Chapter One
“God please come to my aid, this is becoming too much for me. When will all this end ? Do I have to let this man kill me first ? No! I have to Run away else I’ll die in this house” Eva's heart raced as she huddled in the dimly lit basement, her hands shaking with a mix of fear and adrenaline as she dialed her best friend's number. Melisa: (concern laced in her voice) "Hey, it's me." Eva: (her voice trembling, desperation creeping in) "Hey, it's me." Melisa: "Hey, what's wrong? You sound upset." Eva: (tears welling up in her eyes) "It's him again. He came home in a bad mood and took it out on me again." Melisa: (empathy and worry etched in her tone) "Oh no, not again. Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" Eva: (clutching her injured arm, wincing in pain) "Yes, he hit me. I'm hiding in the basement, but I don't think it's safe here." Melisa: (urgency rising in her voice) "You need to get out of there. Call the police! I can help you." Eva: (looking around the dusty, cramped space, fear gripping her throat) "No, I can't. He'll kill me if he finds out. Please, just stay on the line with me." Melisa: (hearing the urgency in Eva’s voice, her heart aching for her friend) "Okay, I'm here for you. We'll figure something out. But you can't keep living like this." Eva: (whispering as she hears footsteps approaching, terror constricting her chest) "Shh, I think he's coming. I have to go." Eva’s breath caught in her throat as she heard the ominous footsteps approaching the basement. Her best friend's voice still echoed in her mind, urging her to stay hidden. Melisa: (over the phone, voice filled with worry) "Please, stay safe. Don't let him find you." Eva: (whispering, her voice trembling) "I'll try." She dropped the call, her phone's light fading as she hunkered down in her hiding spot, praying that her husband wouldn't discover her. The basement door swung open with a loud creak, and Prince James; her husband, stormed in his voice booming with rage. Prince James: (yelling, his anger evident in his tone) "You better not let me find you, because I'll kill you for stressing me!" The sound of objects shattering and crashing filled the air as Prince Jame’s rampage continued, his fury palpable even in the darkness. Eva's heart hammered against her chest, fear gripping her as she struggled to stay silent. Prince James: (his voice growing more desperate and dangerous) "Come out, come out wherever you are!" After what felt like an eternity, Jame's footsteps retreated, and the basement door slammed shut. Eva waited in the silence, her breath shallow and shaky, before slowly emerging from her hiding spot. She tiptoed across the basement, reaching the stairs that led to the main house. Eva: (thinking to herself, her mind racing with fear) "Please let him be gone." The house was eerily silent as Eva made her way to their bedroom, her footsteps soft and cautious. As she entered the room, memories of all the pain flooded her mind, as she feared for her life. Eva: (her voice aching with sadness and longing) "What happened to me?" Why did I even agree to this arrangement in the first place!!! Eva's shoulders shook as she curled up on the bed, her chest heaving with uncontrollable sobs. The weight of her situation pressed down on her, the fear and uncertainty of her future consumed her thoughts. As she laid on the bed, Eva knew she had to find a way out of this nightmare before it was too late. Eva: (lamenting, her voice broken with tears) "Why did I agree to this marriage? It was all a mistake... a terrible mistake." The memory of her desperate circumstances back then resurfaced, reminding her of the reasons she had chosen this path. But now, those reasons seemed insignificant compared to the pain and fear that consumed her. Eva: (regretting, her voice thick with emotion) "I should have remained a maid... I never should have agreed to this." Her tears soaked the pillow, a physical manifestation of her anguish and despair. Eva felt utterly alone, trapped in a nightmare from which she couldn't escape. Eva: (sobbing, her voice barely audible) "I just want to be free... to feel safe again." As her cries echoed in the empty room, Eva allowed herself to grieve for the life she had lost, the happiness she had once believed was within reach. Now, she could only hope that the strength she needed to survive would emerge from the depths of her pain. As Eva's sobs subsided, she noticed a faint sound coming from outside the house. Her heart raced as she realized someone was there. Eva: (her voice barely a whisper, eyes wide with fear) "Who's there?"
