When one door closes...

Dawn Daniels It was almost midday by the time we had checked the truck to ensure that it was in good shape for the journey and Darius confirmed the location on my Google maps and also gave me a map, just in case there was a network issue. He walked with me to the truck, then taking off a neckpiece I'd always seen him wear, he gave it to me and said; “Give this back to me when next we see, okay?” Holding back tears, I hugged him and promised to call to let him know the moment I was settled into the new pack. Holding on to the neckpiece Darius gave me, I got into the truck feeling a lot more confident and hopeful. I didn’t leave the pack using the entrance gate because finding where Darius had directed me to would be easier going through the back gate, so I drove through the back gate into the empty road which led me away from the pack. I hummed to the music playing on the radio and began to think of my destination and how I was going to prove myself useful to the new pack. After thinking and not coming up with any ideas, I just decided that I was going to figure that out when the time came, but first I had to get to the pack safely. Stopping by the first store, I saw I got a few toiletries, a few packed meals, snacks, and drinks, so I wouldn’t have to make any more stops. Darius said that if I had left earlier in the day I would have been able to make it to the pack by evening, but if I left by this time, I would definitely have to spend the night on the way. Driving into the road I sighed, bracing myself for the journey ahead. ****** Kieran Arnell “I need a favor.” The old man never needed anything, so getting this text from him made me call him. “I knew you would call.” “I’m sure you did. What’s up?” “There’s a girl, her name is Dawn. She’s on her way to the rogue lands, she’s coming to see you.” “Why? And how do I know she’s from you?” “She was banished from this pack. She has long platinum hair, you shouldn’t miss that.” “OH wow.” Knowing the alpha of the pack, I was pretty sure the girl was banished wrongly, after a short pause I added “Well, I’m sure she hates his guts and you know that any enemy of Simons is a friend of mine.” “I know. Thank you, Kieran.” “Anytime, old man.” Darius had vouched for her, and there was no way I could turn down a request from him. And really, what could go wrong? ****** “Remember that we are expecting a girl tomorrow,” I told Joe, my beta, as we walked out of my living area into the broad balcony. “How can I forget that we are expecting a white-haired female werewolf?! The moment she gets to the gate, I will be there to welcome her,” Joe replied. “That will be great because I don’t know how she is and I don’t want her scared or feeling uncomfortable.” “Yeah, I understand that.” He walked towards where he had parked his bike in my garage. “Aren’t you going with the truck today?” Joe asked. “I will be going without it today. It’s been a minute since I ran in my wolf form and these days I have been feeling a bit tense, so I’ll scout the area in wolf form, then just run around for a bit. Maybe that will help.” I replied as we both exited the building. “And it’s nothing Cara can’t help you with?” “Cara has become a thorn in the flesh, so I would rather stay away from her” “And I wonder how you, someone with such sight and power, just realized." “See you when I get back tomorrow, Joe,” I said, and was out before he could say a word. Rude. He mind-linked to me. Shifting into wolf form, I howled once and started my mind-easing run. ****** Dawn Daniels It was getting dark, I thought, and looking at the dashboard I noticed the time. It was 6:53 pm. I continued driving along the almost empty road. I cannot believe I am going to the rogue lands and I have no idea of what to expect when I get there, but it was better to try plus Darius had told me to go there and he would never put me in any situation that would cause me harm. Sighing, I thought of Darius and felt alone. I already miss him. Reducing my speed, I kept driving, this time looking out for somewhere I could camouflage the truck and camp/sleep till daybreak. The search for a suitable place took 10-15 minutes as I saw a wide field bordered by giant trees right along my route. “Perfect!” I said out loud as I parked the truck under two giant trees, coming down from the car, I took steps back from it to see how good the camouflage was. Perfect again, I thought, then going back into the car, I winded down the windows, locked the car, sat down in the back seat, and said a prayer of protection to the moon goddess as I quietly ate two sandwiches I had gotten earlier. After eating, I thought of calling Darius but there was no network, so I just lay down in the back seat thinking of how my life had changed in such a short moment and slowly I let sleep envelop me. ****** Where am I? The woman standing a few feet in front of me looked like my mother but I knew she wasn’t my mother because my mother was a brunette, but this woman had flowing white hair just like mine. She looked so beautiful. I noticed we were standing in a field that looked familiar. Then she said something I could not make out and she smiled at me. I smiled back as if I understood her. She said something again and then a mighty white wolf emerged from behind her, shyly looking up at me with identical green eyes. That’s my wolf, I thought. “Silver!” I shouted out, wanting to go closer and hug my wolf, but I could not move, and then suddenly the lady with the flowing white hair smiled and patted my face in a way similar to how my mother used to. Then everything went blank. It felt like I was drifting back to sleep, I was enjoying letting the darkness of sleep envelope me. That’s when I felt the pain. And started screaming ****** Kieran Arnell The cry of the female wolf I had just heard was almost deafening and, as the alpha of the rogue lands and being the strong werewolf that I am, that never happened. It sounded very different but close and the call seemed to be like a magnet to me, it was pulling me. Moving as fast and as quietly as I could, I followed the sound and, getting to where it was coming from, I saw a truck parked and then, a few feet away from it, a white wolf almost as big as my wolf, bent over, backing me and howling in pain. I tried to move as quietly as I could but she heard me and turned, her eyes looked bloodshot and she looked crazy. I could smell the killing intent. She was in a blood rage but her eyes still seemed to call me. I had never seen anyone in a blood rage, but my father, who had only seen one as a child, had told me that extremely powerful werewolves were the only werewolves who got into blood rages because of the strain of the power on their bodies. Well now, how do you actually deal with a werewolf in a blood rage? I thought as she squared at me baring her teeth, ready to tear me. She lunged at me, she was fast. But I dodged her and after a few minutes of dodging a few of her vicious bites I was able to understand her movements and hold her down, she was strong. The moment our bodies made contact, I felt something electric and I know the white wolf felt it too, because she stopped struggling with me almost immediately, whimpered a bit, and then relaxed her body, letting her eyes close. She slowly changed into human form, revealing the body of a lean white-haired lady. It could not be. I changed into my human form almost immediately. I had just found my mate, I thought as I looked at the white-haired girl now in my hands and I had a feeling that she was the girl Darius had told me was coming to the rogue lands. She was not a normal werewolf, that was clear, but was that why she was banished? I was going to get answers, but for now, I had to get back to the rogue lands, I had to ensure she was fine.
