The Game

There were a decent amount of people outside waiting for the game to start. “It looks like almost the entire pack came out today to watch the game!” exclaimed Sara. I looked around, it did seem like there were a lot of people here today. I scanned the crowd, and I noticed that Alpha Malachi was nowhere to be seen. Sara left me to go find a spot to sit, and I walked towards Jared. He saw me and waved me over, “Alley, this is Adam, he is your team captain today.” Adam was probably close to six feet and four inches tall and had a lot of muscles. He had light brown hair and hazel eyes. He made me feel short when I stood next to him. He looked me up and down with a serious look on his face and motioned for me to follow him. Once we were out of earshot of Jared he said, “Jared tells me that you have some knowledge of the game. I want you to be completely honest with me right now. How good of a player would you say you are?” I smiled and replied, “I like to think that I am a very good player. I used to play with my previous pack members’ teenagers when I was as young as nine. I have played in every position, but I prefer to play as a running back, because I am a fast runner.” He looked at me in amazement, “Why did Jared make it seem like you were just some girl that only kind of knew how to play?” I smiled and said, “He was acting like there was no way a girl could be as good as a guy, so I let him believe that I didn’t know a lot about it. His loss really.” Adam smirked, “I like the way you think. I think that I will hold off on starting you in the first quarter, because I don’t want him to know how good you are yet. Let’s think of it like you are my secret weapon.” I liked his idea, let’s let Jared keep his old-fashioned views for at least one quarter. Both teams were relatively talented. The other team was beating us by three touchdowns in the first quarter. The score was currently 28 to 7. As the second quarter started, Adam put me into the lineup and said, “Don’t play to 100 percent of your ability just yet. Let’s save that for after halftime.” I nodded my head in understanding and stepped into my place. We were the defending team at the moment, so the other team had the ball. Jared was the quarterback, which didn’t surprise me. The player in front of him with the ball called out, “Ready, set, hike!” He tossed the ball to Jared, and he took off running towards our team. He was weaving in and out of the players. He was doing a pretty good job at dodging our team. He was coming closer to me, and I stuck out my foot and tripped him ‘accidentally’. First down. Jared looked at me and I just shrugged and said, “Opps, my bad. I didn’t hurt you did I?” He glared at me and said, “No, I am fine don’t let it happen again.” I chuckled to myself as we both ran back to our starting positions. The rest of the quarter consisted of me ‘accidentally’ messing up the other teams plays, while helping our team score. At halftime the score was 42 to 35. We were still behind, but we were slowly catching up. I met up with our team to strategize away from the other team during the halftime break. Adam told the team about my background and said that our main goal in this next quarter was to get the ball to me and help protect me so I could score. At the end of the halftime break, we all headed out towards the field to finish the game. As soon as the other team kicked off the ball, I took off running towards where it would land. I caught the ball and ran towards the other team. I think that Jared and his team were shocked that I caught the ball, because they all just stood there with their mouths open. I was already running past them once they realized what had happened, and I was too far ahead of them for any of them to catch me. Touchdown! The entire crowd goes wild with cheers, and I run towards my teams and celebrate for a second before taking our positions again. The kickoff is good, and the ball goes to the other team. The rest of the game the other team tried their best to keep the ball away from me, but it was like I was a magnet for the ball. It seemed like every other play I was catching the ball in one way or another. By the end of the game the score was 56 to 70. As the time ran out, I ran towards my team and jumped into the crowd that was huddled and celebrating. They lifted me in the air as the crowd cheered. I heard a voice in my head say, “Congratulations, that was a great game.” I smiled and looked around, “Thanks, I didn’t think that you were watching.” “Of course, I was watching. I can see everything from the pack house. Sometimes it’s easier to keep my distance from the game. The players tend to get nervous when I come to the game.” “That’s kind of creepy; you should come join everyone next time. That way you could be down here congratulating the winning team in person.” with that I closed the mind link and celebrated with my team. It was going to be a late night.
