Frenzy

::Damien's POV::     We had to hurry!      My wolf was still alive in case that weakling failed at his task. I guess it was risky into believing someone to do such a task in the first place.         Did I mention my wolf prefers not to think, only kill?      I narrowed at my own reflection in the rear view mirror, and I guess Adam thought it was directed at him.     He looked away, and remained silent.     ''I know you claim to be her best friend and all, but you do know it is against pack policy to go rogue and go back.'' I reminded.     ''That place was never my home.'' he curled his lips inward, ''I just stayed there because of Sarah.''     ''And Gilbert?'' me and my big mouth. He had just lost his mate and I pitied those icy cold white irises of his.     ''Gilbert was everything I lacked to be. But even he was never wanted in the pack.'' he muttered.     ''I'm sorry,'' I apologized for being insensitive, ''I wish him peace.''     ''It does feel relieving knowing that he won't suffer nay further, but to realize that his time was cut more than it should have definitely killed me inside.'' I heard him say.     ''What do you mean? What do you mean by his time was cut shorter?'' I glanced at the rear view mirror once again.     Adam was in the back seat, now looking out the window. With a heavy sigh and after a choked up silence he finally breathed out.     ''He had cancer.''     My eyes shot wide open, but my lips remained sealed. I did not know how to respond to that.     ''It's okay,'' he assured me, ''He just wanted to continue living as if he never had it. But he had lung cancer.''     I kept on driving.     ''It sucked because he never smoked! But the people he used to be with were heavy smokers. The doctors diagnosed him since two years ago. He felt like he always had asthma, because he had it since he was a kid. But then again,'' he paused,'' his mother smoked while he was pregnant too.     ''I guess it finally triggered after he became an adult.'' he sank deeper into the seat.     I chose to stay quiet, but I noted this down, maybe the luna did not know of this.     ''It would only make her more sad if you tell her dumbass!'' my wolf lifted an eye at me.     I know this. As much as she didn't deserve to feel any more pain or sorrow I don't think she should be comforted with a lie.     ''I believe this is a personal matter between friends. At least give him the opportunity to inform her first.''     He was right. I could tell that Adam was waiting for the right time after properly mourning, but...     ''Wait! What about saying good bye to him?'' I was referring to Gilbert's funeral.     I was so immersed with all the hectic recent events I was guilty of forgetting why we went to that forsaken pack in the first place!     ''I cannot bare to see him again, my wolf said his good bye that very night and it made me understand that I still had a role to play.'' he almost looked like he cracked a smile.     ''And that's to protect Sarah.'' he finally grinned a small smile.     I had to give mutual respect for this man, because he really had no duties or role to actually risk his life for her, yet he chose to regardless of his hardship. That wasn't just friendship. That was true love between friends.     We closed in to our territory, to think that one of the strongest packs were residing neighbors to a scum pack was beyond me. But I had to admit that there was at least one person there I had respected.     The drive seemed to lag on forever because my mind had been focused on getting to the pack hospital as soon as possible.      ''You do know that leaving a pack means you won't be able to go back? You're basically a rogue right now.'' I added.     ''That place was never my home to begin with. Yes, I met my mate there, but he always wanted to get out of it since the get go. But...'' he paused, ''I couldn't leave Sarah.''     ''I know the whole mate bond thing would always make you choose your partner's ideals, but Gilbert understood how important she was to me and agreed to carry what we felt was our duty to protect her.'' he then turned to meet my gaze in the rear view mirror, ''The b***h may be stubborn, but for a very good reason. She's been through too much for anyone to live by.''     There was a bit of empathy leaking into my heart. I was a bit ashamed of myself because I did find her to be annoyingly stubborn at some point, but as I am learning more and more about her I had to become more considerate.     ''But the thing about me being a rogue means I do not have a pack to call home anymore.'' he sighed, ''I don't really think I can just go wherever Sarah is without permission.''     The defeated look on his face was really saddening. His pure white irises were blank to the eye, but I could tell he was holding back on a lot of things.     ''Look,'' I continued driving, ''I myself do not have the power to welcome you into the pack, the alpha or luna does. And seeing how you do mean a lot to her all she has to do is say the word.''     I hoped that sounded reassuring.     ''But with what Derrick had done to her, I am not sure that she would trust me the same way again.''      Ouch.      That was true, I guess he was overthinking on about a lot of things.      We got past the entrance of the gates, the guard recognized me instantly and forewarned that the pack may seem in a frenzy.     In a frenzy? Why would they do that?     When we arrived at the hospital I felt a really dreadful feeling wash over me. The hospital looked normal in every way from the outside, but I rushed in right away after I parked.     Adam followed suit.     I knew she was to be in the ICU district. I by passed all the nurses and staff who were giving me surprised looks.     But, we needed to get there and see our luna.     We passed the double swing doors, we made it to the ICU. We cut a few corners and I realized I couldn't sniff out her scent due to the overwhelming aroma of medicines and cleaning supplies.     ''Excuse me.'' I heard a nurse catch up behind us.     ''You cannot be in here.'' she tried to catch her breath.     As she looked up and realized who I was she bowed her head in shame, ''I am sorry Beta, but we can't just let anyone through those doors without permission.''     I know I was basically going to be breaching doctor's orders, but this was a time I urged for some rule bending.     ''We are looking for the luna. Where is she?'' I firmly ordered rather than asked.     The nurse remained silent.     ''Where is sh-,'' before I could ask again the head nurse Diana stepped in from behind me.     ''You might want to see for yourself then Beta.'' her voice rasped as she too seemed to be drained from her shift.     ''You are dismissed, they will be escorted by me.'' she addressed the nurse, who then in return bowed and left.     I turned around to face her. She wasn't looking at me though, but at Adam.     ''I don't know if I can permit someone who is outside of our clan into the room.''      ''He is her guardian, he saved her from further harm.'' I had to come up with something.     ''It will be on your hands if anything happens.'' she firmly told me.     She turned around and began to guide us through the intensive care unit wing. I had realized that they were in full capacity as well!     ''What's going on?'' I began to analyze every bed we passed by. There were warriors being restrained into stretchers as if they had just been recently admitted into the ICU.     Diana did not say anything but finally brought us to the room that Sarah was in.     I opened the door and my heart dropped.     Sarah was not in the room!     But as my eyes scanned the room I did see a crippled warrior in nursing scrubs.     ''Billy!'' Adam ran to his side.     I guess I was away for so long to adjust to the fact that he was a warrior and a nurse? How much changes have been done while I was gone?     He seemed to be moving the tips of his fingers and toes, but unable to say or move any further.     ''What happened here?'' I looked at Diana.     ''By the looks of it, and the security camera footages, our luna had used her commandment voice on Billy that caused him to be this way.'' she folded her arms.     ''She wouldn't just do that.'' I heard Adam defend her name.     ''There is also something else you should see.'' she picked up the clipboard from the bed side table.     She handed it to me and I started reading. It seemed to be analytics and statistics of Sarah's surgeries, processes and data of recovery. But as I flipped the page my senses froze.     ''She was pregnant?!'' I couldn't believe my eyes, so I re-read the whole thing. Only to be concluded with the same result.     ''Yes, her body was under too much stress and her abdomen and ribs were severely damaged. The fetus did not survive.''     This was the dreadful feeling I had. Not only was Sarah missing, but she had lost her baby.     ''I didn't know Sarah was pregnant.'' Adam looked as if he was beating himself up with the information he just heard.     ''Does anyone know where she had gone?'' I began to panic.     I was going to be in deep s**t if the alpha found out, but that wasn't what I was worried about most. My wolf was biting on my ankles the moment we realized she was missing.     ''We have the guards and patrollers looking for her. They have been unsuccessful as of late.'' Diana sighed in defeat.     ''We have a full capacity, warriors from other branches have been admitted here out of emergencies. I don't know what is going on.''      My wolf growled as his suspicions were correct. I was indeed the War Master Chief of the Crimson Red Pack and I knew what was going on.     War.     As a strategist I knew this would have been the golden opportunity to proceed with an attack. I have my hands full and I haven't been back that f*****g long!     ''I need to do preparations.'' I can feel my mind cranking its gears, ''I'll leave it to you two to find her.'' I referred to the cripple Billy and Adam.     I left.      f**k, dammit, I felt myself going crazy.
