Chapter 4This time Seth’s smile feels more natural. They get into a light discussion about hospital food. Seth is explaining why salt is such a vital spice and Connor is listening, amused but not agreeing. Slowly, Seth starts to relax and tries to keep to the things that still make sense: Connor’s there and they are talking.
“Sure, you can eat salt whenever you want, you can afford to be indifferent,” Seth is saying. “But I—”
Somebody knocks on the door. They both look towards it and Connor gets between the bed and the door. Everybody has so far worked after the ‘knock to warn and then go in’ principle, but whoever this is, opts to wait for an answer.
“Come in,” Seth calls.
