The Attack

690 Words
We fell asleep relatively quick, I was wearing one of Malachi’s shirts and my underwear, and Malachi only had his boxers on. We both slept peacefully until there was a loud knock at our door. Malachi groaned, “Whoever it is had better have a good reason for waking us up at 3:30 am. What do you want?” I could hear Beta Matthew’s voice from behind the door, “I am sorry to wake you up Alpha, but there have been multiple sightings of rogues on our territory. They appear to be headed towards the pack house.” Malachi shot up out of bed and ran to go talk to Matthew in his boxers. I felt like someone had just punched me in the stomach. This can’t be happening again. Malachi turned to me, “My love, please don’t worry. I will be okay. I need you to stay here...” I growled, “Let me finish, I need you to stay here and make sure that everyone gets to safety before the rogues get here. They are about thirty minutes out. I am going to try to slow them down with some of the warriors. I am leaving the rest of the warriors here to protect you and the pack. Go up to the attic and ring the warning bell, so that the pack knows that we are under attack. Then help evacuate everyone in the pack house to the bomb shelter. I love you so much, I promise that I will come back to you.” I had tears falling down my cheeks. I gave him a giant hug as he finished talking. We embraced for a few seconds, then he released me and turned around to go. I put on some sweatpants and ran for the attic. I glanced out the window and I could see Malachi and Matthew running into the forest in their wolf forms with at least half of the pack’s warriors. I pulled on the string and rang the giant warning bell. I mind linked Malachi and Matthew as I rang the bell, “Be safe out there guys, and Matthew make sure that you bring you and Malachi back safely to me and Sara.” I rang the bell for at least a minute. I wanted to make sure that everyone had heard the bells, especially since it was the middle of the night. I took a deep breath to calm my nerves and headed down the stairs. I checked every room on each floor to make sure that everyone had left. I followed the crowd out of the pack house and told people to head for the bomb shelter. There were multiple hidden entrances to the shelter, and I could see where they were by the lines of people trying to get into them. Most of the entrances were hidden by a switch that opened a pathway underground. Most of these pathways were slides, so that the pack members could get to the shelter quickly. I looked around at the pack to make sure that everyone was making their way to the shelter. I saw a small child crying in the middle of the crowd. I went to her and asked, “Did you lose track of your mom?” She nodded while sniffling. I recognized her from the preschool. “Come with me Darlene, I will help you find her. I am sure she is worried sick about you.” I reached out my arms to pick her up, and she reached for me. We walked around for a bit before I saw her mom running around frantically searching for her. I sent her a mind link, “Jillian, I have Darlene, look to your right.” She gasped and looked for us. It didn’t take her long to find us. She came running straight to us and said, “Thank you so much for finding her Luna!” Darlene jumped into her mother’s arms and they headed towards an entrance to the shelter. I wasn’t used to people calling me Luna, but I guess I should get used to it since I am the Alpha’s mate.
