Chapter 22: The Master Schedule
The following two weeks were a whirlwind of absolute chaos. Zara and Zayd quickly realized that balancing a traditional Islamic wedding prep alongside a major non-profit clinic launch required military-grade organization.
They met at their usual table at The Crescent Café, but the laptops were now surrounded by color-coded spreadsheets, sample fabric swatches for the wedding stage, and blueprint layouts for the clinic’s sensory therapy room.
"Okay, let's look at the timeline logically," Zara said, tapping her pen against a heavy binder. "The catering company needs a final head count for the Nikah luncheon by the fifteenth. But that is the exact same day our specialized classroom furniture is being delivered to the clinic site. I can't be in two places at once."
Zayd smiled gently, reaching over to take the pen from her hand. "Breathe, Zara. Remember what we agreed? We are co-founders of this clinic, and we are co-founders of our future home. We divide and conquer. I will handle the furniture delivery and supervise the setup with the volunteers. You focus on the catering and the guest list with our mothers."
Zara leaned back in her chair, letting out a long sigh of relief. "What did I ever do to deserve you? My mother is already pushing for a massive, three-hundred-guest wedding, and I just want something simple and blessed."
"We will keep it grounded," Zayd promised, his eyes locking onto hers with that familiar, steady warmth. "We will ensure our intentions stay pure. Every single dollar we save on an extravagant party is a dollar that can go toward buying more educational tablets for the kids. I'll make sure our families understand that. This marriage is about building a blessed life, not putting on a show for the neighborhood."
