Chapter 9 prisoner

1013 Words
Elena's heart raced as she sat behind the wheel of the cab, the weight of what she had done pressing down on her like a suffocating blanket. The sound of William's voice echoed in her mind, urging her to do the unthinkable: turn herself in for the hit-and-run accident that would shattered her world. With trembling hands, Elena drove to the nearest police station, each mile feeling like an eternity. She replayed the events of the night over and over again in her mind. As Elena stepped out of the cab and into the harsh glare of the police station's lights, she felt a sense of resignation wash over her. She knew there would be no turning back now, no escaping the consequences of what she was about to do. Inside, she approached the front desk and asked to speak with an officer. Her voice was barely above a whisper. The officer's expression hardened as he listened, his eyes narrowing with suspicion. Why? What do you need one for? My name is Elena Kent, and I’m hear to report a hit–and–run. I was the one who killed the victims in todays accident, along the traffic light at the city center. I was scared of the consequences, so I ran away. Now I have come come to my senses and I’m ready to face the consequences of my actions. She was just staring lifelessly at the officer, like she didn’t just report herself to the station. Word of Elena's confession spread like wildfire, igniting a fury among the family members of the victim. Within minutes , an angry mob had descended upon the police station, their cries for justice ringing out in the night. Even the officers where confused on how they got to find out so soon. Elena watched in horror as the crowd surged forward, their faces contorted with grief and rage. She knew she deserved their wrath, knew she deserved to pay for her crime. But nothing could have prepared her for the intensity of their anger, for the raw emotion that radiated from every member of the mob. Since she has accepted she committed the crime she deserve it all. The riot only stopped after the officers stepped in, the whole city was in uproar. Every news station carried it. During the whole process she didn’t even do anything or plead for mercy. She was sentenced to two years , 730 days and nights in prison. Thanks to her dear ex husband. Wearing a green uniform, she curled up in the corner trembling of fear. Everything in the prison terrified her, and she was surrounded by loneliness. Barely three days in prison, Anna came to visit her, just one of her tricks to cause her more havoc. She gave Elena’s cell mate some money, not because she wanted them to suffer her less, but to suffer her more. “She wanted her dead in prison”. Elena, don’t blame me for being ruthless. I know that if you come out you would want to retaliate against me. But, I won’t give you the chance. Also if you die here Williams won’t have to bother about you anymore. Elena knew that Anna was hostile towards her, but she didn’t expect this level of viciousness from her. Once, she took her bath and, and her clothes where taken away. They asked her to stay there naked for hours and the wear was so cold that she was freezing. She tried to reason with them, but they beat her so bad that her body was covered in bruises. Her meals was always kicked over on purpose, if you want to eat grab the food on the ground, you do not deserve to eat in a bowl. If she refused they would, they would press her head and force her to eat the dirty food on the floor. If she as much as try to resist, they would attack her all together.Elena felt it was better to die than to suffer all this she was going through. Days turned into weeks, weeks into months, and Elena's spirit waned under the weight of relentless torment. The other inmates, sensing her vulnerability, made her existence a living hell. They taunted her, belittled her, and subjected her to unspeakable acts of cruelty. But the worst part was the indifference of the officers, who turned a blind eye to her suffering. Nightfall brought no reprieve for Elena. If anything, it intensified her anguish. The darkness seemed to amplify the horrors of her reality. Alone in her cell, she lay awake, tormented by nightmares both real and imagined. Each creak of the prison walls, each whisper of the wind, filled her with dread, reminding her of her dire situation. They even went as low as making sure to pour water on her bed every night so she would sleep on the cold floor. Each time she reported to the guards for help, the beating escalated so much. In the confines of her cell, Elena's mental state deteriorated. She became a mere shadow of her former self, her spirit worn down by the monotony of prison life. Time seemed to stretch endlessly before her, each day blending into the next in a haze of hopelessness. Yet, through it all, she clung to the fragile thread of her innocence, counting down the days until her release. Memories of her life before prison haunted Elena's dreams, a cruel reminder of all that had been taken from her. She longed for the warmth of sunlight on her skin, the laughter of loved ones, her grandma and mom precisely, the freedom to walk unshackled through the world. But in the cold, unforgiving reality of her cell, such dreams felt like distant fantasies, forever out of reach. Since she has been in the prison, Williams has never visited. Not that she cared anyways, she just wanted to know how her grandma was doing that’s all that mattered to her. After all that was why she agreed in the first place.
