Chapter 3: Soleil International

“Okay, I hope you guys listened well to your Orientation. Don’t forget to follow the Company’s policy, don’t waste this good opportunity, do your best! And always remember that Our Company does absorb interns as long as they performed well!”   This is the first day of my internship at Soleil Internationals. I was so happy when I received the acceptance letter weeks ago. My dream is finally starting! I will make sure to do my best, and do everything to be absorbed by the Company! I even swore it to my parent’s grave!   “Ms. Brown right?” My head snapped back to see Ms. Smith standing behind me. She is the head of the Interns, and my eyes turned to the guy beside him who’s wearing a black suit and black reading glass. The guy looks like he is on his early thirties, he looks so professional and kind of cute. I almost smack myself for thinking that way. I cleared my throat and flash them my signature smile. “Yes, Ms. Smith?” “This is Mr. Miller, the Secretary of the CEO.” She said while smiling. My lips parted in confusion. What will the secretary of the CEO will do here?   I have heard so many things about the CEO. I heard that the owner of this Company is a Bachelor, he is included in the TOP 10 Bachelor in TIME MAGAZINE last year. My classmates said that he looks good and is really a catch but never have I tried to search for his face on any Social media or even googled him, and that’s because I want him to remain as a mystery! I do really admire him because he founded Soleil Internationals in his early 20’s and he started from scratch. And right now his Airlines is on top! It is already a five-star airline and I have heard that last year he started investing in a Shipping line. He is really that great! And I don’t want to see his face because I have this make-believe face on my mind already at I don’t want to ruin it.   “Go with him, he is in charge of you.” “Ma’am?” I got surprised by what she has said. I looked at Mr. Miller who is smiling at me and I looked back at Ms. Smith. “You’ll have your internship in the Operation Department, you’ll learn more there.” “Am I the only one Ma’am?” “Yes, only one intern is needed in the Operations Department.” I nodded and looked back at Mr. Miller. “Hello Sir..” I greeted him and he chuckled. “Hello Ms. Brown, nice meeting you. Just call me Travis.” He said before he offered his hand and I reluctantly shook hands with him. “Oh? Okay..Sir Travis.” He chuckled again. “Just, Travis.. Ms. Brown, without the Sir.” He said, which made me more confused.  He wants me to call him by his first name but he calls me by my surname? Plus, I heard that everyone is calling him Mr. Miller..so why should I call him Travis? “Let’s go? I will explain everything that you needed to do.”       I am a bit surprised and confused but I just followed Travis. I saw how almost everyone turned to look at us, maybe even they are confused. I shrugged and followed Travis, we went to the elevator at and the employees greeted him which he answered by just nodding his head at them. The Operations Department is in the Lower Penthouse, the same goes with the office of the President. While the Upper Penthouse is reserve for the CEO only. It is where he stays whenever he’s so busy at work and can’t afford to go home. And so, all employees are not allowed to go to the UPPER Penthouse. It even has a special elevator from the ground floor straight to the Upper Penthouse and also in the CEO’s office, there’s an elevator going to the UPPER PENTHOUSE. The Upper Penthouse is also known as THE Cave.   When we got off the Lower Penthouse we went straight to the Secretary’s Office, all of the people on the floor are looking at us. The Secretary’s office is connected to the office of the CEO. When you exit from the elevator you can see the reception area, from there if the CEO has a visitor the receptionist will need to call on Travis and Travis will contact the right hand of the CEO who is called as Kennard. No one knows what Kennard’ real name is and even his background. Only the CEO knows. Kennard is always present, wherever the CEO is. He is the most trusted guy of the CEO.   “You might not notice Kennard around, he knows how to hide well. But he is just here, always here for Mr. Soleil.” Travis explained to me. “Ohh..okay.” “You will gain a lot in this internship, I will make sure of that Ms. Brown.” “I know I will..”I said while smiling widely. “But, I am just wondering, why am I here? I mean I heard that the Operations Department has never accepted an intern before?” He raised his brow before he gave me a meaningful look.  “Well then, you must be one lucky girl,” he said before he informed me about everything that I needed to know. I spent hours with Travis, he told me what are my tasks as well as explained to me why I need to do those things. There are times that Travis will go to the CEO's office to bring some documents that need some signature, there are times when employees from the Operation Department will drop by to give some documents to Travis.. and for hours that I have been here, I have never seen the CEO. Not that I want to see him.. I am just wondering why I haven't seen his shadow or even Kennard's. “It’s already 4 pm, you can go now Ms. Brown.” My head turned to Travis then I look at the watch. I did not notice the time.. I was so busy and I was enjoying doing the presentation for an event. “Uhhh..I’m not yet done-“ “It’s okay, you may continue tomorrow, it is your first day after all. Don’t overwork yourself or else someone might get fired.” He said in a not serious way but it seems like he is serious. “Go now..don’t think too much. You staring at me like that is not a good thing.” He chuckled.
