Fresh start
Lynne after packing her bags she moved to the mirror to have a glimpse of the murderer she had become. She said to herself, "I killed my dad." Then flashes of how everything changed from beauty to chaos came to her mind.
Lynne's face lit up with joy as Roy dropped to one knee, a small box open in his hand, revealing a stunning diamond ring. The room was silent with all eyes fixed on Lynne and Roy, but Lynne's focus was solely on Roy. "Will you marry me, Lynne Johnson?" Roy asked, his voice trembling with emotion. Lynne's heart racing, she nodded eagerly, tears of joy streaming down her face. 'Yes, yes, a million times yes!' she exclaimed, as Roy slid the ring onto Lynne's finger. The room exploded in cheers and applause. But amidst the happy moment, Becky, Lynne's best friend's face fell. She forced a smile, trying to hide her true feelings, but her eyes betrayed her. She looked like she had been punched in the gut. Unknown to Lynne, Becky had been secretly dating Roy, Lynne's boyfriend. The news of Lynne's engagement was a bitter pill for Becky to swallow, and she couldn't help but feel jealous. Becky moved closer to Lynne to examine the ring. "Wow it's beautiful, Roy has wonderful taste" she said as tears ran down her cheek. Becky couldn't hide the sadness on her face after the proposal. Lynne realized her friend was different after the proposal but thought she was just tired since she had a stressful day at work.
Lynne walked home, still beaming with excitement. Her Dad, Mark Johnson was in the living room while her mum, Margaret Johnson in the kitchen baking a cake. "Mum!, Dad!" Lynne exclaimed as she walked into her house, still beaming with excitement, the diamond ring sparkling on her finger. Her dad, who was sitting in the living room, looked up and broke into a wide smile. "Congratulations, sweetie!" he exclaimed, opening his arms for a hug. "I'm so happy for you and Roy."
Lynne hugged her dad tightly, feeling happy and relieved that he was supportive of her engagement.
However, her mom's reaction was a different story. She walked into the room, a look of concern etched on her face.
"Lynne, honey, I need to talk to you about something," she said, her voice serious.
Lynne's heart sank, knowing that her mom wasn't going to be as supportive as her dad. "What is it, Mom?" she asked, feeling a sense of trepidation.
Her mom hesitated before speaking. "It's just that...I don't want you to end up with someone like Roy. I know you two have a history, but I really don't think he's good enough for you". "Mum but I love him, and his doing so well" Lynne said.
Those words got her mom angry. "Lynne you will not marry that bastard, that can only be over my dead body." "Then prepare to die because I will marry him with or without your consent." Lynne spoke angrily. 'Watch your tone young lady I remain your mum it's either your family or that bastard" her mum said. "So be it I'm leaving" Lynne replied, as she ran upstairs to pack her stuff. Mr Johnson tried to calm the tension but it was already out of the pan and into the fire. Lynne was bent on fighting for her love while her mom was firm on her leaving if she felt love was more important than her family. As Lynne pulled her bags out of the house her Dad begged her to not leave but she gave a deaf ear to him.
Lynne pulled out her phone and dialed Roy's number, as she drove to his place, but as she waited for him to pick up, she was met with an eerie silence. She checked the screen, thinking maybe she had misdialed the number, but the numbers were correct. She tried again, but the call went straight to voicemail. Lynne's brow furrowed in concern. She tried calling him again, but the same thing happened. His phone was unreachable. Lynne's mind started racing with worst-case scenarios but she quickly wiped off the thought and said to herself "probably his not around the phone."
Lynne arrived at Roy's house the door was widely open. She thought to herself "why will Roy be so careless to leave his main door widely open." She heard soft moans coming from the living room. As she walked into the living room, she saw female undies and clothes scattered everywhere. Her boyfriend and best friend were on the couch making love. Her heart beat faster and her entire body trembled. When they saw her they were not bothered just continued kissing each other passionately. Lynne hurried out of Roy's house and drove off.
Lynne pulled into the driveway, her eyes blurry from tears. She stumbled out of the car and into the house, locking herself in her room. She collapsed onto her bed, burying her face in her pillow as the sobs wracked her body. She couldn't believe what she had just discovered. Her boyfriend, Roy, cheating on her with her best friend, Becky.
Just as she thought she was going to drown in her tears, Lynne heard a gentle knock on her door. "Lynne, sweetie, what's wrong?" her Dad asked, concern etched in his voice. Lynne tried to compose herself, but it was no use. She opened the door, and her Dad rushed in, worry etched on their faces. "Lynne, what's going on?" her dad asked, sitting down beside her on the bed. Lynne took a deep breath, trying to find the words to explain. "Roy...he's cheating on me," she stammered, the tears flowing again.
Her mom and dad exchanged a shocked glance, before turning back to Lynne. "Oh, sweetie, we're so sorry," her mom said, wrapping her in a warm hug. "Lynne's dad jumped up from the bed, his face dark with anger. "I'll take care of this," he growled, already heading for the door. "Lynne, stay here with your mom,"he instructed, his voice firm. "I'll go have a word with Roy." Lynne's mom tried to calm him down, but he was already gone, storming out of the house and speeding away in his car. Lynne felt a mix of emotions worried, and scared so she went after her Dad. As she approached the front door of Roy's house, she could hear the sound of raised voices coming from inside. She hesitated for a moment, wondering what was going on, and then pushed open the door. The argument was coming from the living room, and Lynne's heart sank as she recognized her dad's angry tone. She heard a shout. She stepped inside, and her eyes met her dad laying on the ground bleeding profusely. He was lying in front of the couch, his face in agony, while Roy, her boyfriend, stood opposite him, with a knife soiled in blood . Lynne felt a surge of worry and uncertainty. "What have you done Roy?" Lynne's eyes widened in horror as she rushed into the living room, where her dad laid crying in pain and agony. Roy, her boyfriend ran away. "Oh my God, Dad!" Lynne exclaimed, rushing to his side. "What happened?" Her Dad in pain, his voice barely above a whisper. "I...I was stabbed." Lynne's heart racing, she quickly pulled out her phone and dialed for emergency services. "Mom, I need your help!" she exclaimed, trying to keep her voice calm. "Dad's been stabbed! I need an ambulance, now!". As she waited for help to arrive, Lynne cradled her dad's head in her lap, trying to comfort him. As Lynne's mom rushed into the room, her face etched with anger, "This is all yours fault you stupid girl if something happens to your Dad you will have me to content with." The sound of sirens filled the air as the ambulance arrived, and Lynne's dad was rushed to the hospital. Lynne and her mom followed close behind, their hearts heavy with worry and fear for his safety. About 30 minutes later, The doctor came out of the Emergency room, his expression was sympathetic, but firm. 'I'm so sorry, Ms. Lynne. Your father's injury were too severe, he has lost a lot of blood. We did everything we could, but...he didn't make it.'Lynne felt like she was in a nightmare. This couldn't be happening. Her dad, the strong, vibrant man who had always been there for her, was gone?
She shook her head, trying to clear the fog. "No...no, this can't be right. You have to try again. You have to save him." The doctor's voice was gentle, but firm. 'Lynne, I'm so sorry. We've done everything we can. Your father is gone. Lynne felt like she was crumbling, like her whole world was falling apart. She tried to get comfort from her mom but she pushed her away." Your the only reason for the death of your Dad you murderer. Get away from my side you monster!" she said as she wiped bitterly. A week later her dad was buried and her mum was so cold towards her. Her mom always use every opportunity she gets to remind her of how she killed her Dad. Lynne couldn't bare being reminded daily of the circumstances surrounding her father's death. So, she made plans to leave for another town, without her mum being aware. With determination Lynne still looking at the mirror, took her luggage and stepped out of the house. Lynne's mom had gone to the market.
Lynne left a letter on the dinning table for her mom which read;
Dear Mom.
I left because I couldn't face you knowing I'm the reason you are now a widow. I love you so much mum, pray you find a place to forgive me. Hope time heals the pain I caused our family.
Your Lynne.
Lynne gazed one more time at the old Bungalow she had lived in since she was born and tears ran down her cheek. The 21 year old went through strings of heartbreak and emotional trauma . She had dated 2 other guys before Roy, which all ended in tears. She was abandoned at the alter and the other was gay just using her as camouflage for people to think his not gay. Leaving for California she hoped for a new start and for the pieces of her broken heart to stay behind. In her red 2015 Toyota Camry XSE V6 gifted to her by her late father on her 20 th birthday, Lynne drove to California. Half way through the drive Lynne stopped by a small supermarket and got some groceries.Upon arrival, Lynne was overwhelmed and excited, she spent the rest of the day fixing her new place which was small but comfortable.
Her humble abode with faded colors and worn surfaces had a narrow hallway which led to three cozy rooms: a parlour with worn armchairs, a kitchen with a warm, and a snug bedroom that felt like a peaceful retreat. The next morning , she woke up feeling good . Made her favorite (Ciopinno) for breakfast with the groceries she bought the previous day. She took her bath and wore a miniskirt with a crop top. She looked at herself through the mirror and admired the exposure of her sexy legs and curves the dress was giving her. Added some light makeup which made her look so elegant and irresistibly. She was ready to explore the city.
