In the blink of an eye, five years passed.
In those five years, Kathryn spent her time mostly on training and her studies. She came out with flying colour during her final examination, and she's ready to pursue her career in marketing in her dream company.
Whilst, Desmond obeyed all his father's decisions for him and has become the successor of his Dad's Company.
He spent most of his time at the company and uses his leisure time searching for a vaccine to cure himself; but, all to no avail.
He only got a medication to use daily to suppress the scent, his powers, and the turning every night.
*******************************
It was a bright and spirit-lifting morning when Kathryn woke up with a smile on her face. She picked up her Mobile phone to cross-check the message that was sent to her last night. She let out a chuckle immediately after she sees;
"Your CV has been reviewed and accepted. You are to resume next week for an interview.
signed: Management
Harry Group of Company".
She jumped out of bed with indescribable joy all over her body and headed towards the bathroom but halt in her movement immediately she heard someone knocking on the door; "I'm coming..." she says and move closer to the door.
"Good morning Mom!" Kathryn greeted her mother with a tight hug all of a sudden.
"Morning dear. Are you alright?" Her mother asked with a worried expression.
"Of course I am Mom! Or am I not allowed to hug you anymore?" She replied with a smile as they both sit on the bed.
"You are always allowed my baby, but something seems different about you this morning".
"Exactly Mom! You could notice it too right?"
"Sure! If I don't pay attention to my daughter, then who will? So tell me, what's going on?" Helen responded with a smile.
*Clears throat*
"Mom, my CV has been accepted at HGC and I would be going to Hillsboro next week for an interview at the company".
Helen was so happy immediately after her daughter tells her the good news; "Wow, congrats my baby. Gradually your dreams are finally coming to pass. I'm so proud of you sweetheart".
Kathryn quickly notices how sad her Mom is when she finishes congratulating her. Helen bows her head thinking about a lot of things with tears in her eyes.
"What is it, Mom? Don't you want me to go anymore? Just say it and I won't leave anymore. You know I place you first in whatever I do." Kathryn asked as she wipes away her Mom's tears.
"That's not what I'm thinking about dear. Have you informed your father about it?" Helen suddenly asks her daughter.
"I haven't Mom. But you know it doesn't make any difference even if I inform Dad about it because he cares less about me" Kathryn replied with a hint of anger in her voice.
"I know dear. But no matter what, he is still your father; and he has the right to know. So please, try and inform him also". Her Mom pleaded with her.
"It's alright Mom, I will tell him when he comes back. So, that was what you were thinking and shedding tears about? Common Mom, you should cheer up and be happy for your daughter's achievement" Kathryn said while she pecked her Mom.
Helen let out light laughter as she stares at her daughter; "You know I'm always happy with whatever you do baby. And my love for you is unending. And come to think of it, What about your accommodation when you get to Hillsboro?"
"Don't worry about that Mom; I would be staying with a friend and it's just for a little time".
"Oh, that's good dear. I have to go now because I still have some things to attend to in the kitchen before your father returns".
"Alright Mom"
Helen left for the kitchen to supervise the maids that were cooking. Since her husband already told her to make herself useful every time in the kitchen instead of just sitting idly at home.
Later in the day, Peter came back home from work. He was heading to his room when he bumped into Kathryn that was coming out of her room.
"Hi Dad, how has been your day?" Kathryn suddenly asked with a forced smile on her face.
"Fine" Her dad replied nonchalantly as he keeps walking to his room.
"Wait, Dad! There's something I need to talk to you about".
Peter stopped halfway as he is about to open the door to his bedroom. He turned and look at her with despise; "Make it brief"
"Dad, I would be leaving for Hillsboro next week and it has to do wi----".
Kathryn hasn't finished what she is about to say before her father shut her up.
"Good luck then" Peter replied and walks into his room.
Kathryn felt a sharp pain in her eyes and tried controlling her tears. She started blaming herself for telling her father about it; "If I had known, I wouldn't have mentioned anything to him" She murmured to herself as she walks away.
She was lost in thought and didn't know when she got to the sitting room. It was when her Mom called out her name, she realized that she was already in the sitting room.
Her Mom moved closer to her to know what was wrong. "What's happening to you, Kathryn?"
"I told you I don't want to tell Dad about the trip, but you insisted that I should do it. You won't believe that he shut me up before I could tell him the main reason I would be going to Hillsboro"
"I understand how you're feeling right now my daughter but please, don't take whatever he does to the heart. One thing I want you to always remember is, no matter the circumstances, I will always love and stand by you" Helen tried comforting her daughter.
"It's Okay Mom! Talk to you later". Kathryn replied and heads back to her room with sadness...
