Chapter IV

Sapphire Sapphire and Solé walked through the arched entranceway to the quad. The quad was an open sports field surrounded by the four major academic builds. The first was the Merlin building of sorcery where they taught charms, conjuring, and healing magic. Then there was the marble cathedral of St. Mark that was copied in the mortal realm and given the same name. There the seven religions were taught, along with wiccan and pagan history of the realms. Next to that is the Calvin East build named after the schools founder. Basic magical skills are learned in that building such as wind use and projection. The last building was the newest one. The Paramour Hall of the arts is where students learn chants and voice command spells. They also learn new a new form of magic called art magic. It’s been practice for centuries, but was never added to the curriculum of any school. The girls walked down the stairs headed for the center of the quad, which was the soccer and football field that was surrounded by a race track. Various students were out laying on blankets reading or jogging around the field. Solé stopped in the middle of the track ring to look at her syllabus. She’d been worrying all day about taking Wiccan classes when she wasn’t really a witch or even half. She was a light friary and even though the magic worked on the same principle of focusing light and energy into a single source she wasn’t sure she’d be good at being a witch. “Do you really think I should be taking all of these classes?” Solé asked, “What if I blow it?” “Would you stop worrying potions went great this morning and you only have one class a day I have three. Being a witch is so much work,” Solé said as Sapphire laughed. “Hi, I’m Xavier,” a boy said walking over to Sapphire and Solé. He was tall and lane with sweat and water covering his t-shirt. His golden eyes held Sapphire’s gaze then slowly eased over to Solé. “Hi, I’m Solé and this is”- “Sapphire Normid I know who you are,” he whispered with a smile. “Apparently you don’t because my last name is Silverman,” she said then stormed away. “Wait I’m sorry I didn’t mean to offend you,” he said running after her, “My dad was really close friends with yours and I’ve always wanted to meet you. I know what it’s like to be ashamed of your parents,” he said smiling brightly at her. “It’s okay,” she said smiling back at him. “You wanna play a quick game?” he asked tossing up his soccer ball. “I have to walk my sister to her class,” “I didn’t know you had a sister I just thought it was you and your brother,” he said with a smile. “She’s my maternal sister,” Sapphire lied. “Oh, cool. She left a second ago,” he said and Sapphire looked around. “I guess she did.” “So, how about that game?” “I guess I could for a little bit,” she said as she placed her things on the bench behind her. “You know how to play right?” he asked as he tossed her the ball. “Yeah,” she said sitting the ball where she wanted it and tying her up in a ponytail. A piece of her hair fell in hair eyes and she pulled it behind her ear. When she looked up she noticed how intently he was staring her. Xavier blushed when he noticed that she knew he was watching her. She thought it was really cute. “You ready?” “Yeah,” he said going to guard his goal. She dribbled the ball down to the goal and he really didn’t think she’d be able to control the ball that well. He was taken aback by her grace with the ball and her form he’d hadn’t seen a girl play this well in a while. He was still in shock when she kicked the ball throw the goal. No one ever scored against him. Everyone out at the field were watching them play including Fahlynn and Harper, especially Fahlynn and Harper. “You’re pretty good,” Xavier said huffing out of breath. “Thanks,” she said scoring another goal. Fahlynn “Wow the new girl’s a pro,” Harper said as he watched Sapphire whip Xavier’s butt in another game of soccer. “We’ve got to get her to play sky soccer with us this season,” he said tapping Fahlynn’s arm. Fahlynn wasn’t trying to look up at her again. He was afraid if he did he wouldn’t be able to look away. “Lotus is going to love not being the only girl on the team and the guys will love watching her chase the ball,” Harper said with a laugh. “She’s not going to be on our team,” Fahlynn objected. “Are you crazy or just stupid? Xavier has been kicking our asses at sky soccer for years she’s the only person I’ve even seen score on him multiple times. How can you just sit there and pass this up?” Harper asked “Home girl’s the vampire,” Fahlynn whispered. “Damn, that’s Sophie.” “Sapphire.” “Sapphire and you’re just going to pass that up,” Harper tsked and shook his head as he followed Sapphire with his eyes. “Look at that a”- “Stop!” Fahlynn yelled then hit him in the back of the head. Sapphire “You look a little tired,” Sapphire said as she bounced up and down on the soccer ball. Xavier was squatting trying to catch his breath. “You’re really good,” he wheezed. She smiled and he thought it was the sweetest thing he’d ever seen. Her eyes had the most honest glisten to them. All he wanted was to make her smile like that forever. “Thanx. You’re not too bad yourself.” she said as she tossed him the ball. “I’ll see you around.” She grabbed her bag and started heading back to the dorms. “Maybe we could do something later,” Xavier yelled after her. She turned and said, “Maybe.” Harper “And just like that she’s gone,” Harper said pushing Fahlynn. “I can’t believe you’re actually not going to give her the slightest chance. She’s hot, fine, and sexy. Damn, she’s one hell of a vamp,” he smiled shaking his head at Fahlynn. Harper didn’t know why he was passing up this skillfully crafted creation the Lord was humbly giving him. “Would you please shut up about her,” Fahlynn said opening the door and tossing his bag on the couch. “She’s not that pretty.” “Are you going blind too she’s an eight and a half you know what-she’s a nine. You’re giving up a nine,” Harper yelled going to the fridge and grabbing he and Fahlynn a water. “You really don’t want to give her a chance?” “She’s really not for me I’m happy with Leah,” he said as he caught the water Harper threw at him. “If there was no Leah or anyone else would you honestly pass her up?” Harper asked knowing that there was no way in hell any sane single guy would pass up on a nine especially a vampire nine. “Harp she’s pretty and everything but I’d pass her up for a relationship in a heartbeat.” “Who you two talking about Noah or Amber?” Shalimar asked going to the fridge. “Neither, we saw Stephanie”- “Sapphire,” Fahlynn said correcting Harper again. “Sapphire, you sure say her name a lot for a guy that’s not interested,” Harper said teasing Fahlynn. “Anyway this chick is a total nine. And she just kicked Xavier’s ass in soccer. It was an epic one on one and she owned his ass. I was telling Fah we have to get her on the team.” “Really?” Shalimar asked Fahlynn because Harper was known to exaggerate a story to new extremes and nothing was more extreme than some random girl beating Xavier in Soccer. “She’s good but we’re okay without her,” Fahlynn said downplaying her. Harper was looking at Fahlynn like he just had a mental breakdown. “Are you insane, she’s f*****g amazing. No one has ever been able to score against Xavier, but she did it multiply times. When she took the ball from him he never got it back.” “For real,” Shalimar said grabbing his phone. “What are you doing,” Fahlynn asked. “Calling Lotus shut up.”
