Chapter 9

"We can't stop the heating of that reactor." I seriously said that make them stop arguing. "So what we have to do for now is to make a cooling system to lessen its heat temporarily until the government notify about this situation."   "How are we going to do that?" Kris said. "We can't just open that place. It may be explode sooner than later if oxygen suddenly collides with that heat."   "I know." I turned to Ives. "Give me the whole map of this mountain."   He immediately does what I said and after just a while, he faced his laptop to me and I smiled.   "Great."   "What do you mean great?" Jelah asked.   "First, since we can't open that place, we can just put a hole here." I pointed the middle part of the river. "That's where the water flows over the reactor. It will lessen the heat a little bit while the water continues to flow on it. And to make sure that the water will not stock in that place, we will put a hole in here." I pointed at the side of the mountain that is facing the ocean.   "The reactor will cool down a little bit and its radioactive components will wash up to the ocean to make sure that it will not harm any living things." Maki added.   "That's a great plan." Frazer said. "But how are we going to put a hole in every wall you pointed?"   "There is a mine 2 miles from here and as I see, there is no one there." Maki said. "And I saw that there are some explosive there."   "They are using explosives in the mines?" I exclaimed.   Mines are supposedly operated with extensive care to make sure that every person working there will be safe.   "Never mind the mine. Let's just get what we need right now." I look at Ives. "Stay here and monitor the heating of that place."   He nodded.   "Let's go."   Maki lead the way since he's the one who see that mine. And I am scanning the whole area to find something can help us to make sure that the explosive we are throwing at the river will work.   "Ah." I pointed at the suction machine I saw. "Frazer, get that machine. We are going to need it." I turned to Kris. "Get that metal pipe."   They did what I said while me, Maki and Jelah run towards the mine and get the entire explosive we can get.   "Are you sure this plan of yours will make us through?" Maki asked while packing the explosives.   "I don't." They stop and look at me. "What do you expect? I only know about computers. Not chemicals and nuclear. I just know the basics since Meir is giving that kind of example in my task last time."   "Scylla never mentioned anything about nuclear reactor in every lesson she gave me so I don't also have any idea."   I sighed. "This is the only thing we can do so stop asking me and do what I told you."   They look at each other and shrugged their shoulder then continue on packing the explosives. And as we finish it, I saw Frazer and Kris with the things I told them to pick up.    "Got everything we need?" Frazer asked and I nod. "Then, let's go. Ives said that the temperature of that river is keep rising as we speak."   "And it will keep rising until we cool that reactor." We run again to go back to the river. But before we could even reach it, Meir and Ives blocked us.   "Hey." I look at Meir. "What are you doing here?"   "Frazer sent me an unnatural signal so I flew here as soon as I can to see what is happening and here we are, facing a nuclear explosion." he said.   "And we are going to stop that."   "You don't have the skills to stop that, you dummy." He grabbed the bag that I was holding. "You five have to get off this mountain. My team will handle your plan."   "What?"   "You are still not ready for this, Yeshira! Just go and let us do this." He also grabbed the things that others are holding. "Ives told me the plan you think and we can pull this off."   "I can't even sure if that plan is gonna work."   "It will work." He looked at me straight in the eyes. "You just have to trust my team."   How am I going to trust his team? I don't even know who the hell are they?   "He's right, Shira." Jelah said. "His team is on the top five assets of PYM. The fact that he actually here despite the truth that we can't even contacted the headquarters is one point."   "Fine." I started at Meir. "You better do the job and get off this mountain."   "My team never fails."   "Then, that's good."  "But you have to go to the village and evacuate them." he said that makes me frowned. "Most of the water in this river will scatter trough out the mountain and create a landslide that can cover part of the village so to make sure that nobody will hurt, you will have to evacuate them."   "And what are we going to say to them?" Ives asked. "We can't just tell them that there is a nuclear reactor that is about to explode."   "Okay. Let's just go."   We run toward the terrain to get off this mountain when I remember that my laptop was still at our camp.   I run back before my friends notice me. I don't want them to stop me because that laptop is too much important to me.   I can't just let it lose the only access I have with the NASA. The project that the PYM and I are hoping for is on that laptop.    I even saw Meir and his team doing the things that we are supposedly do earlier. And I guess, what he said is right. We are still not ready for doing something like that because it is a crazy idea.   First of all, I thought that having those suction machine and pipe are enough to finish the first job but now that I saw what they are doing, I mentally thank god for them being here.   They put a wire pass through the river and one of his team is hanging in that while setting up the pipe all the way to the bed rock that has been heating up because of the reactor.   Then, they use the suction to suck all the water inside the pipe and when they finally empty it, they put a third of the explosive we gather.   And before they even light up that, I immediately run so that Meir will not see me in that place when he clearly said that I should get off the mountain.   "I knew it."   "Oh s**t!" I was shock when I saw Jelah on the terrain waiting for me. "What are you doing here?"   "I know that you will go back to get that laptop so I wait you here." She grabbed my hand. "Then, let's go."   Before we could run, we heard the huge explosion and it should be the cue that we really need to get this off before a landslide hit us.
