CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT SUNDAY, JUNE 26, 8:30 AM MCLAIN HOME It’s Sunday, and we all prepare for church. The kids throw a fit because they want to watch one of their favorite cartoon shows. But it’s off to church we go. Father Nicolai is still nowhere in attendance. His recovery is taking an awfully long time. The young priest does an excellent job of the sermon and conducting the service. As we leave, I ask about Father Nicolai. He says, “The good father has had some memory loss from the blow to his head and is slowly recovering.” I guessed as much since he has not been participating in the services. Actually, the assault resulting from the confrontation may finish his career and retire due to the injury. Just too difficult for the senior father to gather his thoughts and recite sayings
