I ARRIVED home at almost midnight. The living room was almost dark except some small light rays from the open kitchen, above the fridge. I slumped my shoulders and head to the fridge for some water.
Sipping in my plain water, my mind wandered to the dinner tonight. I knew it’s supposed to be a welcoming dinner since this was his first day here after he was gone missing almost three years ago. But who was I to deny all of the anger that I had been kept for that long period of time.
Every time my mind wandered to those moments that once belong to us, I cannot help myself for blaming, I don’t know, no one in particular. Maybe me? or maybe him? Or maybe the wrong timing?
Derek John Valentino, he was a notorious bad boy back during our day in high school. I was no one. An ordinary girl befriend with another plain girl, Daniella Anne, in which he always bullied. But that was another story.
I was a new girl for that year, our final year in high school. I hate to admit, but I was well loaded before then. I was the one they say to be the new queen bee of the school. Queen bee my ass. Huh.
Here came Nick, Nicholas to be exact. Although he seems to be hitting on me at that time, but he was actually not. He was just trying to get one person attention. To make her jealous, and I was being me and also her best friend, just played along. The play I was in actually caught me in love with Derek. The school bad boy, Nick best friend.
I released a heavy breath before finishing my drinks and put the glass into the sink. I made a mental note to wash it later in the morning. But I bet, Tessa will be doing it first thing tomorrow.
Speaking of Tessa, I should go up and check on my baby. Little Emily.
I had read her texts right before the dinner saying that Emily was quite a mood today, and refused to touch anything and ate almost nothing. I wondered what had made her behavior changed suddenly. Emily never makes a scene. Ever since she knew how to walk, and played alone, she never even made a fuss and messed around, she was a short form of a good girl.
After freshen up and wore my pajamas, I headed to my daughter's room. She was sleeping soundly when I entered the room and that made me smile at those little cute cheeks she has.
"Good night, princess." I whispered and kissed her forehead lightly. She stirred a little and slowly opened her eyes.
"Shhhush, little girl, it is still midnight, go back to sleep." I said soothing her back when she slowly got up from her sleep and sit.
"Mommy, where is daddy?" she asked almost immediately just when her eyes were open fully. I froze on my feet, blinking a few times before I opened my mouth.
"Daddy? Oh, your papa was studying somewhere oversea; he will be back very soon...." I said but it was quickly cut off by her whining.
"No papa, daddy." she said while creeping down into her crib and pulled out something from underneath her small pillow. I raised my eyebrows when I saw the small frame in her hands.
She slowly brought that frame in front of me, right before my eyes that for sure grew wider at the view.
"Em, where did you get this?" I asked her although I knew that frame belongs in my bedroom. I looked into her eyes that were glistening with tears. She probably afraid that I will scold her for being naughty and stole the frame from my room. I quickly hold her body into mine.
"Is that daddy?" I heard this almost two years old baby muffled on my chest those three words while my own tears started to fall down my cheeks.
Oh my baby, she spoke more than three words already and I don’t know about it.
I nodded slowly, looking at the picture frame of me and Derek, kissing passionately in one of the photo booth during our prom night, just after he asked me to be his girl.
Yes, I was his girlfriend.
She looked at the frame too and looked up at me blinking her beautiful grey orbs, the one she inherited from her daddy.
"Mommy so beautiful." she said wiping my wet cheeks with her small hands. I replied by kissing her plump cheeks and smiled while my eyes darted back to the picture.
Yeah, I thought I was beautiful that night. My dress was not really a sexy one. It was red lace dress with long sleeves and was a mermaid cut. My blonde hair was naturally curled and let loose to my side. And he on the other hand, was already handsome with his sleek casual suit and red tie. Matching with mine.
"My daddy?" the little girl asked me again this time with a hopeful eyes looking directly into mine
I nodded again confirming her statement and smile slowly.
"Yes, sweetheart. He is your daddy." I answered her helplessly.
'Sooner or later you will find out too, mommy just hope this is not too early.'
I spoke my mind in this silent night where I never knew that our life was finally at its turning point.
