The Alpha king's last chance

Amber's pov The air buzzed with anticipation as all the omegas hurriedly put the place together for Alpha Arron's return. The hall had been beautifully decorated and food had already been displayed along the long dining table. I let out a low breath as I stood off the corner of the room along with the other omegas as we waited for Alpha Arron to enter the room. My wolf perked up and whined within me but I ignored her. I couldn't recall the last time I went on a run but this wasn't the best time for her to act up. The slightest mistake and Mrs. Grove would have me scrubbing the halls for the next month. The doors creaked open and the warriors who went along with Alpha Arron to protect our borders stepped in first. My wolf growled within me, urging to be let loose and my breath hitched as Alpha Arron stepped into the room. It was as though every other thing faded away as I stared at him and I wondered what had changed. I had seen alpha Arron many times in the past but he had never elicited a reaction from me like he did now. Was he always this handsome? How had I failed to notice? “Mate,” the words tore from my lips before I could stop them and my eyes bulged. Everything within me stilled as all eyes in the room turned to me and I wished the ground would open up and swallow me whole. Alpha Arron slowly turned and his eyes flashed as he stared at me. My heart hammered in my chest as he took slow steps in my direction until he stopped in front of me. My wolf was filled with excitement at our close proximity and I barely managed to keep her under control. What was he going to do? Was he going to claim me as his mate? My insides turned gooey at the thought. My cheeks heated as Alpha Arron kept on silently staring at me intently and his hand slowly came up and caressed my cheek. “What did you say?” His deep, baritone voice asked and a shiver ran down my spine. “I- my-i…” words failed me as I tried to find the right words to speak. “Tell me,” Alpha Arron commanded with darkened eyes and I gulped. “Mate. My wolf says you are my mate,” I whispered and I heard a few gasps, reminding me that we weren't alone. Alpha Arron's hand fell away from my cheek and he took a step back before he chuckled. Confusion clouded my features as his chuckle turned into a full blown laugh. Mia, Alpha Arron's girlfriend walked up and wrapped her arms around him. “I missed you so much Arron,” Mia said as she planted a firm kiss onto his lips before she turned to me as though she was just noticing me. I knew what she was trying to do, she was trying to mark her territory and my wolf growled within me. ‘He was my mate,’ “What's going on here?” She asked and my eyes darted towards Alpha Arron as he stared at me with heat in his eyes. “This…omega claims Arron is her mate.” One of Mia's friends called out loudly for the whole hall to hear and everyone burst out in laughter. Humiliation crawled through me but I ignored them as I kept my gaze steadily on Alpha Arron. What any of them thought didn't matter. What mattered was what alpha Arron thought about everything. “What do you have to say Arron?” Mia asked and my eyes lit with hope when Arron pulled away from her a little. “The moon goddess could never give me such a weak, low ranking omega as a mate.” His voice rang loud and clear, no doubt, for the entire hall to hear him and I felt like a bucket of ice cold water was turned over my head. “She's lying?” Mia asked skeptically and Alpha Arron pulled her into his arms and dropped a small kiss on her forehead. My wolf whimpered within me at the display. “Of course she's lying. We both know we are destined to be together and that's all that matters,” Alpha Arron told Mia before he gave her a firm kiss on her lips to seal his words. My heart cracked as I stared at them and tears blurred my vision. I had made a complete fool of myself. How could I have possibly thought Alpha Arron would admit he was my mate when he had someone like Mia beside him? He was ashamed of me, my mate was ashamed of me. “That's a relief,” Mia smiled at Alpha Arron before she turned to me with a glare. “You worthless little wolf. What should we do to her?” Mia asked and fear gripped me. “You should feel lucky I'm in a celebratory mood. Have her thrown in the dungeons, I'll deal with her later,” Alpha Arron announced and my eyes bulged as the men approached me. Without much thought I shuffled forward and flung myself at alpha Arron. “Please don't do this. You know I'm not lying, I can see it in your eyes.” I pleaded with him but I was harshly ripped off him seconds before I felt a sharp sting on my cheek. “You little rat. Keep those filthy paws off Arron,” Mia growled as tears blurred my vision. I kept my gaze fastened on Arron, my eyes begging and pleading with him to rethink but he remained silent. “What are you fools waiting for? Take her to the dungeon!” Mia commanded and the guards holding me on either side dragged me out of the room. I let out a small cry as I was thrown into the dungeon and I tried not to stare at the fungi growing in the walls. What was going to become of me now? A sob left my lips as I hugged myself and I wished I had never spoken to begin with.
