Chapter Twenty-OneThe Neon raced over the uneven ground, flying skyward, then hitting hard, like a ship caught by an unexpected storm. Lynn clung fiercely to the wheel, fighting to stay on an unknown course and scouring the tree lined hills ahead. Her thoughts were parading images of the horrors that Josey would face and she was gripped by the fear that she was already too late. Lynn soared over a rise, landing hard, and then caught a glimpse of her car, its left front collapsed against a massive pine tree. As she roared closer, she saw a figure lying on the ground. In an instant, she realized that the figure was Josey. Then she saw a dark-haired man raise his arm, pointing a g*n at Josey's head. She let out a desperate scream that no one else could hear, and punched the Neon's accelerato
