We head out after lunch to find Mrs Barnes, she’s at the front entrance.
“Mrs Barnes?”
“Yes Kasy, how was your first lessons?”
“Really good thanks.”
“So, I hear from Mrs Leck! Well, done Dawn.”
“Thank you, Mrs Barnes.”
“Mrs Barnes? Can we leave and go look around the rest of the Academy?”
She thinks about this for a moment.
“Under normal circumstances, yes you could. But as its your first day and lunch time, then I’d like you too remain on this side of the property. But feel free to explore outside but no further than our gates.”
“OK thank you Mrs Barnes.”
We all flow out the front door to look around outside. We’ve got about forty-five minutes until the next lesson.
“let’s go see if anyone is doing water sports?” the girls nod and move round to walk around the castle to the back.
We walk in between trees that are nearly as big as the castle, Dawn stops by one and puts her hand on it.
Dawn can listen to nature, trees the soil basically anything that grows can tell day everything that has passed here.
“Girls! This tree speaks of blood and the soil is tarnished too. Kasy, can you feel anything?” Dawn looks to me.
I heighten my senses and let my eyes go unfocused. There right over Dawns hand.
“Just above your hand!”
“Is it a soul?”
“No only the fragments of one.”
From what I can see it’s like the soul has been removed, it hasn’t moved on, it’s been taken from here. By something?
I get a closer look.
“Eloise can you and Jo do that flying water again?”
“Sure” they both agree.
Magic rises from the girls and they join hands raising their other hands, Eloise goes first the water jets out of her hand, then Jo swirls her magic around the water. It’s a tornado of water that slowly with my guidance covers the souls remains.
I’m able to see exactly how jagged the souls remains are.
“WHAT THE.....”
Is all I get out before Eloise, Jo, Dawn and Layla all see what I can see normally.
Only spirit witches can see souls, we help them move onto the next plane, we help the lost ones do whatever is holding them back after they die. We can see people’s magic better as we see through into their spirits. This is the power of the spirit Witch.
I see dead things! Yep, that’s me.
They all scramble back, breathing heavily eyes darting around.
“Dawn!” Layla’s voice is shaken.
Being a fire Witch Layla burns things. She doesn’t deal with this end of Witchcraft often and with good reason! She’s a massive whimp. Not that I’d ever say that out load but we all know its true.
“I’m still looking, there’s blood over there too.” Dawn points to the bushes that line the property.
“What do you think did this?” Jo asks Eloise elbowing her.
“Hey Dawns the past! I’m the future! How am I meant to know! You bloody find out.” Jo pushes Eloise closer to the shattered spirit. With a laugh.
“Girls!! Respect!” Dawn commands.
She’s all about how we should conduct ourselves as we are the next generation of coven sisters.
All our behaviour is being tested she likes to say. One slip and we won’t be the chosen ones we will be the shame of the Witches.
The lunch bell rings signalling time for class.
“What do we do?” Layla asks
“We go to class” Dawn rises and starts walking away.
I rush to catch up, holding her back by her arm so I can walk next to her and gauge her reaction. She looks shaken.
“You know something!” I accuse.
“Not here, I think the Academy not only has normal security cameras but also spells to keep watch.”
“So how then?”
“I have an idea of how and who. You’ve met them! There is only two people that I have met that could do this......” her voice trails off and realisation hits me.
“Jonah!” I whisper.
Dawn nods her head just a fraction.
“Did you happen to see where a certain lover boy went? I saw you kept an eye on him when he showed his presence.” Dawn gives me a meaningful look waiting for me to catch onto what she’s trying to relay to me.
Ummm.....
“SETH!” I hiss in her ear, fully understanding who Dawn is on about now.
“Yes, I did.”
“Then we have to find him, after school today. We have to break out of the Academy!”
Oh man it’s our first day and we’re already trying to break out!
They say I’m the one who causes trouble. Honestly, when will life be normal? Can it ever be normal with this much knowledge and power?
We all walk up the steps into the entrance.
“What’s our last lesson then?”
“Oh yes it sports!”
We make a beeline for our lockers and grab our kits out of them, leaving our main school backpacks in them.
We head down the long hall that runs right down the middle of the castle. Out the back door to a massive sports centre, on the right is the gym, the left is a pool. The middle is a large grass court. Then the tennis courts is round the right along the far wall towards the other side of the property. Not the side where the fractured soul is thank the goddess!
“Girls come line up on the field please!” Mrs Barnes shouts to us.
We head towards the field
“Girls have you seen those girls before they look familiar, but not from class?”
Dawn is first to answer me,
“Oh yeah those are wolfs Bitches.”
“Ahhhh s**t the ones from the Assembly Room’s?”
“The very same” Jo chuckles Evily.
“Let’s have some fun Girls!” Layla says lighting a fire ball in her hand. “At least this lot stand a chance against us!” She continues to laugh holding her fire staring the wolf girls out.
“This is why everyone Hates us you know that right?” I say whilst laughing at my friends as they all turn into Queen bees full of attitude.
“Now, now ladies enough of that.” Mrs Barnes calls over to us.
Five wolf girls line up to our five and Mrs Barnes is in the centre.
“Girl’s, we have never had a Witches girls team beat the wolf team before. I thought now would be the perfect time to change that.”
She turns to the wolf girls “Thank you for coming over for our latest match Girl’s. Now you all know the rules, but our girls have only started today and have no previous training in magical sports.”
“PFFT she doesn’t know my mum that well then!” I whisper to the other girls. The wolves hear me though. Damn I should have played dumb! Dawn gives me a withering look like she may slap me if I talk before, I think anymore today!
Honestly, it’s a condition!
“Girl’s, you will be playing Netball today. But not normal Netball like your old schools. This is magical Netball, where any spells can be used to counter and win against your opponents. You cannot cause bodily harm to the point of blood though. These spells must be natural magic....”
Layla puts up her hand. Oh, dear here we go.
“How much can I burn Miss?”
OMG Mrs Barnes looks at her like she’s an adorable child! What is going on here??
Me and Dawn share a meaningful glance of WTF!
“Just don’t hurt them too much, Ok Layla?”
“Yes miss!”
Jo bursts out laughing “you sure bout that miss?
“Quite sure Jo yes.”
Jo gives us a wide-eyed look of fear. We all know Layla can light up, we’ll probably this hole place if she wanted too.
“Everyone ready?” Mrs Barnes has the ball and moves to the side-line to through the ball in.
We all get into position, me in the centre, shooter. Dawn is back left with Jo as back right. Layla and Eloise are goal attacks on either side just behind me.
The wolves seem a bit dubious as we line up so quickly and Mrs Barnes is so excited, she looks like she’s jumping up and down!
The centre girl comes up and stands opposite me, “So your the Special ones are you?” I shrug and roll my shoulders to warm up. Not taking my eyes off the wolf for a second.
“Gear up!” Dawn shouts.
I give the girl opposite me a smirk and raise my hands to the sky.
I can hear Mrs Leck shout out from her top window. I can’t hear what but she’s watching too.
The magic swirls, purple to green, green to white, white to blue, blue to red and red to purple. A full pentagram of colour appears over our heads, the wolf girls stare in awe and we all grow two foot in height and suddenly put on a stone in fine muscles. We are ripped!
Mrs Barnes and Mrs Leck cheer us on.
They keep staring at us and at our smiles.
“Now let’s level this playing field! Can I have your elements sisters!” Dawns shouts
“We give them freely!” we all call back.
We’re each holding a ball of fire now, the pitch is covered in water. A gale force wind starts to hit the wolf girls and the Earth under their feet moves.
We’ve suddenly gathered quite the crowd I look by Mrs Barnes and see Jonah watching us by the exit of the Academy. I lock eyes with him, not for the first time today he seems to distract me. But this time he motions towards the back left player, I look at her. She seems weak and pale, what the...?
Is he showing me the weakest link? I ponder this watching the girl. Yep he definitely is, well well that's a turn around.
I look back at Jonah and mouth "thanks" to him. He nods and smiles at me.
A genuine smile for once, it seems so foreign on his face that once it breaks out, he panics! Which is highly amusing to watch and brings a smile to my face too.
It's very sweet actually, but it only lasts a second then he is back to his usual scowl of the Jonah I've known so far. For a second there he looked like gorgeous!
Students start to file out and line up along the pitch, cheering us on!
“ELEMENTALS, ELEMENTALS” is being cheered all around us.
The hole school has come out to watch, I really wish they would of said something. I'm not sure we would of been so cocky!
“I guess that’s our name then?”
I ask the wind, which carries my words to my sisters.
“Looks like it” Layla laughs
“Let’s do this!” Jo calls to Mrs Barnes who throws the ball right into the centre circle.
And the game is on!
