Mr. Ruskin put his arms around us. “You boys did great. You sure have a heck of an entertaining act.”
He looked into the cameras, “Thanks a million for watching our talent show today. We’ll see you all next week at the same time.” He stood beaming at the cameras until the little red light blinked off.
“Boys,” he turned to shake our hands, “I think you have the best pantomime act I’ve ever seen. I guess our television audience agrees.”
Some of the other contestants came over to congratulate us, as did the television crew.
Gumps and I were still stunned.
We were invited to come back as guests to watch the show the following Saturday. Then in two weeks, we’d compete for the overall number-one act. Again, Betty gave us instructions on what was going to transpire over the next two weeks.
