BACK FROM THE DEAD

The rest of the school day was much better than the start of it, thought Cordelia. Because when she texted to the number that was written on the note tucked in her book, it turned out - as expected- that the number was Kayden`s. They texted all throughout her classes and Cordi found out that they had a lot in common and that she really liked talking to him. Kay told her that he had some spell 'recipe' that he would like to try, but that he needed her help with practicing it. So they decided to meet on the crossroads - the place where it had to be preformed - in the dead of the night and to perform it. After the school Cordelia had to return the book to the library, where her aunt works. "Hi Auntie Aradia! How are you?" asked Cordi when she stepped inside the library. Before she even realized that her aunt was not in sight. "And where are you?" "I am in the back!" shouted back her aunt, so Cordelia put the book on the table and went to see what her aunt was doing in there. "What are you doing?" asked Cordi when she saw her aunt mixing some weird ingredients into some foul smelling mass.  "Oh, it`s you Cordelia, darling. I thought that Mrs. Black came for her potion. So...obviously I am making a potion for her backpain." Many people thought her weird for making potions, but her niece liked her more for that. Because that`s the thing they had in common, both of them liked witchcraft and Aunt Aradia was skillful enough to even practice it.  "What are you doing here? Do you want to stay longer and talk?" "I came to return the book, I borrowed last time," said Cordelia looking at the clock to determine how long she could stay and chat, before having to go to the crossroad to meet with Kay. "I can`t stay Auntie, I have to meet with a friend." "Oh, sure. Which one of your friends is it?" asked old aunt Aradia, who knew all her friends and loved them as if they were all her nieces.  "Oh, it`s none of them. I just met him today. His name is Kayden and he also loves witchcraft as much as I do. See you later, Auntie!" said Cordelia making her way toward the door so she could stop at home and change her clothes to make a good impression on Kay - even though he was only a friend.  "That name sounds familiar," mumbled Aradia as the door closed behind Cordi.                                                                                  *   *   *   Cordelia walked toward the meeting place, where Kay already stood waiting for her. He stood facing the other way around, so she could look at him more than the first time they met. The fire from the torches, that were lit probably by him, emanated an orange glow in which he was bathed in. It made him look like from another world, his black hair were blacker and his dark coat seemed darker, which made him look cruel and frightening. She told herself that that was nothing, just the play of the light. Cordelia decided that she wanted perform that spell and that it was foolish to be afraid of a friend - even though she made him only that day. He didn`t see her yet, so she righted her clothes on her person and looked down at herself. She had put on long wine red dress, that she took from her mother`s wardrobe, and her stylish high heeled boots, on top of everything she put on her grandmother`s dark green cloak. In that moment she felt confident and mighty as if she could do anything. She came closer toward where Kayden was standing, and when he finally saw her, Cordelia`s breath caught by the intensity of his stare.  "You look amazing," said Kay without breath, as he looked at her from toes to her head adorned with her beautiful dark curls. Her face heated and she was glad for the lack of the light, because she was pretty sure she looked like a beetroot.  "Okay, so can we start?" asked Cordi trying to pass this embarrassing moment. "Yeah, sure." said Kayden, while trying to master his throaty voice and his lingering eyes on her curves. "So, only a girl can do this spell, that`s why you are here. I will tell you what you have to do and say. Okay?"  "Yeah. I am ready for this!" said Cordi trying to master bravery, but some slight trembling got in her voice. So it absolutely didn`t sound convincing. "What should I do?" Kay looked around them and obviously tried to remember something. After some time he said: "Stand here facing me." When Cordelia stood where he had shown her and faced him, he gave her a knife - very sharp old-looking knife. She was looking at it dumbstruck so he explained, that she will have to cut herself for the spell to work. Cordelia reluctantly took the knife with a trembling fingers. "What spell are we going to do? Is it some kind of black magic?" asked Cordi with quivering voice. Her unconsciousness trying to find some reason why not to do this, but her conscious self didn`t want to back down from a dare, which she was waiting her whole life for. "No, this is blood magic. It is totally different. This spell just needs a little bit of the performer`s blood, which is yours. Nothing wrong or bad is going to happen, it is just to make you stronger as you have never performed any spell before," said Kay while making a pentagram around her without even looking at the paper, where the spell was written. "Okay, everything is prepared. After you will cut yourself - nothing big, just a few drops of blood will be enough - then you will repeat the words of the spell after me. Understand?" said Kay excitedly. "Okay," said Cordi resignedly, her enthusiasm long gone. Cordelia tries to cut herself across the palm with the ancient knife, it only hurt like hell but no blood came from the wound. She tried again harder and cried out in pain, two drops of blood fell onto the ground from the shallow cut. When the blood touched the ground beneath her, everything around her started to vibrate. Kay shouted something, but she couldn`t hear him properly, because the wind was roaring around me and after some time she couldn`t even see anything past the barrier of the pentagram. Suddenly there was some paper before her with some words in different language, probably Latin, thought Cordelia. On the bottom of the page was written: Read aloud three times.  "Okay, why not? It is absolutely not weird," murmured Cordelia to herself starting to be agitated. "Spiritus eius reversus veni in corpus meum a mortuis. Spiritus eius reversus veni in corpus meum a mortuis. Spiritus eius reversus veni in corpus meum a mortuis."  The wind was only increasing with every word Cordi said. By the end of her speech she couldn`t talk anymore for her breath was knocked out of her. There was a hurricane inside the pentagram now and it knocked her down onto the ground. Cordelia could see white spots blurring her vision and felt her legs and arms weighting her down. She couldn`t fight anymore against the sleep that tried to overcome her, so she passed out and everything went quiet in an instant. When Kayden saw her laying there on the ground without movement, he started to run toward her cursing himself for killing the only girl, who could bring back his master. He was so certain that this would be the one, but apparently he was again mistaken.  "Cordelia! Cordelia! Wake up!" shouted Kay into her ear and shook her so violently that her teeth were chattering from the impact. Her eyelids fluttered open right away and as she speedily sit up, she crushed into Kay, who was leaning over her. They heads bumping together fiercely, Kayden swore for some time after that and rubbed his aching head where a bump was forming.   "Kayden? Is it you? Why are you calling me Cordelia?" she asked, blinking up at him. "Yes, my lady, it is me," said Kay when he realized that the spell worked and that Rowena was finally back.
