The Beginning of Everything
... Fifty-seven... Fifty-eight... Fifty-nine... Sixty...
Once again.
One... Two... Three... Four... Five....
Grizea had already awoken from her sleep and gazed out the window next to her bed for the past hour. A burst of lightning lit up her dark room for a brief moment as the storm outside her window ruined her peaceful and tranquil night.
Her eyes were blank as she stared at the starless night sky, the rain soaking the window surface, and the thunder and lightning that was raging outside the window. Grizea blinked and drew the heavy blanket over her head. She'd been unable to sleep in such a storm for several years.
The sound of rain, which she used to enjoy, now contained too many painful memories for her.
Grizea huddled in her blanket, hugging her knees tightly, her brows knitted in anguish, trying to divert her thoughts away from the awful memories that were beginning to flood her mind toward the things that made her happy. But there weren't many things in her life that made her happy.
Her body trembled, she sobbed a little, but the sound of the girl's sobbing was drowned out by the growing intensity of the storm.
The night's getting late. Grizea couldn't stop crying till her eyes swelled up and she passed out from exhaustion under the heavy, stuffy blanket.
Grizea fell asleep that night, like she had the previous rainy nights, with the nightmare that continued to torment her sleep.

"s**t!" Dark growled, his jaw clenched as he felt the emotion in his chest tighten.
Again, Dark and Karlez stood in the middle of the unoccupied apartment.
This is the nth time Dark discovered an empty apartment after successfully tracking down the person he's looking for, but he's always late, every single time.
"Tsk... Tsk... She moved fast, as if she knew you'd found her location." Karlez walked around the small room, staring at every corner for signs that could lead them to the new location of the girl Dark had been searching for the past two years. "At the very least, if you know her real name, finding that girl with all your connections will be a piece of cake. What's the point of knowing her pen name anyway? You can only read all her writing on the internet, then what?" He didn't stop grumbling.
They were in a deadlock once more, just as they had been before.
"I can't believe you fell for that snake's deception. She merely gave a description of someone who might just be from her imagination, and yet you found someone who really matches her words, ck... What an unfortunate girl. Why do you still want to find her anyway? She might not want to see you… Oh, I forgot, you even kept her eyes closed for two months. Even if she meets you, she won't even know you're the one torturing her. Ckck... What a bastard!" Karlez took every opportunity to remind Dark of his mistake.
Dark had no choice but to keep his mouth shut. Regret drove him to track down the girl and make things right for her, at least let him compensate her for all the damage he had caused.
He hadn't expected to make such a mistake, let alone sacrifice someone who had done nothing wrong and had no idea what was going on.
It was too late once Dark discovered the truth. He could not find where the girl had gone.
Dark couldn't sleep for two years because of it, his nights haunted by remorse, as he couldn't stop hearing the girl's cries painfully whenever he closed his eyes.
"What do you want to do now?"
Dark was startled by Karlez's voice. "Get the owner's contact information for this apartment unit and hope that she doesn't use a third party to sign the lease for this apartment." He waved his hand as he exited the apartment and made his way to the elevator.
Karlez can only follow Dark to the apartment management office, where they will return with a file containing the information of all the people who have rented the apartment unit in the previous year.
