They had been staying together since college days and a few months after their graduation they decided to rent a two-bedroom apartment just a few kilometers from town. Those two were best friends but Amelia had one problem. She was always so messy, clumsy and very disorganized. While Emma was the opposite, she was trying so hard to teach her friends to be organized, but Amelia was hard-headed, she was not changing and maybe that was just her, and since the two had been friends for long, it was not easy to just walk out of her life. They were best friends and friends were meant to stick together. “Oh, you are back, Miss organized, I don’t know. By the way, I was just planning to get the clothes to the laundry room. I am sorry, don’t strain, I will arrange this house and it will be back to normal before you know it”, Amelia said, as she walked to the living room. “You always say that and I didn’t think you were going to do it anyway; I am really tired today” she said as she plopped herself on the couch and Amelia got busy tidying up the whole place. “Tell me, did you manage to get yourself an internship? I have spent the whole day sending applications all over and I am hoping that I will succeed in getting one. I don’t know. But this is not as easy as I thought it was going to be, everything is just going on its way and I don’t know, jeez, I am already tired of this back and forth” she said as she plopped herself on the opposite couch. She was busy telling her how her day was. She had just left town in search of an internship. Both her and Amelia were to graduate in a few months’ time and they just had to look for an internship before they ran out of time. “No, imagine but I walked around with a few companies promising to give me a call and all that stuff, but you and I both know that they won’t call. That is one way of telling her that there is no position I am going to get. I don’t know I am tired already, by the way. I don’t think I am getting my ass from her again tomorrow. He can ask for an extra place at that company for you. I am sure he won’t say no to you. You are his girl, of course, unlike me, who doesn’t have a boyfriend and I have to struggle on my own. I don’t even know who is going to help me. I talked to mom yesterday. I want her to talk to Chloe. I know she can help me but she is so adamant. I don’t know what is wrong with her. She said that I am grown enough to find a job for myself and that she has been doing everything for me, and that maybe it is time for me to learn to do something for myself, something in my life, and I was like okay” Chloe was Amelia’s big sister and her only sibling. Her mum had only given birth to the two of them before she divorced their father and then she ended up as a single mother, taking care of her two daughters, even though Amelia had other step-siblings, she was not that close to them. The mom moved from town to town with them after divorcing with their father and they ended up settling in Texas. The last she heard from her father was when she was graduating from high school and he only called to say congratulations to her and did not even bother to come see her at school. Her father remarried and was not staying in Florida with his other family. “And what did she say? I know your mom, she would be like ‘you know how Chloe is and I don’t know how I am going to convince her otherwise, but I will try talking to her, but I won’t promise you anything right now’ and I sort of agree with her, in some way. I’d rather do the whole laundry in this house and clean the house, but cooking is not my thing, so I cooked nothing. You can warm that rice for yourself. I will help you make dinner today. That is a promise.” “Ha-ha, I know you with promises. Anyway, I am not taking that, I will just make something for myself and, please Amelia, the house looks like a mess. Can you do something about it? I am going upstairs. I need to freshen up before I can do anything else. Do something about it.” “Sure, I am just getting down with it, by the time you are back, everything will be back to normal, the way you like it” she said with a smile. It took Amelia about half an hour to tidy up the whole place and by the time Emma came back, the house was looking sparkling clean. “Now this is what I was talking about. What stops you from doing things, like just reminding you about everything every time, and maybe you should know that you won’t get married to you, so the earlier you start checking up on this? the better for you and for your future husband” “Whatever, who told you I want to be someone’s wife?’ she asked and just then her phone rung, it was Chloe calling her. “Speak of the devil, Chloe is calling me” she said to Emma and walked upstairs to talk to her sister. “Hey big sis, I was just talking about you” she said. “Yes, obviously, you two will never stop talking about people. I am not even surprised. Anyway, I just talked to mum and she was here begging me to help you look for an internship. Seriously Amelia, must I do anything for you? Pay your school fees, pay your rent, send you upkeep money, and even look for an internship for you. Seriously, you need to mature and start doing things for yourself. I won’t be here for you forever, you know that, right?” “Yes sis, this is the last time I swear. From now henceforth, I am looking out for myself and I won’t disturb you again. She was used to Amelia doing things and she did everything because Amelia was her only sister and she loved her. “You are fun but just know that I am only doing this because I love you and you are my little sister. Anyway, I talked to one of my friends and I think I found a place for him. You will start working on Monday. It is a private art museum owned by one of my friends.
