Chapter Twenty
The next day, I got up and went to work as usual. Sergeant First Class Meadows, my supervisor, noticed my crazy schedule. He called me in his office to see if I was okay. He knew that my step dad had passed and wanted to make sure that I wasn’t overworking myself.
“Specialist Terrell, you love work so much you came in on your day off.”
“It's not my day off. I’m filling in for another soldier.”
He responded, “I know, that’s why I called you in here. You are here around the clock. What's going on?”
Before I could speak, my phone vibrated. It was my brother telling me he had my package. I quickly changed the conversation. I needed to request time off. You have to put in leave ten days in advance. I would need special permission to take time off at short notice.
