Julianne High
Today was just the same as any old day. Walk to my tiny little school, hang out with my best friend Micah then head to class. Well, I thought it was just the same. That was until I felt the amber eyes watching me from the forest edge. Every day this week, at least twice last week and the week prior, I would be walking to and from school feeling like somebody was watching my every move. Only problem was, it wasn't a who, but a what. As far as I could tell it was a VERY large wolf. The weird part? It seemed to be just the one. Lucky for me, if Micah was walking with me, the wolf stayed away. I could still feel it's presence but couldn't see it anywhere. Like that was any reassurance.
"Jayce! Snap out of it!" Micah's words snapped me out of my thoughts.
"Sorry. I was just thinking about that wolf again." He just looked at me and rolled his eyes. I swear, for a guy, he can be such a drama queen!
"You need to stop thinking about that wolf. I told you it's just curious. It isn't like it is stalking its prey. Tell you what, come over to my place tonight. We can watch some Netflix." He wiggled his eyebrows in an overly exaggerated way.
Micah grew up just down the street from me, so I have known him my entire life. He has always been good looking and me being his best friend made more than one girl jealous. He never had any serious relationships and I always blamed me being around him all the time even though he swore he just isn't the relationship type. Senior year of high school it's like he went through a growth spurt. Almost a full-on change. He seemed to get taller, and bigger. Holy cow those muscles! I knew he didn't go to the gym, like I said, always together. He wore his dark blonde hair in a messy shag, his hazel eyes could bore holes into your soul. When did he start growing a beard?
"Hello? Earth to Jayce. Did I lose you to that wolf again?" His words, once again snapping me out of my daze.
"Um yea, Netflix sounds great. What time?" I tried to hide the pink creeping up my cheeks.
"You know the drill sweetheart. You walk home with me. It is Friday, just grab an overnight bag and stay over since we have that hike tomorrow morning. I'll make waffles."
"You sure do know the way to my heart, through my stomach. I guess we can swing by my house on the walk home, grab some stuff and head on down to your place. Tonight is supposed to be a nice clear night too. I'll grab my big blanket. We can have dinner under the stars." It sounded good to me.
*Bell rings*
"Time for class lover. Let's hope this day goes by fast. I heard there is a new horror flick that we can watch." The way he talks and acts, no wonder people think we are a couple. If only he knew how I felt about him. He would never speak to me again and I would live out my days lonely and in a dark cave in the mountains.
The rest of the day flew by and before I knew it I was at my locker waiting for Micah.
"You look like a dog begging for a treat. You know that, right?" Sarah, class b***h. She keeps trying to get in Micah's pants. He shuts her down, she blames me, we fight, she cries, rinse, repeat next week.
"Excuse you?" I don't waste many words on her. She's your typical high school bully. She's gorgeous but mean for no reason. Well, I guess she has a reason with me. I spend time with "her man" as she likes to claim. She is about my height, 5' 6" but she always wears heels to make it seem like she is taller. She plays the ditzy blonde to all the guys to try and get their attention, but it rarely works. I guess acting stupid is a pretty poor way to pick up men. Who would have thought? She spent all her time at the beach by the lake so she had a gorgeous golden tan that would make anybody jealous.
"You heard me, mutt. Why do you still bother? You know he will never go for somebody as plain as you. I just don't get it. You must have a super pu.."
"That's enough!" Micah came around the corner and cut Sarah off. She's lucky he showed up. I was about to tear her to pieces had she finished that sentence.
"Why do you always stand up for her? You know you want me baby. What does she have that I don't?"
"A brain. Now can you please stop grinding yourself against me? I think your tan is rubbing off on my clothes. Gross. You ready sweetheart?" Micah stood holding his arm out to me leaving Sarah looking like a deer in the headlights.
"Pick your jaw up off the floor and go home." Sarah snapped out of it and just glared at me. I swear her eyes were black. She turned and stormed off to her locker.
"Ok Prince Charming, let's go home." I took Micah's arm, and we started our walk home.
