Stephanie
Stephanie quietly opened the hospital room door and peeked inside. Emily was next to her brother’s bed reading. Emily looked up and smiled, motioning for Stephanie to come in. Guilt wracked Stephanie. Mike had almost died trying to save her. The whole first floor of her house had practically been destroyed by his tussle with Chris to keep him from reaching her upstairs.
“How is he today?” Stephanie asked.
“He was awake earlier. He doesn’t remember a lot, but he asked about you,” Emily said.
“I’m so glad he’s okay. I would have never been able to forgive myself if something happened to him,” Stephanie said, looking at all the wires and machines Mike was hooked up too.
“How are you doing?” Emily asked, taking Stephanie’s hand.
