We have to start somewhere, let it be the beginning.
Santos stood with his arms crossed before his wide chest, his feet seemed to be rooted into the ground as if he were a permanent structure.
He glared at the doctor as if challenging the information that was being given to him, processing and attempting to analyze as it spews from the doctors mouth.
Silence snaps him back into the conversation and at that moment he wished he had someone beside him to give him a chance to gather his emotions, being he literally has to put his life on pause for an uncertain time and he was not expecting to have to have surgery.
He clears his throat in an attempt to remain in his composure in front of Dr Mathers.
“Alright Dr. So what your telling me is, I have no other option but to have the procedure done or continue in pain until I decide to have the procedure?”
Dr. Mathers smirks and raises his eyebrows unfortunately, “That is correct Mr. Cruz, I wish I could give you a better option but there’s just no other way that I can recommend.”
A herniated a disc is such an uncomfortable circumstance in so many ways, not only physically but mentally, and so many other things come into play.
“I just don’t have time for this Dr.
I can’t just take a sabbatical from my Life!!”
Dr. Mathers looks at Santos a little confused.
“Mr. Cruz, please forgive me but, a man of your fortune can absolutely afford to take a sabbatical, you could live your life on a sabbatical” letting out the last word with a giggle, and a snort.
If he Only knew it had nothing to do with work, or daily obligations.
“Doc, Im not a fan of being still. My mind is constantly on the move and my body aches when not in motion, this surgery means recovery, recovery means rest, my body rests when I’m driving, and I won’t even be able to do that.”
“Then I guess it’s time to hire a chofer” he says with a hint of jealousy in his tone. “I’m sure it will be easy to find someone to drive you around, Shoot, make me an offer, haha,”. He laughs
“I’m sure your patients wouldn’t appreciate you taking a sabbatical, just to drive me around Doc.” Santos can’t even begin to imagine his surgeon driving him around.
“Well I guess your right about that Mr. Cruz” snickers the good Doctor.
After waiting for his surgery date and signing the required documentation Santos headed to the elevator, still trying to contain his thoughts long enough to at least sit quietly in his car to gather hisself properly.
He stepped one foot out of the elevator and was almost run over by this young man expertly maneuvering his way to the elevator. Behind him trying to catch up was what Santos assumed to be this boys care taker.
“Daniel!! Mira donde va!! Pide desculpa!!” Scolding him in Spanish and instructing him to apologize and excuse himself.
Which was strange to hear from this very fair skinned, fair haired woman that looked a bit over worked.
Santos understood what she said because Spanish was his first language, but still it was an interesting moment.
She was so very pleasant, she looked Santos directly into his eyes with a warm bright smile.
“I’m so sorry, Please excuse us, Junior gets carried away sometimes.” She said sincerely.
“Not a Problem at all, I won’t call the cops on him this time.” Chuckled Santos with a small smile.
Daniel, excused hisself and kept rolling Onto the Elevator the woman wished Santos a nice day and followed after Daniel, Santos replied with a “Thank you, You too” turned and walked out to his car.
Finally alone in the stuffy quiet of his vehicle just sitting in the shade at the back of the parking lot. Santos was able to take a breath and think about the last 2 hours.
“What the actual FUUUUUUUCK!!!”
