Escape (from Blood Moon Pack)

1634 Words
The Blood Moon pack lands were a sight to behold—a vast wilderness that stretched for miles, filled with towering trees and dense undergrowth. The pack was small, but their presence was mighty. They were a tight-knit group that followed their pack leader, Alpha Victor, out of fear more than out of respect. Victor was livid, his eyes blazing with anger. He paced back and forth in his office. His wolf, Fury, was also pacing, fuming with rage. “How could she escape?” Victor growled, his voice rumbling like thunder. “She was in our custody, and now she’s gone. It is unacceptable!” Fury growled in agreement in Victor’s mind. “We’ll find her. We’ll track her down and bring her back. No one escapes our pack lands. Especially not that she-wolf. We need her.” Victor nodded, his expression darkening. “You’re damn right.” Victor mind linked his Beta. “Ryan, get the trackers out. We need to find the escaped she-wolf. Then come and meet me in my office.” The Alpha of the Blood Moon pack, Victor, was a formidable figure both as a human and as a wolf. In his human form, he stood at an imposing height of 6’4, with a muscular build and a commanding presence that demanded respect. He had sharp, angular features, with a strong jawline and piercing blue eyes that seemed to see right through you. His hair was jet black and cut short, emphasizing the sharpness of his features. He carried himself with a confident swagger, his every movement calculated and purposeful. The Blood Moon pack’s alpha was a man of great physical and mental strength. He had spent many years leading his small pack with an iron fist, instilling fear in all those who followed him. His life experiences shaped him into the man he is today. “How could this happen?” Victor growled, his voice like a rumble of thunder. “I don’t know, Alpha,” his Beta Ryan replied. “We’re working on finding her, Alpha, but it might be difficult.” Victor turned to his Beta, his voice low and dangerous. “The prisoner has escaped. We need to find her and bring her back. Alive! I don’t want excuses. I want results.” Ryan knew better than to cross Victor when he was in this mood. He never understood Victor’s infatuation for this omega she-wolf he had brought in six years ago. Why he had kept her prisoner but free to roam the pack land was beyond him. Victor’s anger grew. “I trusted that witch to keep her contained,” he snarled. “She’s going to pay for this.” Fury growled in agreement over their mind link. “She should have done a better job.” As the search parties left the center village, the witch watched from the sidelines, her expression grim. She knew the alpha would blame her for the escape, even though it wasn’t her fault. Living under Victor's tyranny, being his puppet, and playing a part in the she-wolf's captivity made her sick and tired. She was exhausted, both physically and mentally, and desperately wanted out. As she watched the trackers leave to search for the she-wolf, she couldn’t help but feel irritated by the whole situation. At that moment, Gamma Emile snuck up on her. “The boss wants a word with you,” he said. He directed her towards the pack house and Victor’s office. ***** Splitting up into pairs, the Blood Moon patrollers set out, Marco (wolf Micah) and Zane (wolf Lightning) in the lead. They were two burly werewolves, one with golden fur and piercing blue eyes and the other with black fur and a scar running down his left cheek. The golden-furred werewolf, Micah, was the eldest of the two. He had been with the Blood Moon pack for over 30 years and had seen his fair share of trouble. His companion, Lightning, was a black-furred werewolf. He was the newest addition to the warrior team, having only joined the pack a year ago. “Relax, Zane,” Marco said over the mind link, sensing his companion’s unease. “We’ll find her.” They encountered a small clearing in the woods as they continued their search. The ground was littered with leaves and twigs, and a faint scent lingered. Micah knew it was the she-wolf’s scent. “Zane, look,” Marco said over the mind link, pointing to the ground with Micah’s nose. “She’s been here.” Zane’s eyes widened as he examined the tracks on the ground. “Which way do we go?” he asked. Micah closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to home in on the she-wolf’s scent. Finally, he opened his eyes and pointed to the right. “This way,” Marco said. The second group of warriors, also hunting for the she-wolf, comprised two female werewolves. One was a fiery red-headed woman named Scarlett (wolf Sun), and the other was a dark-haired beauty named Ava (wolf Catalina). They were the youngest of the patrollers, but their agility and fighting skills were not to be underestimated. Sun’s ears perked up as she heard a rustling in the nearby bushes. She signalled Catalina to be ready for action. But as the noise source emerged, they both sighed with disappointment. It was just a tiny rabbit. “This is getting us nowhere,” Scarlett grumbled over the mind link. Jake (wolf Blake) and Tim (wolf Timber) comprise the third group. They were the most experienced hunters among the warriors. Blake stopped in his tracks, his nose twitching. “I smell something,” Tim said over the mind link. Timber’s ears perked up. “What is it?” Blake’s face contorted into a snarl. “It’s her. I can smell her scent, but it’s very faint.” Without another word, the two werewolves sprinted toward the scent, their senses heightened as they closed in on their prey. But as the hours wore on, their frustration grew. The tracks, which seemed to go in all directions, eventually vanished as if the she-wolf had disappeared into thin air. They scoured the surrounding area but found no sign of the she-wolf. The three pairs of warriors rejoined. Marco sighed deeply over the mind link, breaking the silence in the group. “We lost her,” he said, his voice heavy with defeat. Sun shook her head in disbelief. “How could we let this happen? We’re supposed to be the most skilled and respected pack members. We’re the Blood Moon warriors, for crying out loud,” Scarlette replied over the mind link. Jake let out a nervous chuckle. “Could we have underestimated her? But she’s a nobody, an omega helping in the kitchens.” Ava added to their conversation over the mind link. “But who is she to the Alpha? A prisoner? An enslaved person? I don’t understand why he’s so invested in finding her.” Tim, who had been quiet throughout the entire journey, finally spoke up. “I don’t think it matters who she is to the Alpha. He gave us a task, and we failed. We have to face the consequences of our actions.” The group fell solemnly silent as they approached the Alpha’s office. They all knew what was coming. The Alpha would be livid at the thought of not finding the she-wolf. They could only hope that their punishment wouldn’t be too severe. The Alpha’s eyes blazed with fury as he saw the six warriors enter his office empty-handed. “You failed me,” he said, his voice low and dangerous. “You failed your pack.” The six warriors hung their heads in shame, unable to meet their Alpha’s furious gaze. They explained they had searched throughout the night but could not find the escaped prisoner. The Alpha’s face twisted with rage. He had trusted the Blood Moon warriors to bring the prisoner back, and they had failed him. The sense of betrayal was palpable, spreading throughout the pack like wildfire. The Alpha dismissed the warriors with a curt nod, and they dispersed silently into the night, each one weighed down with a sense of failure. As they trudged back to their homes, they couldn’t help but wonder what punishment awaited them for their loss. They knew they had let their Alpha down and hoped he would give them another chance to prove their loyalty and skill. ***** “Victor,” she pleaded with him. “I warned you many times that the spell might fail. It was never a foolproof plan. I did everything I could to keep her contained.” Victor’s eyes blazed with fury. “You’re responsible for this; you’ll pay the price if we don’t find her.” The witch stood her ground, her eyes flashing with defiance. “It’s not just my fault, Victor. How would I keep her contained if I didn’t know the truth?” Victor stepped forward, his colossal form looming over her. “You should have known better. Find her, or suffer the consequences.” The witch glared back at him. “I’m doing everything I can, but it’s not just on me. You need to take responsibility for your own mistakes.” The tension between them was palpable, and the witch would not back down easily. The witch had many names through time. Most people referred to her as the “White Witch.” Despite her age, no one knew how old she was. She was a powerful and renowned healer in her younger years. Unfortunately, her life worsened when she crossed paths with Alpha Victor of Blood Moon.
