A new beginning.

Falling on the bed, I stared at the ceiling smiling and saying a prayer of thanks to the moon goddess. I had shifted and I was no longer surrounded by people who acted like I was a disease. Darius' face came to mind and I remembered I had to call him and reached for my bag which was on the bedside table and searched in it for my phone, then called him.

“Hey, Kiddo. I am so relieved to hear from you.”

“Darius! I met Alpha Kieran, I’m in the rogue lands and it’s a funny story. how I got here.”

“And I would love to hear the funny story…”

“I shifted last night and...”

“Really? Oh, my kiddo is a wolfo!”

“Wolfo?!” that was silly, it made me laugh, we were both laughing. I was really going to miss him.

“This is amazing news, but hope you know this doesn’t change who you are. It just shows that you have always been a wolf just a late bloomer.”

“ Thank you for always believing in me, Darius. I know I always say it, but I owe so much to you.”

“No, no, you don’t owe me a thing, thank you for being yourself and still being a light even when everyone was against you.” Then he continued excitedly, “I want to hear how it happened.”

I went ahead and told him about my journey, my transition -the parts I could remember anyway- and I could tell how happy he was for me.

“ There’s no better environment for you to hone your skills than the Rogue lands, so good luck, kiddo, this is a new beginning for you and I know it is about to get exciting.”

“I am excited about the future, Darius. I wish you had come along, but I understand.”

“The next time we see each other, I’m sure you will understand why. But till then, make sure you take care of yourself and Silver too.”

“I will, you too, Darius. I love you.”

“I love you too, Kiddo. Bye.”

After my call, I walked to the balcony, looked out, and had my first view of what the Rogue lands looked like. I had no idea what to expect, but what I saw was beautiful. I was facing the ocean. I had never seen the ocean and to be standing here being caressed by the moist ocean breeze, this is my new beginning and there is no place I would rather be.

There was a knock on the door, obstructing my thoughts and making me go back into the room, sadly. The moment I opened the door, I was met by a short-haired cherub-looking lady and the yummy smell of food and my stomach responded, loudly too.

“Hello, I believe I came at the right time.” The lady with the food trolley said as she entered the room with it, making me blush.

“I had no idea I was so hungry.”

“Honey, you don’t need to explain hunger. Just dig in.” she left after setting the trolley by the bed.

Closing the door behind her, I turned to the food and dug in, just as she said.

After getting the call from Dawn, I felt a certain sense of ease that I had not felt in years. I knew she was safe now and this was only the beginning. Sending her to the rogue lands was the only option as there was no one else I would trust with Dawn.

I should talk to Kieran, I thought, and almost immediately a call came through, it was from him. Smiling, I picked up the call.

“Hello, old man.”

“Thank you, son.” My abrupt reply to his greeting made him laugh.

“Come on, I didn’t do anything.”

“I spoke to Dawn and it seems like you did a lot. She sounded so comfortable. I hadn’t heard her sound so free in years.”

“She told me everything and that’s horrible.” He paused. “She’s safe now.”

“Yes, and she told me she shifted…”

“Yes!” he cut me short. “ That’s why I called.”

His pause had me worried.

“what’s wrong?”

“I mean I don’t think it’s a problem, but she is just really strong. Dawn had a blood rage, old man.”

I chuckled, that rarely ever happened. I knew she was special.

“How did you handle it?”

“I was able to calm her after a struggle and she is an untrained wolf, a big one! So just imagine when she starts training as a wolf.”

“Of course, her wolf would be white. Amazing! Well, I’ve taught her the basics. The rest is up to you now, son. You’ll enjoy teaching her; she’s fast.”

“The trainer tasks the trainee.”

That made me laugh. I had trained Kieran under the instructions of his father, the alpha of the Rogue lands at that time. He was really young then, the youngest werewolf I had ever trained, but he had a fire in him that outshone a lot of the other werewolves.

“But did you ever find out who did it?” he asked. And I knew he was asking about her father.

“Trust me, we searched, me and her mother, but never found a single clue. I believe her mother might have come close to something and got poisoned, but I have never said my thoughts out loud. I really did not want whoever was behind the murders to suspect I was involved and take me down too. I had to stay around for Dawn so all investigation halted.” I sighed, it was a very dark memory.

“You made the right choice, Darius.”

“Yes, I definitely did.”

“Alright old man, take care. Bye”

“Bye, Kieran.”

A lot had changed, the little boy I had trained was now leading one of the biggest packs and doing a fine job at it. I chuckled again, I felt intense pride. And after Kieran told me about Dawn's strength, l know it is just a matter of time before her powers are honed and she becomes one of the strong ones. A fiery white wolf, the Daniels lineage has always been known for their strength, so Dawn showing such strength is only the beginning.

Letting the spray of warm water from the shower hit me, I was reminded of the last shower I had. It was the white moon pack and it made me begin to think of the changes that had just occurred in my life. I thought of how scared I was yesterday and it’s not like I am not scared, but today I understand that fear and I know it is because this is all new to me. I am going to be shown around by Kieran, alpha Kieran. He’s the alpha, right? I’m pretty sure the other wolves don’t call him Kieran, hmmm…

Anyway, I am excited about getting to know more about the rogue lands. We never really spoke about the rogue lands back in white moon pack. I only heard a few times when I was still young that it was a place where all the exiled werewolves were sent to and exiled people were supposedly the worst of the worst and I remember asking my mother and she laughed and told me it was another pack just like ours.

So far, it looks and smells like paradise. I mean I still miss the beautiful scent of flowers and spices in white moon pack but it is refreshing, very refreshing. It meant something different. After my shower, I stepped out of the glass stall and stood in front of the mirror searching to see if there would be any changes in my body due to my shifting. Nothing as still the same as I thought as I looked and felt all around my body.

Then I remembered Alpha Kieran had said something about my eyes shining, so I walked to the mirror at the sink and looked closely into my eyes, still the same. I guess that will be figured out when I start my wolf training and I cannot wait for that! Taking the white towel from the towel rack, I wrap it around my body, then I take a shorter one, pat my hair dry with it and then wrap it around my head. Walking back into the big room, I did a little twirl and fell with my arms wide on the bed and stayed there for a little while. It felt really nice to be free.

I took my time to dress up and then I sat back on the bed dressed in one of the tracksuits pants I had gotten from the store and a white sleeveless tee I had. I let my hair down in a center part for the first time and I loved it! I had looked at my reflection and felt a little shy at first, but I really liked what I looked like in it, so I decided to go with it. I was eager to see everywhere. Kieran had said he would see me in a few hours. How many hours had gone by 1?2? I also had no idea what the time was, I thought as I searched for my phone to check the time. It was 5:03 pm, WOW! I must have slept for a while. I walked to the door, opened it, and checked to see if I could see someone there, but there was no one.

Closing the door, I looked around the room and my sight fell on my backpack. Immediately, I remembered my mother’s journal which Darius gave me yesterday morning. Walking back to bed, I took the journal out of my backpack and decided I was going to read it until someone came to check on me or take out the food tray. Taking a deep breath, I opened the journal and read.
