbed his neck as well. "Kill them, Nadia." I was having a second thought. Why did she order me to kill her own son? "Kill them! They're not my son!" I was shocked.

"They told me they're going to the underworld for some time because their work calling for them. These two clearly imposters, trying to lure me out. How dare you use my son's identity! You even manage to foul my spirit guardian to let you in! Finish them off Nadia!"

I formed a smirk on my face and lick my lips.

"With pleasure." I slammed them both on the floor and use my hands to stab them on the chest. I grabbed their heart and yanked it out forcefully. I watched as life fade away from their eyes. This adrenaline rush of killing some creature is something I want to feel again and again.

It's amazing!

"Hmm." She examined the heart on my hands.

"Grade E devil heart. They're the lowest of the low. How did they manage to ... Oh." She kneels and took a reddish stone that fell on the floor near the corpses.

"This explained it all. This is called a fire stone. It can make the wearer be somebody else. I was about to be foul as well but they got the facts wrong about my son's whereabouts." She chuckled.

"This is one of the many taboo things I told you earlier. And like I said before, anyone who possessed taboo things shall die in the end. So they did." She actually smiled! Asura touched their forehead and a black seal appeared on their skin.

"Begone to the deepest part of the underworld. You shall be my beast's lunch." A transportation portal appeared beneath the corpses and it disappeared just like that.

She turned her attention to me. "Try to eat that heart. It's not a grade A or B but I'm sure it could stop your stomach from rumbling."

She seriously wants me to eat this raw heart?! Well, they do look delicious ... and ... scrumptious... How low did I just go? Did I just called this raw heart delicious and scrumptious?!

"Try it. Trust me. You'll feel good in no time." Is that an order too?

"That's an order. A devil needs to eat sometime too." She said with a smile. I was reluctant but its an order from my master.

"Here goes nothing..."
