Mason scrutinized Lucia. He had a faint, cold smile, and his tall figure loomed as he leaned over her.
Lucia was 5'5", so she wasn't too short. But compared to Mason, she was like a scared little girl.
As he got closer and closer, Lucia's heart pounded against her chest. If she opened her mouth, it would probably jump out of her throat!
The closer Mason got, the further back Lucia leaned. In the end, she had to grab onto the table's edge to balance herself.
Mason's dark eyes flashed with an evil light, but he finally stopped getting closer. He held onto the side of the table, too, trapping Lucia in between.
He'd like to see how long she could hold up!
They stayed in this awkwardly intimate position, staring at each other. It was a stalemate.
As the seconds ticked by, Lucia felt like her waist was about to snap in half. Her arms were growing numb, and they trembled.
Finally, she couldn't stand this intimate yet painful position anymore. She shoved Mason's chest in frustration.
"Go away... ah!" she yelped in surprise.
The man's body was as unbudging as a mountain. Her shove sent her bouncing back to the table, and she grabbed Mason's collar by instinct.
Meanwhile, Mason kept one hand on the tabletop to support himself and circled the other arm around Lucia's waist. It was like he was worried about hurting her waist.
Lucia fell into his embrace. The collision between soft and hard shook both of their hearts—for whatever reason.
The atmosphere became a bit flirty. So close to each other, they stared into the other's eyes as if in a trance.
Lucia's mind went blank. All she could feel was her heart speeding up.
There was something different coloring Mason's eyes too. It was the second time he had felt this strange feeling this morning. For some reason, it was because of this woman that he hated!
And he hated this feeling!
Irritation flashed past him. He let go of Lucia's waist without warning.
"Ah!"
Lucia was still dazed when the support suddenly fell away. She shrieked in surprise and tightened her grip on Mason's collar. There were some soft pops, and the buttons on Mason's shirt flew. A muscular chest opened up before Lucia's eyes.
The blush on Lucia's face reached her ears, and she gaped at the sexy chest.
"Like what you're seeing?"
The angry voice stabbed into her thoughts, and her head shot up. She was met with Mason's eyes of disgust. Her heart skipped a beat. It was like getting her hot passion splashed with a bucket of ice-cold water.
She let go, and her hands flew back to grab the edge of the table. Pursing her lips, she ignored her true feelings and scoffed. "Not at all! You don't have enough muscles, and you're too pale! Not manly enough!"
Mason's brows knitted. No one had ever insulted his looks before.
This woman was the first to provoke him, time and time again.
His expression darkened. Then he flew over and pressed her against the table.
"Ah!" Lucia's back crashed against the hard table. She has also bent backward in that awkward yet intimate position again.
"Are you sure?" Mason trapped her inside and leaned down. Clenching his jaw, he whispered in her ears, "I'll make you take back your words right now."
He was a wolf, and she was his prey!
Lucia panicked and struggled reflexively.
"f**k, stop moving! Or else…"
Mason's warning rang out, but his handsome face was an abnormal shade too. A vein bulged on his forehead.
They were too close. Lucia was right between his legs, and when she struggled, she pressed and rubbed against him.
Lucia realized the change belatedly. Her cheeks flushed red, and she stopped struggling. Her heart raced.
Then she bit her lips and pushed Mason's chest in embarrassment. "Please let go," she said. "I apologize, alright?"
The lust disappeared from Mason's eyes and was replaced with annoyance.
What was wrong with him?
Had he gone too long without s*x?
That must be why even someone like Lucia could turn him on!
Mason's eyes gradually cleared up. He got up and walked back to the document placed on the table in the living room. He returned to Lucia and slapped the papers onto the dining table. "Stop wasting time and sign this," he ordered.
Lucia hadn't recovered from what had just happened, and she flinched at his aggressive tone.
"What's wrong with this guy?" she thought. "Does he have a stick up his ass?"
She glared at him, then glanced at the document curiously. When she saw the words "marriage contract," her expression froze, and she picked it up.
Lucia skimmed the conditions. It basically said that she wasn't allowed to interfere with his life during their marriage, reveal their marriage to others, do anything negatively affect to affect the Reynolds family or company, or have ambiguous relationships with other men.
She also had to play the role of a wife when they were with their parents, and the marriage would last for a year. After a year, they would divorce and get out of each other's lives.
What a bossy and heartless contract!
Had he gone to the library earlier to draft this?
It was only the second day of their marriage, and he'd already set the end date. He didn't view her as a real wife at all, and it seemed that he really did hate her!
"Sign it if you have no objections," Mason's devilishly handsome face was emotionless, as if he was talking about a simple business deal. "As long as you follow the conditions, I'll transfer one million dollars into your bank account every month."
One million dollars!
She could make one million dollars every month to be a trophy. Where else could she find such a great job?
Lucia chuckled wryly and lowered her eyes. She tried to hide the hurt she felt.
Her gaze moved to Mason's signature, and tears pricked at the corner of her eyes. The pain in her heart spread…
"Or I can give you 50 million, and we'll get divorced right now." Mason wrote down the huge number on a check and ripped it out of the checkbook. He tossed it onto the table as if he was trying to get rid of a beggar.
He'd promised his dad not to get divorced within a year, but she could!
Fifty million dollars was indeed tempting, but… Lucia didn't want it!
She scoffed. Bending over, she signed her name on the contract, using her actions to prove her choice.
Mason was surprised and confused when he saw her signature.
It was such a humiliating contract, but she was willing to take it, instead of the 50 million dollars!
