Matthew

Matthew walked with a spring in his step as he approached his and his mate’s quarters. He was the only one on the leadership team that had found his mate, and what a story that was. ***Flashback*** Matthew was sitting on the common living room couch playing video games with his pack brothers. Suddenly, he caught a scent that made his heart skip a beat. It was something sweet that he couldn’t yet define. It was alluring. And mixed with the scent of popcorn! He looked up and saw Isabella, Alpha Gabriel’s little sister, walking into the room with a bowl of popcorn. The sudden rush of emotions surprised Matthew. He had always known she was special, but he had never imagined she could be his mate. As she walked towards them, carrying a bowl of popcorn, he could not tear his gaze away. She was breathtakingly beautiful, with long blond hair cascading down her back and sparkling brown eyes that seemed to dance with mischief. As soon as she entered the room, Matthew’s wolf, Greyson, stirred. “Mate. Mate. Mate.” “Greyson, calm down. We can’t just assume she’s our mate. We need to be sure.” Greyson growled in frustration. “Can’t you smell that sweet scent? She’s our mate, i***t!” Matthew let out a long sigh. “Yes, I can smell it. But we need to be careful. We can’t just jump to conclusions.” Suddenly, Brian’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts. “Hey, what’s wrong with you? We’re losing here!” Greyson barked impatiently, “Tell him to go screw himself! We’re busy seizing up our mate.” Matthew scolded Greyson, “Stop it! That’s not respectful. Plus, Gabriel’s here. We can’t just jump on his little sister like crazed wolves. Let me think this through.” Greyson was growing more and more frustrated. “What’s there to think about? She’s turning 18 tonight. She’s getting her wolf. It’s obvious she’s our mate.” Matthew’s heart raced as Isabella approached him, her scent enveloping him like a warm embrace. He tried to act casual, but his mind was full of thoughts and emotions. Isabella smiled at the guys as she walked over to them. Matthew felt like his throat had gone dry, and his stomach was doing somersaults. He couldn’t believe that the girl he had been crushing on for years was now standing before him. “Hey guys, who is winning?” she asked cheerfully. “Not me, that’s for sure,” Matthew stammered, his cheeks flush with embarrassment. Greyson growled in his mind, “Pull it together, man! You’re embarrassing us in front of our mate.” Brian said, “Not me either, because dumbass here can’t keep his head in the game. It’s like he’s never seen popcorn before. Seriously dude, get a grip.” Isabella laughed, and Matthew felt his heart swell at the sound of it. “Well, maybe I can give you some tips later,” she said, winking at him. Matthew felt like he was about to pass out. He couldn’t believe that Isabella was flirting with him. He knew he had to say something, but his mind was blank. Greyson figuratively nudged him. “Come on, man, say something.” Matthew sighed deeply and stammered, “Uh, yeah, that would be great. Thanks, Isabella.” That evening, while the pack gathered to honour Isabella, Matthew found it challenging to stay composed. Not everyone had these big parties on their 18th birthday, but she had Alpha blood. As he watched her dance and laugh with the other pack members, he knew he needed to tell her how he felt. After mustering up his courage, he approached her and asked if they could talk privately. But Isabella’s mother got to her first. “Baby girl, it’s time to meet your wolf,” she told Isabella. He couldn’t interfere with that. Isabella’s heart raced with excitement and nervousness as she went to the pack clearing for her first shift under the full moon. She had eagerly awaited this moment for years and was finally ready to embrace her wolf. As she arrived at the clearing, she noticed that the other pack members had gathered, eagerly awaiting her transformation. Her inner wolf stirred within her, eager to be free. “Finally, we can run free under the moon,” her wolf howled within her. Isabella couldn’t help but feel a sense of connection to her wolf as if they were the same. As the moon rose high in the sky, Isabella felt a strange sensation building within her. Her bones began to shift and contort as her wolf emerged from within. She let out a primal scream as fur grew all over her body, and the euphoria of the transformation suddenly consumed her. “It’s nice meeting you at last, Isabella,” the wolf said through their mind link. “I am Kayla, your wolf. As she looked around at the world through her wolf's eyes, Isabella felt a sense of clarity and purpose that she had never experienced before. “Kayla, I feel so alive,” Isabella exclaimed joyfully. “I can see, hear, and smell everything so clearly. And I feel this connection to the earth, the moon, and everything around me.” Isabella’s heart swelled with pride and excitement as she embraced her new identity as a wolf. The cool night air on her fur, the freedom of running on all fours, and the heightened senses of being a wolf were overwhelming. She raced around the clearing, running and jumping with newfound agility and strength. As Kayla circled back toward the pack, she caught a scent that made her pause mid-run. It was an intoxicating aroma, a mixture of musk and pine that was familiar yet elusive. She followed the scent to its source, and her eyes met Matthew's. As Kayla locked eyes with Matthew, she connected with Greyson. A rush of emotions overcame her. Something about his scent felt familiar, like a long-lost memory she couldn’t quite grasp. But then, as if a switch had flipped, it all made sense. Greyson was her mate, the one the moon goddess chose for her. Isabella and Kayla both couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed by the sudden rush of emotions. They had experienced nothing like this before, and it was both exhilarating and scary. Kayla wondered if Greyson felt the same way, and before she could even ask, she heard his voice in her mind. “I’ve been waiting for you,” Greyson said through their mind link, his voice calm and reassuring. Matthew got closer to Kayla and leaned in. He pressed his forehead against her forehead, sharing a moment of intimacy that was both intense and tender. Isabella and Kayla felt a jolt of electricity run through them when her body touched his, and she knew she would never be the same. Suddenly, they heard a roar. “What the hell is happening here? Matthew, GET AWAY FROM MY SISTER. NOW. That’s an Alpha order.” Isabella struggled to shift back into her human form. She wanted to stop Gabriel. But she was too late. Her brother and her mate were at each other’s throats. Then they heard another roar. This time it was Markus, their father. “Gabriel, Matthew, STOP right now.” Both men complied. Although he was not the Alpha anymore, Markus exuded power, and his Alpha aura was intact. “Both of you know the Moon Goddess alone determines the mate bond. Gabriel, accept this.” Gabriel sighed. He knew his father was right. He walked away. He needed to cool his head. Matthew looked up at Isabella, took her hand, and they headed out into the moonlit garden. He couldn’t believe this was happening. He stopped and turned towards her. For a moment, there was silence. Then, without a word, Isabella threw her arms around Matthew’s neck and pulled him into a deep, passionate kiss. Matthew realized he had found his purpose in life and would do whatever it took to cherish his new mate - if he made it past her brother, the Alpha. ***End Flashback***
