One More Second

Alicia's POV Hi, my name is Alicia. I am seventeen years old and I am from Cape Town in South Africa. Well I am an only child so I am always bored at home. And also , I don't get to spend more time with my family because they are always busy, my father is a surgical doctor while my mother is a lawyer. They are hardly at home so they made sure that i had company, and by that I mean they got me a nanny. Her name is Rose. She has been with me ever since I was a baby and even today she is still with me. We also have a cook and two cleaners. And I also have my personal driver since my parents bought me a Lamborghini when I turned fifteen. His name is Frank. He is about twenty seven and he is my best friend. Him and I go anywhere we want to be. An ld the most interesting part is that I go to the most expensive school is South Africa. And believe me when I say I don't like that school, they force us to always be neat and clean. Man, we are also human beings, we deserve some piece and stuff. Well there you have it my reader. This is a girl whom has a life which many people dream of having. She has everything she needs, the only problem is that she doesn't have any siblings. Yep, she has told her mother countless times that being an only child wasn't fun but her mother would tell her that she has no time to have kids due to work. So Alicia gave up. It was a beautiful Monday morning and Alicia was woken up by her personal nanny Rose. She got up and went to take a bath and as she was done she went to get dressed and after getting dressed she went to the dining table where she enjoyed her breakfast alone, just like all the times. Her parents are never there. So as she was done eating Frank drove her to school and on their way they planned that Alicia would bunk school the following day because her favorite actor Bohang Moeko was to be in town. well what a good plan indeed. After a long ride they finally arrived at hope for More high. Frank then got out in order to open the door for Alicia whom felt embarrassed. Well Frank enjoyed doing that because he was only paid to ensure that she got to school safe and from there he would receive R20 000 per month . So Alicia hugged him and told him that they would meet later on when he comes to pick her up. And then she walked inside the very huge and elegant school. She was almost late so she just rushed to class. And as the break came she went to the school cafeteria to have something to eat and as she was done she decided to take a walk in the school yard but the only problem was that she couldn't feel herself anymore. it was as if something had just changed. As she was walking she began to nosebleed and one of the school security guards noticed the situation and ran to offer her help but as he got to her she fainted. So he has to carry her to the school clinic and her driver was called so that he could pick her up. So Frank rushed to the School where he found his young master looking pale while she was just fine when he left her. He drove her home and as he got there her nanny took her to her room and made her something to eat . But Alicia refused to eat saying she wanted a cake. abd Rose told her that in order to get the cake she wants she must eat first so Alicia forced to eat the food but as she was halfway of finishing she ran to the bathroom to throw up and Rose followed her. Well she found Alicia on the bathroom floor vomiting blood so she screamed and the other maids along with Frank came and they decided to call her parents to tell them what was going on and her father asked Frank to bring her to the hospital right away. So Frank carried her to the car and Rose left with them. Well Frank drove as fast as he could and in no time he arrived at the hospital. By the time he arrived he found his boss already at the entrance. They carried Alicia to a sick room and there two of the best doctors went on to attend her. Samples of her blood were taken and then taken to the lab and after an hour the samples were back. And they detected that Alicia had cancer. She had leukemia. Abd we all know what that meant, the test showed that she had it for almost ten years but it wasn't visible. And now it had spread to all over the parts of the body. Well the doctors went on to tell her father about this and he was shocked to find out about this. He was ready to loose the only child he had, not now. After few moments his wife came and she had tears in her eyes, she asked to see her daughter and the doctors told her that she would be able to see Alicia when she had woken up but as for now she had to be taken to a coma. So that's how the day ended. And Alicia's mother was forced to go home along with Frank along with Rose. As they got there, things weren't the same again. They were all so said not understand why this had to happen to their beloved Alicia. So minutes passed, they turned in to hours, turned in to days which turned in to months. And after six whole months of chemotherapy Alicia had the chance of going home, she was now a bit fit. And on her last day at the hospital she told her father to let Rose come and get her along with Frank. So the two got ready to get their little princess at the hospital. And as they got her they found her still as cunning as ever. She was so glad to see them. They then signed her release papers and then off they left. Rose was so happy abd emotionally at the same time. She couldn't believe that her little angel was finally going home. After a long ride they finally arrived at the huge white mansion where Alicia stayed. Well she was so shocked to see how beautiful it was, it was decorated and she couldn't wait to see what was happening inside so she ran inside only to find all her classmates wearing pure white shirts written welcome back home Alicia. She went on to hug her parents along with her classmates and then she went to the cake. Well she sliced a very huge piece and attempted to finish all of it and then the party began. Everyone enjoyed themselves. And as you know, everything comes to an end, the party ended and then everyone went home. And as for Alicia, she went on to have her medicine and as she was done she went to take a bath and as she was done Rose took her to bed. And as the following day came Alicia Rise found Rose nosebleeding . Well nobody ever said she has healed so as you know her condition is incurable, she was yet to face many health conditions. Rose went on to tell her madam and mister and Mike, Alicia's mother told her that she had no reason to worry cause Alicia was stable for now. All she needed was medical services 24/7 . Rose was heartbroken to hear about this, Mike also told her that in just few weeks Alicia would have to go to a cancer support program just around Capetown. And there she was to stay with kids with the same and worst condition as her and she would be taken care of property. Rose then left Mike and went to clean the sheets Alicia was sleeping on cause they had blood stains. And then she took her outside do that she could get some air. Alicia also had a wheelchair to help her when she got too tired. So Rose advised her to use it because she seemed tired. As Rose was pushing Alicia on her wheelchair Alicia told her that she wasn't ready to die. She told her how bad she felt knowing that when she she died her parents won't have any children left. Rose tried to comfort her but to no avail. After few moments they went back in the house cause Alicia was hungry. They found breakfast already served so they sat down to enjoy their food and as they were done Mike told Alicia later on that day she was going to her home. He thought she was going to scream or anything but she didn't, she told her father that she was just happy to get help so that she could get better. So as she was done eating Rose went to help her pack and as they were done they took the bags to the car and then Mike went on to them and told them that they would be spending their day at the mall.So Alicia, Mike ,Rose and Alicia's mother Kesha got in the car and they went to the mall where they were supposed to spend almost hundred thousand . Well they went to every snack shop and they too much that their bellies couldn't take it anymore and from there it was time to leave. Mike drove to the hospital cause he knew that if his daughter remained for more days her life was in danger because she was still sick. After a two hour ride they arrived at the huge gate of that place, it was a huge flat, very huge. They went inside , and they were welcomed by two female nurses whom seemed very friendly. It seemed as if they already knew Mike cause they greeted him by his name and then they asked if the young girl was their new visitor and Mike told them that indeed she was so Alicia was told to get out of the car and say her final goodbyes to her parent. She got out along with her parents along with Rose and she embraced all of them with with a broken heart. She couldn't believe that she was really leaving. This was a very painfully experience foe her but she had to bear. She watched her family driving away from her. She finally broke down and began to cry. One of the nurses tried to console her but to no avail. They took her inside along with her bags and then they went to show her to her room. The place didn't feel like home at all , she just wanted to just to leave and never come back. One of the nurses, Patricia told her that in no time she would get used to the place and it would soon feel like home. She was taken to her room which was all pink, her favorite things were in and it seemed as if her father told them how to arrange his daughters room. It was really pretty. The nurses then told her that there is a young boy whom helps them run the place and he would soon come and see her, and also tell her yh rules of that place and then she was left alone. And after few moments there was a knock on the door and as she opened she found this fine looking young man whom greeted her with a smile which she didn't respond back with. He got in and told her that his name was Pearl and he was the one whom kept the kids at the place entertained. He gave her a card with all the activities done every single day. And he asked Alicia to get some rest because she had a choir practice to attend tomorrow morning but little did Pearl know that he was just talking to himself Alicia was so depressed, she just wanted to die and rest in piece than to suffer like this. As Pearl left she locked the door and went in a deep sleep. And s the following day came she wasn't seen at the cafeteria and they thought maybe she was still sleeping but it got serious when activity time came and still she wasn't there so the security ran to her room and knocked and they got no response. They only heard weeping sounds and they asked her countless yes to open the door but she refused so they finally broke it and as they got in they found her laying on the floor crying. One of the nurses whom welcomed het earlier on went to get and helped her get up abd asked her what had occurred and she told her that she just wanted to die. Well this kid really needed some serious help, she was falling in a serious depression and she needed someone to talk to. The nurse told her to stop thinking about death for once cause she was going to be fine, she helped her up and took her to the cafeteria so tht she could have something to eat so tht she could have her medicine. She ate and as she was done eating she had her medication and then asked to go outside so that she could get some fresh air. So she then went outside and went to sit on a swing. She was crying all by herself up untill Pearl came to join her. at that moment Pearl - Hey Alicia - Hey, what are you doing here Pearl - You didn't show up for choir practice, I was just worried Alicia - I just didn't feel like it, I don't want to be here, I just want to leave okay Pearl - Oh, okay, but for your information you are so lucky to be here, do you know how many kids are dying to be here. Alicia - I do, and I don't want to be here Pearl- The doors are opened for you my lady you are free to leave, no one won't stop you. This is your life you are toying with. And after saying that Alicia vegan to cry. She just didn't understand her life. She was fine moments ago and now she was living like she had made a sin. It was as if she was being punished for a crime she has never made. After their talk Pearl left Alicia on the swings and told her to think about the chance she has of life because many kids dream to just have another day before they did. Abd then he left her and went back to the choir practice. He also had a friend whom suffered from Emphysema. It was a guy and him abd Pearl were really good friends. They came on the same day which is why they were able to get along. As Pearl went in the building he met up with his friend Gift. Well Gift was in the living room chilling on the couches when he saw Pearl with a long face. And he went on to ask Pearl what was the problem and Pearl told him that he felt sorry for the new girl because she couldn't accept her fate. She did not want to accept that she was going to die anyway. And Gift told h that he would try to talk to the knew girl but as for now he had some breathing exercises to make. So Pearl left him to do his job and went to the choir to where he found the kids surrounding a young girl whom seemed as if she had fainted . He ran to the girl and found her not breathing, he ran the bell he had on his neck and all the nurses came running and were shocked to see the little girl . They told all the kids to get out so all the kids left and Pearl decided to remain, and the nurses tried to do CPR but nothing worked. They even tried to electric shock her but still there was no response. Abd at that moment Alicia walked in the huge flat, her room wasn't far from the choir room so she noticed the kids crying and ran to ask them what had happened and she was told that one of their friends was si.cj so she got in the choir room only to find the nurses crying. She asked them what had occurred and Pearl went to her and told her that the girl just collapsed and passed away like that. This really shocked her, how can God be this heartless, she was just a little girl whom knew nothing about life, she knew nothing about love and yet she had to die. Alicia stormed out of the room and went straight to her room where she broke down in tears. She couldn't believe what had just happened, she then remembered what Pearl had told her later on and she realized that he was right, she had to cherish the last days she had on this earth because others are not as lucky as her. That little girls parents were informed and she was taken and life went on. And Alicia began to get involved in sports even though she wasn't good at them. And that's when she met Gift, she always saw him with an oxygen tank and she wondered why he always had it
