Mate Bond

"I reject you as my mate" A man with anger and disappointment on his face spoke with so much rage and anger. The supposed mate who stood opposite him smirked as she looked at him. Although she was disappointed, she tried not to show it. "So do I" She spoke gently, more like a whisper and with this, both parties turned their back to each other and departed. TEN YEARS AGO The weather was beautiful as everything seemed to be going well with everyone except Lucian as he gently and quietly tried to eat his food but he had lost his appetite as tears trickled down his eyes. “You disgust me” His father spat. They were just an average Beta family trying to fit into the world. Lucian sat at the farthest end of the table. His mother was close to his father, after her, was his sister, the eldest child of the family, Lily. Next to Lily was his brother, his older brother, Seven who was the second child of the family and next to him was Eliana, the third child and second daughter of the family and lastly, him, the last child of the family. Lucian was just ten years of age, he didn’t deserve to be going through what his father had subjected him to. Lily was eighteen years of age, Seven was sixteen years of age, Eliana was thirteen years of age and Lucian was ten years of age. His father had not failed to tell him countless times that he was nothing but a mistake. He had no idea why the moon goddess had given him a different eye and hair color and decided to make him completely different from them but it was not his fault. “Come on, he is our son after all” He heard his mother say as she placed her hand on his father’s hand. “He is your son” His father was quick to yank off his mother’s hand from his. “He is your son because I have no idea where you got him from.” He angrily answered. “What do you mean?” His mother’s eyebrow furrowed. “Are you saying I mated with another wolf to have him?” “Of course not, I did not say so” His father’s anger began to dissipate. “That is not what I mean” “What then do you mean? Tell me?” she crossed her arms across her chest. “Come on, look at him, look at you, look at me, look at Eliana, look at Lily, and look at Seven. You have red hair, same as Lily and Eliana, I have brown hair and so does Seven but hazel colored hair? Neither of us has it yet Lucian does. You are skilled in archery, so is Seven and Eliana. Just like me, Lily is skilled in sword fighting but your son? He has none. Look at the eye color, look at his facial structure, I can go on and on. Can’t you see? He is so different from us all. He is not my son” “Have you ever wondered if he was a blessing? If he is just one special child the moon goddess has blessed us with?” “A blessing?” His father scoffed. “I have been wondering what I did wrong that the Luna decided to curse me” Lucian could not take it anymore as he stood up, transformed into his wolf and ran out of the house. “Lucian” His siblings tried to call him back but he was not ready to listen. “Let him leave. Perhaps, he could return to wherever it is he came from” His father sat back, excited. “Why would you say a thing like that?” Lucian’s mother shook her head. “It is the truth. Anyway, I am off. I want to see the Alpha. His son, Andrew has registered interest in Lily and I am not going to let such opportunity slide by” “But father…I have a mate” Lily objected immediately. “You do not have a mate” He answered immediately. “That useless wolf who cannot afford to take care of himself talk more of you is not your mate.” “Dave, why are you doing this to our children? Why won’t you just leave them alone to be happy? Why?” “I want her happiness Anna. She deserves the best in life. I want her to be happy. Andrew is a good man and I would not dare to push my daughter into what is not right. This is the best decision for her. If I cannot treat her like a Queen, I should be able to take her where she would be treated like a Queen. I shall leave now” He stood up and walked out immediately. “But mother…” Lily looked on to her mother. “Your father is right, Lily. You deserve the best and we really want you to be happy” “Getting married to the son of the Alpha won’t make her happy if she does not want to marry him” Seven supported his sister. “On the contrary, I think she would be happy. If she becomes the wife of the future Alpha, we all would be happy. We will leave this place and stay in a place more dignifying” Eliana supported their mother. “Shut up, Eliana. If you are so desperate to leave this place, why don’t you go marry him instead?” Lily stood up in anger. “Lily, be calm at once” Anna commanded. “I would jump on the offer if I was given” Eliana continued her meal. “Can you all just stop?!” Anna yelled in anger as she rose to her feet and walked away. Lucian ran more and more, into the forest. It was not his fault that he was created different. It was not his fault. He also wanted to look like his father and mother. He also wanted to make his father happy. He wanted to be embraced and praised by his father just like he did for his siblings. Why was he different? Why was he strange? He needed answers but where was he going to get it? Just then, he halted in his steps. He strained his ears to be sure he had heard right. It was the cry of a young girl, more like sobs. He was sure he was not mistaken. He gently tried to trace where the cry was coming from but it seemed to come from the four corners of the forest. It was difficult tracing where the cry was coming from. He however decided to follow his heart. No sooner had he walked further when he stopped. He was puzzled and dazed by what he had seen. “Your Majesty” Dave saluted as he stood right in front of the Alpha. The Alpha was sitting in the living room with his youngest daughter who embraced him like she didn’t want to ever leave him. She loved her father the most. The young beautiful girl was a few years younger than Lucian. As soon as she sighted Dave, she bowed to him and ran. The Alpha smiled as he saw her run off. “She is shy” “Of course, I can see that. She is so beautiful. What is her name?” “Rainbow’ The Alpha answered with pride and happiness. “She is just as beautiful and as colorful as her name. Good afternoon, your highness” Dave bowed. “My soon to be in law” The Alpha smiled back at him as he beckoned on him to have a seat. “How is my son’s bride doing?” “She is doing well. She sends her regard. She would have been here but she has to assist her mother to do some cleaning” “What a good daughter. I know she would be a good Luna” The Luna interrupted as she walked in together with her son, Andrew and her daughter, Sandra who was few months younger than Seven while her youngest daughter, Rainbow hugged her mother tightly. Andrew blushed as he walked towards Dave to greet him. Dave smiled at him as he gave him an accepting hug. “How is my bride and has she accepted to be my bride?” He smiled. “Of course, she has. Who would not want to? Who would not like to be your bride? If I were to be a female of her age, I will try to be your bride” “Of course” Everyone let out a loud laughter. “I would like to meet with her tonight” Andrew smiled. “To..to night?” Dave asked, trying to hide his shock. “That’s great. That way, they can begin to bond with each other” The Luna agreed. “Okay” Dave faked a smile. To hide his nervousness, he knew he had to change the topic. “My Luna, you are indeed blessed. All your children are so beautiful including our soon to be Alpha” “Of course, they took after me” The Alpha boasted. “They took after me” The Luna objected. “I want to take my leave now” Dave bowed as he stood up to leave. “Hold on, you have to give something to our soon to be in laws” The Luna stood up immediately and walked out of their presence. Few minutes later, she walked in with two bags. “Give this to Anna, Seven, Eliana and Lucian. As for Lily, Andrew will bring her gift when he comes visiting tonight” “On behalf of my family, I say thank you my Luna, thank you everyone” He bowed. “It is nothing. We should be thankful to you. Please, do ensure to take care of yourself and everyone” The Alpha smiled. “Please take care of Lily” Andrew added. “Of course” Dave smiled before walking out. All he had to do was order Lily to act normal as he knew she could do something stupid.
