CHAPTER ONE:
The News:
"Congratulations." The doctor said, grinning from ear to ear as he handed her the white sheet of paper. She looked at him with surprise in her eyes and took the papers with shaking hands.
The congratulations were all for what ? She asked herself. She had felt a bit of a cold for the past two days, and she had come to run a test and here, he was congratulating her on her sickness.
It looked so absurd.
He must be sick himself. She held the paper and allowed her eyes to glance through the result before her and the paper almost dropped out of her hands in shock.
One more time, she started the test and went back to the doctor.
"I don't understand." She almost yelled at him." What is this supposed to mean ?
With the smile still on his lips, the old doctor edged closer, as if he didn't see the shocked expression on her face.
"You are two months pregnant." He said, still smiling and respecting the triplets.
She almost died from fright, her heart stopped beating that very instant. This was not possible, it was not possible for her to be pregnant.
It was just once, and then he was out of his mind because he was so drunk that night that it is possible that she was pregnant?
That can't be, her eyes began to water and a thousand thoughts ran through her head as she imagined what was going to happen if it was for someone who would be happy but not for Philip. He definitely not for him.
The marriage had been a loveless one. Even on the wedding day when they stood before the altar with the priest, she knew that what she was getting into was a prison and not a marriage.
And she had made up her mind four months ago to leave because she just couldn't endure it anymore, and now the doctor was saying she was pregnant.
"Ma'am, ma'am?" the doctor called." Is anything the problem?"
She looked up at him as her breath came out heavier than she had expected and she all of a sudden felt so weak, she shook her head.
"Nothing." She murmured.
"But your eyes," the old Doctor persisted, and before he could understand what was happening, she jumped out of the chair like she had been shot and ran out of the office through the corridor, then out of the hospital as the rush of warm air hit her face.
She tried to study by herself, still clutching the test result with her hands.
She rested her back against the wall and shut her eyes momentarily as another round of headache came upon her.
How was she going to tell him this ?
She had already brought the divorce papers. She wanted to be free, but now freedom was just a word, a mirage, something far away. She could see but could not grab it. She had to do something as soon as possible.
But what if he was happy if she told him the news? She shook her head. No, he was. He wasn't going to be happy, in fact. In hell was going to be let loose.
With shaking legs, she flagged down a cab and, rattled the address to him.
She had pushed up her sunglasses that no one recognized. Imagine the wife of a popularly known billionaire flagging down a cab people would say or what they would do. Besides, she thought to herself as she felt so small, she was shabbily dressed.
As soon as the car pulled up at the magnificent mansion she paid the cab driver as he speed away, he didn't even recognize her, thankfully.
In a few minutes' time, she was in the living room, and she gave one last glance at the test result in her hand and she walked up the stairs into the room to see him getting ready.
At first, she had thought that he had gone to the office because he had told her that he had a conference meeting, but the smile which was attached on his face was so wide and deep like he had won an award.
He hadn't even smiled like that when they got married three years ago.
Something smiling. No one smiled when they were going for a conference meeting except to say they were going to get some shares from a property of a will that was about to be read.
She stood there in the doorway staring at him, her hands clasped behind her, and she was clutching her bag, she was shaking all over as she watched him getting ready.
He stared at himself in the mirror and straightened his suit when he looked at her.
"What is it? You almost scared me." He asked in a harsh tone." What ?" he asked and then said nothing as he looked at her before he gave his phone one last glance.
"Why are you staring at me like a surprise Egyptian mummy, are you sure you are fine?"
If only he had said the last word of love, then she would have responded to him.
Her heart kept beating, pumping in and pumping out blood, and she kept looking at him.
She didn't know how to tell him this, and she hoped he didn't flare up and give her a slap like he had done two days before.
"I went to the hospital today," she said.
"And so how is this my business?"
Aria stood before him, gazing into his emerald green eyes. "I have something to say..." she began.
He rolled his eyes and threw his hands up in experation and then exhaled
"Whatever it is, can it wait until I return? Rosa is waiting for me at the airport right now," Philip said, causing Aria's heart to shatter into pieces.
"I'm pregnant," Aria revealed, dropping the bombshell.
"I hope that's a joke... I can't father a bastard.
" He said, almost immediately surprised, "I hope this is some kind of sick joke ?"
