Chapter 2 Love at First Sight

1178 Words
Hmph, did he think that only he could slam doors? She could too! Lucia stood in the center of the room, huffing angrily, and looked around. This room wasn't as big as Mason's, but the interior design was quite aesthetic. Looking away, she slumped onto the bed. Her heart still hurt. She was probably the only one who got mocked by her husband on their wedding night, not to mention tossed out of the bedroom! Who would've thought that her seven-year crush would result in his disgust and ridicule? "Is it worth it?" she kept asking herself. But she didn't want to give up. Mason had already become embedded in her. He was a part of her that she couldn't remove. Giving up was too painful! She believed that one day, Mason would see her sincerity and fall in love with her too! Next morning Always an early riser, Lucia got busy in the kitchen. She took less than half an hour to make two delicious and nutritious breakfast servings. Mason appeared by the stairwell when she placed the breakfast on the table. His black outfit made him seem like a cold gentleman. The out-turned collar gave her a glimpse of his golden skin, and it was fatally sexy. "Good morning! Come at breakfast." Lucia flashed a bright smile at him. Right now, he was like a prince, and her heart fluttered. Mason looked at how Lucia stood before the table with an apron. Her smiling face was like a pretty flower and, for some reason, a weird feeling flashed past Mason's heart. But he quickly recovered. After coming down the stairs, he ignored her and went straight to the library. Lucia's smile froze. The day hadn't even started yet, and she already got her parade rained on. Gritting her teeth in anger, she waved a fist at Mason's back. This asshole really was treating her like a trophy that he could ignore! "Fine, your loss!" she muttered. Sitting down, she grabbed a sandwich and bit down viciously, chewing it as if she was tearing Mason apart with her teeth. But as she ate, her mouth turned into a pout. Her appetite was gone. She tossed the rest of the sandwich back onto the plate. It would be a lie to say that she wasn't hurt from being ignored by the man she loved. She sat there and moped for a while. Then she threw the breakfast into the trash can, cleaned up the kitchen, and went upstairs. It had been too hectic and emotional last night, so she hadn't unpacked yet. When she returned to the room, she opened up her only suitcase. She didn't bring too many things. Other than clothes to change into, she only had… When she saw the old doll, her expression turned somber. It was her mom's birthday gift to her. Not wanting to think too much about her mom, Lucia quickly stuffed the doll into a corner of her closet. Then she picked up the diary in the suitcase. This was her treasure. It recorded all of her feelings towards Mason over the past seven years. Flipping to the first page, she saw the description of their first meeting. It had been seven years, but it was still fresh in her mind. That year, she was 16; he was 20. It was summer break. Mason accompanied his dad, Timothy Reynolds, to see Lucia's grandma. For the young Lucia, it was love at first sight! Lucia kept waiting for him to appear again after that day. However, she was let down. He didn't reappear until years later, when she thought she'd already moved on. But when she did see him again, she still got butterflies in her stomach, and they fluttered even harder! She learned from the conversation between his dad and her grandma that Mason had been studying abroad all these years. He had graduated now and was ready to take over the Reynolds Group. Since then, she hid Mason in the bottom of her heart and kept watch on his news. She sometimes couldn't resist her urge and would even hide outside the Reynolds Group building to catch a glimpse of him. She snapped out of her thoughts as she finished unpacking and closed her suitcase. When she went downstairs, she saw that Mason was reading the paper on the sofa. "Asshole!" she cursed inside. Lucia wanted to take revenge, so she decided to ignore him too. Lucia stuck her chin up proudly and walked past Mason without even glancing at him. She went to the kitchen, poured a glass of water, and took a sip while leaning against the table, acting very relaxed. Mason set down his newspaper and looked up at Lucia. People said eyes were the windows to one's heart, but his dark eyes were as mysterious as the deep sea. "Come here and sign this." His cold voice demanded obedience. When Lucia heard Mason suddenly speaking to her, her heart skipped a beat, but she still refused to look at him. The man had been mean to her since last night. Why did she have to follow his instructions? When Mason realized that Lucia was ignoring him, his expression darkened. "Get over here!" he ordered, raising his voice. Lucia sensed the anger in the air, but she was a stubborn girl. She wouldn't surrender so easily. She set down her cup but didn't go over. She just adjusted her posture and faced him. "Are you talking to me?" she asked. Mason frowned in annoyance. "Is there anyone else here?" he retorted. "Oh, so you can see me?" Lucia said, voice dripping with sarcasm. "I thought that you were blind and couldn't see me!" Mason's eyes flashed. "I'm going to count to three," he warned. "You better get the f**k over here." "Get the f**k over here?" Those words pierced Lucia's ears, and her anger shot up too. Sticking up her chin, she said, "You're asking for my help, so why should I go over?" Surprise flashed past Mason's dark eyes, but then he narrowed them dangerously and studied Lucia again. This damn woman dared to challenge his patience. "Good, very good!" he thought angrily. He had to admit that this woman was much more interesting than the submissive ones who surrounded him. At least, he could take this as a challenge. It just so happened that he loved challenges, and his days had been quite boring recently. It was time to have some fine. His lips curled into a smirk, and he approached Lucia. Lucia realized that she was kind of scared of Mason's eyes. When he stared at her without saying anything, it was like he could see right into her heart. As he walked over, her heart tremored in panic. But despite her fear, she couldn't lose. She gathered her courage and glared at Mason. "What do you want?" But the instant he closed in on her, her courage crumbled. She retreated instinctively until the table cut into her back. She had no escape!
