Chapter 2 - Her Work

1669 Words
Kaede’s POV I arrived at the bar late. Thanks to man who hold-up me. The loud music and the laughter of the people inside the bar greet me. A lot of people were already wasted and so busy dancing and making out anywhere. I just shook my head of the sight. Same as usual. "Good evening, Sir!" I greeted my boss, who was busy supervising my colleagues. "I'm sorry, Sir, for being late," I said, preparing myself for his scolding. "It's okay Kaede, I know you came from school. Go ahead and change. A lot of customer is waiting for you. They really love the taste of your drinks," he said with a smile. I sighed in relief. My boss was really an angel. He was so understanding. I guess I'm fortunate to have a boss like him. "Thank you so much, Sir," I said and then hurriedly go to the dressing room to change my clothes. I ended up walking going to work since that guy took the last money that I have. Tsk! He didn’t even look like a hold-upper. I bet he was wealthy. He was so handsome but at the same time looked like a gangster. I remember someone from him. Tsk! Stop right there Kaede. He was already dead, and he would never come back! I shook my head. You should really stop thinking about him. You'll just going to hurt yourself. I took my costume for tonight and change my nerdy outfit. I need to discard the nerdy look for tonight. The thick eyeglasses that I'm always wearing were just a prop; I didn’t have a problem with my eyesight. I even painted my brows making it thick as well and I always tie my hair into a neat bun so that they will not recognize me. The nerdy look was just my disguised. But the truth was, I'm a heiress. I left my glamorous life. I runaway because our tradition was choking me. I didn’t want them to control my life. They treat me as a puppet, and the worst part was, they wanted me to marry someone I didn’t love. I only want to marry the one that I love. But I guess it would never happen anymore. I couldn’t marry him anymore. Because he was already dead. "Hevn! " Leslie yelled, that brought me back to my reverie. “Hurry up!" she continued. "Yep! I'm ready. Be there in a sec,” I shouted back as I hurriedly step out of the dressing room. I worked as a bartender at CASSA BAR since I run away from home. I became an independent person. I learned how to live by myself. It was not easy at first since I was not used to it because I've been pampered all my life. But eventually, I get through it. I've been working here for a year already. I'm also a scholar student of Karluk University, so my full tuition was for free. But the school was really strict. They have a policy that students couldn’t work in the bar or any other related establishment. That was why I came up with the disguised thing since I needed to get a job because I didn’t have money to pay for my rent and my everyday needs. So I dressed like a typical nerd at school. Glasses, neat bun hair, baggy clothes, and always bring a book, while here in the Bar, it was the opposite. "Hey! Hevn darling! One bloody Mary please," one customer ordered right away as I arrived at the bar counter. "One bloody Mary is coming up, sir!” I said chirpy and then gave the customer a wink. I needed to be professional and cheerful to them. A little bit of sweetness to the customer was not that bad. I needed it for them to like me and my drinks so that they would keep on coming back to our bar. I didn’t really like doing it but I have to so that I get a lot of tip from them. Hevn was the name that I'm using here in the bar while in school, I used Kaede Bartlett. But both of those were not really my true name. I need to hide my true identity because I know that my grandfather's men were still looking out for me. "You're so sexy tonight darling!" The same customer said with flirty tone as he sat in front of the bar counter. "Here's your bloody Mary, Sir. Enjoy! And thanks for your compliment, ” I said while smiling as I gave him his drink. I'm used to their compliments. It didn’t affect or bother me anymore. Mixing and giving the customers drink was only my job here, nothing else. Sometimes I also do flaring exhibition. I didn’t do what others do, like those girls who would allow themselves to sit with the customer at their table and do something nasty. That was a big ‘NO’ for me. Good thing that my boss respected what I wanted or else, he would lose a sexy and beautiful bartender. "Hevn, baby!” My left brow rose to his endearment as I gave him a bored look. "Stop calling me baby, Gin. I'm not a baby or your baby. What's your order?" I said flatly as I asked his order. He just laughed at me though. Same as usual. Playful and cocky. "Nice outfit! The white tube, black short and knee length black boots suit you a lot. It's so different from your normal attire in school, ” he said with an enthusiastic smile. I chuckled a bit because of his remark. "Shut up! I already know that, ” I said while grinning this time. Gin knew who I was. He was my classmate as well. We were both second year Hotel Restaurant Management student, and he was also the son of this bar owner. "I can't imagine that a nerd like you will evolve into a hot chick at night. Whoa!" he said while laughing as he tried to fix himself in one of the seats in front of me. " Evolved? Am I a Pokémon to you?" I said playfully."Stop flattering me, Gin. I might believe you, ” I continued as I settled myself in front of him so that could can talk more. "Pokémon? Maybe you're right. You can name one of them. Jeez! Just believe it so that we're done arguing." "Yah! I agree with you." We both laugh after. "Where's my beloved father?" he asked while c*****g his head to the right side. He watched the crowd of people dancing while slitting his eyes as if he was looking for someone. "He's in the office. You can check it, ” I said as I get my mixing bottle. Gin and his dad were pretty close that was why I got in as a bartender that easily. It was all thanks to Gin. "Nope! No need to check him. His old enough to take care of himself. I'll stay here and watch over you. Someone might do nasty. Can't allowed that. I'll punch them right away just for you. I haven't done any exercise for a couple of days. Might as well do it here through them," he said, grinning while throwing punches on the air. "Seriously? Jeez! Are you that person they're looking for? I just heard that the police are looking for a guy who's beating a lot of guys on the nearby city as a form of exercise. Is that you?" I asked looking at him seriously while slitting my eyes. Gin's middle name was trouble. He liked to beat people. Bad people. I shook my head—men nowadays. Such a pain in the ass! Now I remembered something again. Someone to be exact. Tsk! Really Kaede? Just stop it okay? Stop remembering the past. Move on already! "Hey! One scotch there Miss. Beautiful." Another customer said that brought me back to my reverie. I shook my head and tend the customer right away. “Yes Sir!" "Hey! That guy that you're talking about is not me. This face?" he said while putting his hand below his chin. “This handsome face? I doubt it. Those guys that you're talking about are ugly," he continued defending and praising himself. I didn't answer him right away since I got a customer waiting, instead, I just raise my left brow at him and then turned my back to get the drink. I'm still busy getting the customers drink when Gin continued talking behind me. "Seriously, Kae? You're doubting me? With my kindness and this handsome face? I'll beat people for exercise? I'll just go to the gym instead of doing that. Look at my muscles. See this?" he continued while pointing his biceps. "Here's your order, Sir!" I said, smiling as I gsve the shot glass of scotch to the customer. I faced Gin again, who was still pointing his biceps. I chuckled and shook my head because of his childishness. "You really got a very strong self-confidence, huh? Okay! Okay! You win. You're handsome. I'll agree with you to stop your delusion, ” I said while laughing. I admit, Gin Meyerr was handsome and also a gentleman. And yes, he also got a body to die for. I'm just really teasing him. Actually, he was my crush. The thing was, he was a playboy. Almost every day he was with different girls. He was like Mercury drug store. With Mercury, you're guaranteed that the medicine or drugs are always new. With Gin? You're guaranteed that everyday his girl is always new. "I know that I'm really handsome, ” he said sulking. He looked cute doing that, though. I just rolled my eyes at him. If he already acted like that, you just needed to agree with him otherwise, he would never stop until you say so. He was really annoying sometimes. He didn’t really give up. "Okay! You win." I just agreed for him to stop.
