Luna’s office. Third person’s POV When Talia got to Luna’s office, she was surprised to receive a message from one of the warriors; asking her to join them in the Alpha’s office and this caused her already heightened agitation to increase. She dreadfully walked to the Alpha’s office and knocked on the door. “Come on in,” she heard the alpha say. Stepping in, she greeted both the Alpha and Luna while noting the absence of the Beta and his female. To this, she heaved a sigh of relief. “You may sit down,” the Luna offered her a seat, and the Alpha immediately started talking. “Well, you know this pack has been good to you, and up until now you have not had an opportunity of showing your loyalty. I expect you to carry out this new assignment diligently.” He said. “I do not want any issues or complaints coming from your new Luna,” His mate finished off his statement. Talia’s reaction was just a simple “yes, Alpha,” The Luna continued as if to carry on. “The only problem I have is that you cannot be mind- linked; as a result of not having a wolf. But that will not be a problem, as the new Luna will be assigned her guards as soon as she arrives.” Looking me straight in the eye, she continued. “you know how important your assignment is, right? I believe this is the destiny the Moon Goddess assigned to you. You are to be more than a maid to your Luna; should a situation arise that endangers her life, you know it’s your life for hers.” I gulped down the bile rising in my throat and wondered why I refused to leave with Mimi. Refusing to go on that trip, I was sure will be the biggest mistake I will ever make, and it now looks like it may cost me my life. After a few seconds of both not saying anything else, I stood up and made to excuse myself when the Alpha asked if I had moved my things to the mansion. “No,” I replied. “I better go and do so right away as I don’t want you doing that when she arrives, because as soon as she arrives, consider yourself on duty.” Axel I rounded up the intruders who had tried sneaking into the royal land through the northern border and shoved them into the great hall. Just as I was pushing them in, the Prince did the same — having ambushed the ones that tried sneaking in through the eastern border. We both had felt the presence of intruders earlier this morning and followed the flow of foreign energy to find their location and once we did that, I decided to split and go after them. Known to be a ruthless killing machine; my strength was equal to that of the Prince, and I was very sure I could single-handedly takedown a whole pack. In this confidence, I shifted into my wolf and once Jax took over, it was easy for him to follow the foreign scent of the intruders. The first time I picked up an odd smell in the Palace, the King and Queen had been very surprised how a werewolf could have the instincts of a Lycan, and they had missed the smell. It had come to me like a stench, and it turned out it was a spy posing as a diplomat in the council of elders. The King had asked me to join the meeting during my second year at the palace. I remembered sitting there, wondering what that repulsive smell coming from that Alpha was and thinking how only I could smell it. During the refreshment break, I had sought out the Prince, and he had immediately informed the King. It turned out that particular Alpha was not who he claimed to be. He cloaked himself in magic to prevent anyone from sensing the negative aura about him, and it was the stench of that cloak I was picking up. When he was brought before the King, it was a shame he couldn’t disclose the needed information before he just bowed over and died, as if an external force was controlling him. Back to the present, I looked at the intruders. They were seven in total; I hoped the information would be gotten out of them as to why they were trying to infiltrate the royal palace. As the King stood up, the intruders were visibly shaken. He was well known for his ruthlessness; he went straight to the one standing in the middle. Looking at him straight in the eyes and in what seemed to be a second pull of the guy’s heart out, he tossed at the feet of the next guy — without so much as blinking an eye. The fear in the remaining men was visible. “Take them to the dungeon and have them chained with the silver spiked collar,” he said. To which the two Lycan guards obeyed. “Make sure wolf’s bane is rubbed on their wounds continuously,” he commanded. I had expected the King to question them, but obviously, he had something else in mind. Walking into my room, I went straight to the shower, and just as I was stepping back into the bedroom, I felt a strange sensation hit my core and almost knock me off my feet. Jax gave a soulful growl, and I knew he felt it too. I asked him what the matter was, and he responded that he couldn’t exactly say, but all of a sudden — the urge to go home came on me, as I have never felt it since I came to the palace. I hurried down to the King’s quarters to ask his permission, to inquire of the palace oracle. Wanting to know if my parents were fine — to which they offered to follow me to see the oracle. I quickly shifted, allowing Jax to take control as he was becoming too agitated, and ran to the oracle. Surprisingly, the King and Queen were already there when I arrived and explained the reason for our coming. The oracle is so old that no one knows her age; not even the King and Queen as she has been the oracle even before they were born. Although she is blind, they always say that she saw without the use of her eyes. As soon as she sensed my presence, she turned and looked in my direction — as though she was seeing me and said, “Ah young Alpha, a warlock indeed, your destiny is calling to you; the time has come for you to pick up the mantle the goddess has given to you. There is a tremendous amount of power locked within you. But don’t worry, with your mate joining forces with you, both of you will unlock the powers you hold and even the witches will envy both of you. Be warned; darkness and evil have been growing for decades, just as you have been training hard all these years. It has also been training and gathering its forces waiting for the right time to strike.” ‘So, it was the weight of my destiny that almost pulled me down?” I asked. She paused and turned to the window facing the trees as if listening to them and then continued. “What you felt earlier was the longing of your mate. She has waited for you for a long time and now that you are to be joined, the elements are aligning for that union.” As if all these were not enough, she carried on, “there is more to your mate than just being a white wolf, just like you are an ancient guardian and watcher — so is she.” “The goddess has entrusted you with the fire element; you will burn and scourge your enemies. She is air, and you need her to fuel your fire and she alone can also cool, calm, and soothe you.” “Thank you, oracle,” I tried to say However, before I could finish, she waved her left hand and said, “I see a lot of confusion and chaos around you and your mate. But be rest assured, she is the only one that can anchor you and rule with you.” “This is a lot to take in”, I thought, and was shocked when she responded to me. ” There is more, but I think you have enough to think about and I am sure you will know what to do — as situations present themselves.” After saying that, she fell into a trance and the monarchs that have always been like a family to me came and gave me a hug — expressing that they are with me all the way. I decided to go on a run to clear my mind. Doing that at this point would do both myself and my wolf a lot of good. Plus, I needed to blow off steam as I was getting anxious to meet my mate, and a whole week was now looking like a whole lifetime; I felt like kicking myself for not leaving the same day that she had arrived — which was this evening. Third Person’s POV Talia just finished moving most of her things to her new base, although she did not have much to move anyway. It had taken her and Nate just a single trip to move everything, and about half an hour to unpack. The wardrobe looked empty even after she was done hanging and putting away all her things. Thanking him, they both walked out, and she went back home to get ready for the arrival of the future Luna, as she did not feel it was right for the Luna to always settle in before her. Looking at her, Nate sighed inwardly. He always secretly felt sympathy and empathy towards her. But she was always careful not to show, as she did not want to be pitied. His mind wandered back to how the pups had been inseparable; and as teenagers, he had fallen in love with her — but always hid behind brotherly love. His mum had told him severally that he shouldn’t become involved with her, as it would only cause more pain when they both found their mates — especially if one happened earlier than the other. That was exactly what had happened. He found his mate Amara, almost 3 years ago now, and had fathered a pup some months back — while Talia was still yet to meet her mate. Amara had joined forces with his sister Debbie to make Talia’s life miserable. She assumed that the stupid lie Debbie told her: that I and Talia were dating secretly and no matter what I said, was true — and she tenaciously held on to what she believed. On her own Talia did all she could to avoid both Debbie and Amara, although if it came down to it, she could hold her own against both of them — after all, she had trained all by herself from age seven when she had it in her heart to become a warrior. A lot of people thought she was weak, without realizing the strength packed in that little body. She still tried out to become a warrior and has defeated a lot of wolves and she-wolves. She was disqualified by the Alpha because having no wolf had some negative impact on her — such as the inability to mind link and to heal fast when injured. “What are you thinking that’s got you so quiet?” she asked. “Well, I’m just worried about you. Seeing as you have always wanted to remain home and lead an invisible life. But now you have been thrust into the limelight; as you will always be with the incoming Luna,” he replied. “When has life ever listened to me?” was all she could reply as they made their way to the house they both used to call home.
