63 Alice led the silver sedan along the highway into town. She waited and waited, then stepped hard on the gas, pulling away from the tailing car. She braked hard and swung a hard right into the motel lot, tires squealing and truck rolling to the left. She flew across the front lot and around back, where she screeched to a stop. She grabbed the knife and jacked the driver's door open with an elbow. She bailed out of the Explorer with the engine still running. After sprinting to the nearest corner of the motel, she peered around the wall. She saw the silver sedan parked on the far side of the street, across from the motel, outside McNulty's Bar.
