The Orphaned Alaph

Chapter 17

{Bella's P.O.V.}   

    I woke up to an empty bed. Matt was gone. I got into the shower slowly not wanting to work today. My whole body hurt and I am not sure why. I could feel a pain in my stomach, something is wrong. I slowly got out of the shower and ignored the feelings. I go down stairs to find both Matt and Aub's talking around the kitchen island. I walked in a little surprised. 

    "Good morning" I said to both of them. 

    "Good morning baby" Matt says. He has a huge smile on his face. 

    "Good morning dear." Auntie Aub's said smiling.   

    "What are you guys talking about?" I ask as I grab an apple. 

    "You of course." Matt replies, trying to hide something behind his arm that was resting on the counter. 

    "What are you trying to hide." I said back at him raising my eyebrows. 

    He giggled and showed me the picture. I had never seen them before. I take the stack of pictures and start to go thru them. Most of them are of my parents when they were younger. I the stack was some pictures of me. One was me rolling around in the mud puddle that sometime forms in the garden after a heavy rain. I smiled at the happy memories. 

    "I will assume that you brought them with you? I said looking at Auntie Aub's. She just smiled at me, nodding her head.

    "I wanted to make Matt aware on what he will be getting himself into when the time is right." She said back to me. 

    I just shook my head. "I was not that bad of a kid!"

    "No, but you are a handful." Matt says playfully. 

    I narrowed my eyes at him, and I could see his eye widen.  he rubbed the back of his neck. I told them both I would be in my office. When I opened the door I saw that all the new items had arrived and I started to unpack them. After a moment I opened my computer looking at the boxes all over the floor. I opened my email to find only a few unread. One was from work. and it's subject made me stop. 

    Mrs. Waterson. 

    I am sorry to be the bringer of bad news but due to the heavy snow on the roof it has made a weak spot. We had to bring all projects to a halt while we deal with the issue. I had to call a few people to access the damage. It looks like we had a tree hit the roof making a small hole, this must of happened this past spring when the old oak fell. No one noticed it until now. I had to send everyone how due to it being a hazard. I will send you over any paper work that maybe involved in the dilemma. I will talk to you soon. 

    I closed my eyes and rubbed my temples. I guess I will have to go in to see what is going on. I jump up going to my room. getting dressed in some warmer clothing. I go back to my office and started to gather the boxes. I put most of it into the bigger box so that I can just drag it down the stairs. I look at all the extra items in the office and close the door. It is now a problem for another day. I started my slow backwards walk down the stairs with the box coming slowly down as well. I am almost to the bottom.

    "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" Matt yells at me. 

    It scares me so bad I jump and as I do I lose my grip on the box. I see the box coming towards me, I loose my balance falling along with it. Matt runs to the stairs catching me before I can hit the hard and unforgiving stairs. I hit his chest hard. I can feel his heart racing. I look up the stairs to see a worried Jake, Joe, and John. 

    "What are you thinking!" Jake asked me. 

    "I was taking the boxes out until he yelled at me, scaring me half to death!" I said turning my attention to Matt.

    Jake looked at Matt. "Dude, why?"

    "I did not mean to scare her." Matt said looking up at him.

    "She has been jumpy every sense her parents died. She gets scared easily." Jake said snapping. 

    "I am sorry Bella, I did not mean to scare you so badly." Matt said with worry in his eyes. 

    "It is alright. Can you put me down please." I said back. Matt placed me gently on my feet. 

    "Where are all these boxes from anyway." Joe asked.  

    "My office. I wanted to make it more mine so I bought somethings. I started to unpack them  but I have to go into work to deal with an issue and I was just trying to clean up." I said. 

    "Why did you not ask for help?" Jake asked, looking at Matt in anger. 

    "I did not think I would need help with the boxes, and stop it Jake. Matt did not know so stop it now." I said in an aggravated tone. 

    "Sorry Bella. Sorry Matt. I just do not want to see you hurt. The boys and me will take out the old stuff. and when you come back we will move the new items into place. Sound like a deal." Jake said. 

    "Yes, Thank all of you, but I really have to go." I said kissing Matt on the lips before heading to the garage to get the SUV. 

    I pulled out of the gates and the weird feelings from earlier returned. I pressed them aside as it started to snow. I finally got to the warehouse and got out. I put on a heard helmet and went inside. The only person inside was Andrew the new warehouse manger. 

    "Hello, you must be Mrs. Waterson. It is nice to finally meet you. I am Andrew , but you and call me Junior." He said reaching his hand out to shake mine.

    "Nice to meet you." I said with a warm smile. 

    I looked past him at the poor warehouse. The roof was now on the floor and we could see snow starting to fall in. I looked at the mess and started to think about all the people that would now be delayed due to this. I will have to send out emails and phone calls to make sure that everyone knows about this. I could feel my head starting to hurt. 

    "When did it fall in?" I asked.

    "About a half hour ago." he said. 

    "Are you the only one here?" 

    "Yes. We sent everyone home, when I seen the snow starting to fall I said I would stay till you came in." he said with a smile. 

"Ok, most of these things will need to be covered. I will go to the supply room and grab some tarps. Can you get some straps from the trailer and maybe bungee cords are well." I asked. 

    He nodded and we started on our way. I meet him about twenty minutes later. We started covering the things closest to the fallen roof and worked our way out. We moved what we could. I could see from the whole that the snow was falling faster. I already knew that it was going to be a long night and then having to drive home in all this was not going to be fun. I checked my phone quickly to see if I missed anything and to let Matt know that it was going to be awhile longer and that I would be home as soon as I could. I placed my phone back in my pocket and continued to work. After about another Three hours everything was done. 

    "Thank you for staying and also for helping me cover and move everything. This should help in the process of getting things fixed." I said to Junior. 

    "It is no problem at all. It is part of the job and I am happy to help." He said smiling. 

    "You can go home now, and you do not have to worry about coming in till we have a plan in play to get this all figured out. Do not worry I will still pay you and everyone else. This is no ones fault and you should not have to worry about money. " 

    "Thank you." He looked surprised. 

    "Drive safe. It looks like it is getting worse." I said walking him out. 

    He got in his car and drove off. I went back to my office to send out the emails to let every employee know that they had off until further notice with no pay decrease. I also then emailed my clients letting them know what was going on leaving my number if they had any questions. I closed my laptop and walked to security to let them know what was happening. I then got into my car to make the long way back to home.
