Wishful Thinking

~ Allison’s POV ~ I got up early the next day and joined Beta Matthew for one-on-one training again. We did similar warm-ups and more practice with some grappling techniques. I was starting to catch on really quick to the techniques that Beta Matthew was showing me. He said that I was a natural, and that I had a lot of potential. This made me smile. After breakfast, I went and found Sara. I filled her in on everything that had happened since I last saw her. She was shocked to hear about the flyer, but she was fixated on something else. “Wait, so you went for a run in the woods with the Alpha, alone!? Did your wolves get along?” she asked. “Yes, our wolves got along, we even played a few games.” her jaw dropped open as I said that. “Do you even know what this means? The Alpha has never gone on a run with another female alone! And you say that his wolf got along with yours, that is unheard of. This is huge! Not just any she-wolf has been known to get along with the Alpha’s wolf. I would bet anything that you two end up being mates.” she said with a grin. I felt my cheeks flush in embarrassment as she mentioned the Alpha being my mate. I guess anything is possible, but I won’t know for sure until my birthday next week. “Speaking of mates,” Sara said, “your birthday is coming up soon, huh?” I replied, “Yes, my birthday is Next Saturday.” “Just in time for the full-moon celebration! That is so exciting.” Sara exclaimed. I looked at her puzzled and asked her, “What is the full-moon celebration?” Sara looked a little surprised when she said, “I forgot that you haven’t been here that long yet. Every full-moon we have a full-moon celebration on the first night of the full-moon. This is when we celebrate the members of the pack who have recently turned 18, and can start the search for their mate. Most of them have found their mate by the celebration, so it’s usually a time to celebrate them finding their mate. It also gives them a chance to mingle with the rest of the pack that they may not normally see if they haven’t found their mate yet. Your birthday is the day after the celebration, so you won’t know who your mate is until midnight. However, since the celebration usually goes well into the night, you will be able to be around the entire pack when midnight comes around. Which will give you a much higher chance of being able to find your mate right away.” I thought about this information briefly. “You are making a couple of big assumptions. I don’t even know if I will be officially welcomed as a part of this pack yet, and there is no guarantee that my mate is in this pack.” “The Alpha would be crazy not to welcome you fully into the pack! You have only been here a week, and you are the talk of the pack. Everyone that has met you so far is all for you staying. You have impressed more people than you know.” Sara gave me a big hug after telling me this. I thought over what she said. I was touched by her kind words, but part of me still had some doubts. She was right about one thing though. The Alpha could very well end up being my mate. The thought made me happy and anxious at the same time. I guess we will find out next week, but there is no use in worrying about what might happen in the future. Sara and I walked to the pack house together for lunch. The Beta’s brother, Jared, was sitting at the table as we sat down. He and Sara exchanged greetings. “So, Jared, have you put much thought into me playing football with you guys after lunch?” I asked. He looked at me and said, “Do you even know all of the rules? Have you played before?” His comment made Sapphire angry and I could feel her fighting to take control. I took a deep breath and decided to act innocent instead. “I have played before, and I am familiar with all of the rules.” I said sweetly with a small grin. I could tell by the look on Sara’s face that she knew what I was up to. “Do you think that you can handle playing the game with mostly guys? I mean there aren’t very many girls that play with us.” He asked cockily. I smiled, “I am sure I can manage. I used to play with the boys when I was younger.” He looked at me suspiciously. I asked, “Do you guys play tackle or two-hand touch?” He looked at me with a grin and said, “We play tackle, does that make a difference for you?” I made it look like I was thinking about it and then replied sweetly, “Tackle football is fine with me.” Jared looked like he was trying to figure me out. I could see that Sara was holding back laughter, because she knew how talented I was. “Okay, I guess you can play. You will have to be on the other team that is opposing my team. I will introduce you to the captain of that team when we go out there.” he stood up and left at his last comment. As soon as he left Sara burst out laughing and said, “He has no idea what he is up against.” I just smiled and finished my lunch.
