The screen door to the garage apartment slammed closed as Layne hustled through the living room. Instead of heading to the bedroom as he’d planned, he made a detour to the kitchen. Only one thing could get his mind off his problems. Cabinet doors smacked against each other as he rummaged for a bottle of liquor. There had to be one somewhere.
