As Beta Matthew entered his quarters on the third floor of the pack house, he was listening for signs of Isabella. A smile lit up his face when he thought about Isabella, about the life they were building together. He loved her more than anything in the world. However, they had a rough start.

“You can say that again,” Matthew’s wolf, Greyson, snickered. “What a show it was when you found out your mate was the Alpha’s little sister, five years younger than you.”

“Don’t remind me,” Matthew gritted. Greyson loved teasing him and reminding him of embarrassing moments.

He opened the door to their kitchenette, and the warmth and the scent of fresh bread hit him. His mate was in the kitchen, dressed in a simple cotton dress, her golden hair pulled back into a loose braid. She turned to him, a smile on her face, and his heart swelled with love.

As she wrapped her arms around his neck and greeted him with a warm embrace, he couldn’t help but feel a rush of love and comfort wash over him. It was moments like these, when he was in her arms that he felt truly at home.

He could feel her warmth and affection radiating off of her. “How was training today?” she asked, her voice filled with genuine interest. She, too, was a warrior and coached the female warriors.

“It was good,” he replied, smiling as he leaned in to kiss her. She tasted sweet, and his heart swelled with love for her. She was his everything, the center of his world.

He felt a flicker of curiosity stir as he sat beside her, taking her hand. “What is it?” he asked, eager to hear what she had to say.

She handed him a white stick with a smiley face in an opening. He looked up at her, down at the little plastic bar, unable to figure this out.

Isabella couldn’t contain her excitement as she broke the news to Matthew. She had been feeling nauseous and tired lately, but seeing the pure joy that would eventually light up her mate’s face was worth seeing.

“Silly, Matthew, still clueless, I see. You would think that with years you got wiser,” she said to him mockingly. “You’re going to be a father,” she whispered in his ear, a broad smile spreading across her face.

Matthew’s eyes widened in surprise, and he couldn’t help but let out a loud cry of delight. “Oh, Isabella!” he exclaimed, throwing his arms around her neck. “That’s amazing!” His heart swelled with pride and love, knowing he would be a father.

Isabella wrapped her arms around him, relishing the warmth of his embrace. “We’re going to have a little one,” she whispered, her heart brimming with joy.

Matthew pulled back, cupping her face in his hands. “Let’s wait a little while before we tell everyone,” he said. “Especially Gabriel…” he trailed off. “You know, with everything that’s been going on with the amnesiac she-wolf, it might be better not to bother him.”

Isabella nodded, understanding the worry that lay beneath his words. She also knew that Gabriel had always protected her and remembered how he initially reacted to her and Matthew being mates. Although he came around, getting used to the idea took some time. Isabella often wondered if he resented her for finding her mate before he found his Luna. She also knew Matthew didn’t want to worry him unnecessarily.

“I know,” she said, her fingers tracing his jawline. “We’ll keep it our little secret for now.”

Matthew smiled at her, grateful for her understanding. She was everything to him, his world, his mate. And now, she was going to be the mother of his pup. “I can’t believe it,” he said, still in shock. “We’re going to be parents.”

Isabella took his hand, leading him to their bedroom. “Come here, you,” she said, pulling him onto the bed beside her. They snuggled together, talking about their future as a family.

“I can’t wait to teach our pup all about our world,” Matthew said, his eyes shining excitedly. “We’ll take them on hikes through the forest, teach them about our pack, and show them how to howl at the moon.”

Isabella laughed, picturing their little one’s face as they learned to howl at the moon. “I can’t wait to watch you be a father,” she said, brushing a lock of hair from his forehead. “I’ll schedule an appointment with Doc soon to ensure everything is on track. That’s OK with you?”

Matthew leaned in to kiss her again, savouring the feel of her lips on his. At that moment, nothing else mattered. They would be a family; that was all he could ask for.

“Of course, and I don’t want to miss that appointment,” he said.

As they sat together, lost in their thoughts and emotions, Isabella couldn’t help but feel grateful for the life they had created together. She knew there would be challenges ahead, but she felt invincible with Matthew by her side.

“I love you,” she whispered, snuggling closer to him.

“I love you too,” Matthew replied, his arms wrapped tightly around her. “And I love our little one already.”

The two of them lay together, basking in the glow of their love and the excitement of the future. They knew their lives would change but couldn’t wait to see what the future held. Unbeknownst to them, their future pup would play a significant role in things to come.
