Chapter Seven
Project: LOTUS
"THERE ARE only ten of you..." Doctor Mauricio announced as he walk in front of us, his two hands are resting behind him.
His posture screams authority. On his side was a separate room where my mom and dad are currently in charge of controlling the different functions and device inside this facility. We can see them through the fiber glass that acts as a transparent wall and window at the same time. They are both giving me those encouraging stares.
That is exactly what I need right now. I need enough inspirations to get through this training...
"You are all here to be trained... so you can learn to wield your skills--Lumence!" The doctor's speech was halted when he suddenly reproach his son.
The eight of us synchronizingly turned our eyes to Lumence to see what kind of stupidity he did this time. He was smiling guiltily while his left hand was on his nape and the other one was hidden at his back.
I rolled my eyes. I know where this is going.
"What is that thing you're hiding behind your back, Lumence?" His father asked him in an authoritative voice with a hint of slight irritation.
Lumence smirk in an exaggerated manner that it looks like he was constipated.
"N-nothing, dad. Ha-ha."
Doctor Mauricio's forehead creased, revealing his wrinkles that reflects his age and stress to his silly son.
He walked towards his son, his aura filled with restrained aggravation. Lumence seemed to become tensed because of that. Meanwhile, Gamence--his twin brother remained emotionless beside him.
"D-dad--" Lumence tried to step backwards so his father would not be able to grab him but fate is not in his favor. His father forcefully snatched his left hand and harshly made him turn around to see what was he hiding. The person behind me chuckled when we saw what it was.
"Pizza pie?" Doctor Mauricio was irritated and obviously frustrated at his son's silliness.
Lumence just smiled at his father sheepishly.
Lumence is so cunning and mischievous, he always gets what he wants regardless of how sensible it is. And now, he, yet again, used his skill to sate his cravings. He probably silently summoned that piece of pizza pie from the kitchen earlier. I rolled my eyes again.
"S-sorry dad. I just can't help but to crave for this. Ha-ha." He laughed awkwardly.
The poor doctor just let out an exasperated sigh. Lumence is just so lucky that we are in the middle of training because if not... well, he's ears would bleed to death.
Doctor Mauricio just let that one pass and just stride his way back to the mini metal podium in front of us. He then caughed once, trying to composed himself.
"As I was saying..." His eyes grazed each of us. "This project aims to unravel your skills and develop it to its full potential so it can be utilize in a manner that will benefit you and the society."
He flick his finger and a huge flat screen suddenly materialized behind him flashing a sentence in bold italic.
Project: LOTUS
From darkness, our pure souls will emerge.
I cannot help but to smile as I peruse every bit of words on the screen. Every flick of the letters bore into my soul.
Somehow, I also felt the excitement of the people around me. I stared at the person beside me. His ash-colored eyes welcomed my stares with joy radiating from it.
"This would surely be fun right, Ryz?" He asked in an amused tone.
I just slightly smirked. "Well... I hope you're right, Blade."
"Now..." Doctor Mauricio continued, trying to get all our attentions while looking in each of us.
"I think it is time to have a little introduction."
My heartbeat suddenly gone wild.
"We will be familiarizing each one of you by means of showing your skills." He stride towards a girl with a short hair and olive skin that compliments her purple eyes.
"Maybe we could start from you, Zephyre?" The doctor said suggestedly to the girl while directing his hands towards the platform he was standing earlier.
"O-okay..." the was obviously nervous but the determination in her eyes says that she's up to the challenge.
She gracefully walks in front of us. Pair of nine eyes are directly staring at your every move so who wouldn't get nervous of that? But this girl... despite being nervous, she still manage to walk confidently like it's all nothing.
I stared at my mom and dad who are currently pushing different buttons inside the control room. After awhile, a glass wall fell in the middle of the girl named Zephyre and the rest of us, isolating her. It is probably for safety purposes, to control whatever skill she possess. The glass wall looks like the one that I saw from my parents' files inside their office.
It was designed to block any forms of heavy damages and attacks.
"Listen, Zephyre. I want you to relax." Doctor Maurcio instructed her soothingly.
Zephyre complied as she inhaled a chunk of oxygen before releasing a heavy sigh to calm her nerves.
"I want you to concentrate..." the doctor continued.
Zephyre closed her eyes, her breathing is now steady.
"...now it is time to show us your skill."
The girl released one last heavy sigh before closing her eyes.
After a few seconds of full concentration, we have witnessed the nature of her skill. Her feet slowly left the floor as her body seems to be a weightless feather floating in the air. The distance between the tip of his feet from the floor.
Levitation.
She slowly opened her eyes from being tightly shut. Her purple eyes burned in a deeper hue.
Blade, who is standing beside me, clapped his hands. It echoed in the four corners of the facility his claps were followed by the others. But my hands remained rested on my sides as I stared at the girl gradually landing on the floor. Her stares are fixed to Blade.
"That was excellent, Zephyre." Doctor Mauricio complimented. The girl just smiled contentedly.
"Now, next..." the doctor announced after the successful performance of the girl named Zephyre.
