Running From The Alpha

chapter 3

David pov

I see Nate nod as he pulls up in a pack car, then I see a small hand on the window of the back seat. As the back door opens, I see a pretty lady getting out with a toddler girl on her hip and a small boy holding her hand. The little girl looks very similar to the women. Both have green eyes with browned hair that has a bit of a wave to it, small noses, they both have a small crooked smile on their faces. Clearly, the woman is faking it. I can feel her fear from here. The little girl is just looking at the women. I can almost see the heart in her little eyes. The little boy has light blonde hair with blue eyes but he has the same smile as the little girl, he looks excited to be here. All three of them are carrying backpacks with them.

I walked forward to greet them but the woman took a slight step back. Kate then moves forward.

Kate has this infectious personality and demeanor, she has dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. She gives a very big and convincing smile "Hi, my name is Kate and this little one here is Lilly, this is my husband Jason and that is David". She smiles again. I can see the shewolf relax slightly, although Kate didn't use my title. That irritates me. "Hi, I'm Emily and these are my children, Drew and May."

Her children? That can't be. They are human. Me and Jason exchanged a look. Before i could say anything, Kate looked at the boy Drew and asked "Would you like to come upstairs and play with me and Lilly. She has lots of toys?" He started jumping up and down, pulling on the shewolf's hand and saying " yes, yes yes" he started to walk forward and stopped and looked backwards, then to Kate again. "Can my sister come play as well? " he asked.

Of course she can!

Jason and I exchanged looks again but followed the woman and children up to the 4th floor into the play room. We all watch as Lilly and the boy start playing together, and slowly the little girl asks to be put down and joins them. I keep watch over the shewolf. She just watches the children with a smile on her face. You can see the love she feels for them.

curious... Dexter said to me

I shift on my feet and Jason notices.

He asks the shewolf. " shall we go down stairs to talk" she looks nervously at me, then back at the children. "Don't worry, they are perfectly safe, i will take care of them, I assure you" Kate reassures her. She nods then walks to the kids, whispering to them and giving them both a kiss on the cheek. I would say it was sweet if I cared enough to feel anything.

Emily pov

As we walked out of the room, I took another look back at the kids. They are happily playing.

They will be safe here. I know it, Clarissa assured me and i nodded to her.

I silently followed the men to the 5th floor into a office. David? i think his name is, took the seat behind the desk while Jason, Kates husband, offered me a chair, then sat on the one next to it, not before pulling it away and slightly facing me.

"So" David said, " why are you here? Those children can't be yours".

I'm suddenly feeling afraid.

It's OK just tell our story, they will listen, we are meant to be here. I can feel it. Clarissa pushes me on.

I took a breath in " 5 days ago. I was walking home from work when a hand reached out and grabbed me and another went around my mouth. I paused, looking David in the eye. I was dragged into a alley ......and assaulted. I sniffed, trying to hold back tears.

Jason put his hand on my knee. David impatiently said "go on". Jason shot him a look but backed down immediately and took his hand away.

"At first i thought he was just kissing my neck, but then i felt an excruciating pain on my shoulder. I got dizzy and then everything went black.

When i woke up, I was alone in the alleyway and my shoulder was bleeding.

I had to run home, I had to relieve my babysitter, I explained. I didnt report the assault to the authorities. I think i was still in shock, I think.

Once I put my kids to bed, that was when it got worse. This horrible pain started. I tried to stay quiet. I didn't want to wake the kids. I screamed into a pillow and I got so hot I crawled into a cold shower...

I eventually passed out from the pain. When i woke up, I still had a headache, but then, I heard her, my wolf.

David pov

I couldnt believe what i was hearing.

is she saying she was bitten and changed less then a week ago? Dexter asked

how is that possible? It's forbidden to bite a human. I mean unless it's your mate?

If the wolf that bit her was her mate she wouldn't be here, she wouldn't have woken up alone in a alley, I replied to him.

She finished her story, then i heard my wolf. She was sobbing by this point. Jason looked enraged.

We are all silent for a minute, soaking all this in. 'You are a new born wolf then. You have had your wolf for 4 days?

she nodded, " you haven't answered my question, why are you here?"

She looks at me surprised, Jason slightly shakes his head. I'm sure he thinks it went unnoticed. It didn't.

She squared her shoulders 'I came here to protect my kids. My wolf told me that the man who bit me might come looking for me, to join him, but she doubted my human children were apart of his plan whatever that plan is. I dont know who this man is but no one will hurt my family!

I was surprised by her outburst. She is strong in her conviction, her need to protect her family is admirable. She would make a good pack member if that protection could spread to our pack family. I stared at her, mulling over her story, the possibilities of why she was turned.

Jason suddenly asked" where is the kids'father?" I raised my eyebrows. A good question. The last thing our community needs is a custody battle between a werewolf and a human over human kids. I doubt this woman would allow her kids to be raised without her in the human world.

The Shewolf looks at the floor. "My husband died in a car accident 18 months ago, our daughter was only 4 months old". She is sobbing again.

I sat back in my chair. I mind Linking Jason. What do you think?

he replied.

I think she is telling the truth. I think she needs our help. She is new to this, has no husband and is afraid for her children's safety, we can not turn her away. I take a moment.

I dont know what this means, is someone out there biting humans..? What if she is a spy and means to wage war on this pack. Why would her wolf direct her here? Why was she chosen by this person to be bitten? Who is biting humans? There are too many unanswered questions here. I'm not sure i trust her

Jason looks at me. We can not turn away a widowed single mother in need.

I sighed then speak "I will allow you 14 day pass on our pack lands, while we investigate your claims" .

"Thankyou ....Alpha". With that, I dismissed her back to her children.

I waited until I hear the squeak of the stairs before I turn to Jason,

Jason sits looking at me. "When does Ryder return from the silver moon pack? I ask

He returns this afternoon. Alpha should be here in the next hour or two. I nod " show the shewolf around the pack house kitchen, have her stay on your floor with her children". I dismiss him.

I will need to inform the council of this shewolf, especially if her claims are true. A wolf turning unwilling humans is against werewolf law. The council has to approve a bite and they only do that in the case of a mate or if a human is in mortal danger. I rub my face and run my fingers through my hair. Just what we need a shewolf with complications, I think to myself.

I like her, she is loyal and protective of her family. I'm kind of impressed she found her way here after only having her wolf for 4 days.

So do you believe her dexter?

I don't see anything other than the truth in her. She took a big risk bringing her children to a pack of wolves.

hmmm, I need Ryder to investigate her claims. I need to speak to him as soon as he arrives.
