Chapter 31 Jake “Thank you for not killing him,” Stephanie whispered as she lifted her coffee to her lips. She sat at one of the detective’s desks, wrapped in a blanket. Jake took in how exhausted she looked and wished he could take her home. Even though she had given her statement about what had happened, they still needed her to pick Chris out of a line up. It was bullshit, but it was part of the process. “I just can’t believe the son of a b***h was under our noses the entire time. How did I not pick up his scent at the office?” Jake said, his internal anger still simmering. “Jake, we can’t keep going over this. Chris has been missing a ton of work.
