Chapter 1
“ Leave here and never show yourself to me or I can't guarantee I won't kill you.”
Those words… so harsh and ruthless.
But he said them to me, a look of disgust flashing in his dark orbs.
I closed my éyes, taking a deep breath to calm my raging emotions. I can't believe that I am back here. As the car slowly drove through the gate, I finally realised that I was indeed back.
Does it feel good to be back? Definitely not but I could never avoid it.
I had always thought that nothing could bring me to this place ever in my life. I hated it but not as much as I hated him.
“ I don't think this is a good idea, we should probably just go back.” Fiona’s concerned voice sounded next to me, making me heave a heavy sigh.
“ What? You want us to run away? Isn't that shameful?” Considering why we came, running away was not an option.
“That's not what I meant. I'm just worried about you.” Fiona said in a low voice. I could see her hands gripping the steering wheel tightly.
" You don't have to worry about me. I'm not here for him." I replied but my emotions were all over the place.
I mean, this is the same place that gave me nothing but bitterness.
All my life, I can't remember anything good coming out of this pack.
Honestly, I would have preferred to be anywhere else but the Bloodmist pack but this meeting was unavoidable.
“ I know that you are strong but before a mating bond, you will be…”
" Weak? Is that what you want to say?” I cut Fiona off before she could complete the sentence.
I have heard that word countless times that I've gotten used to it. That doesn't mean I love hearing people call me weak.
“ You know that's not what I meant. It's no doubt you are strong, otherwise the pack wouldn't be where it is. But it's different when it comes to the mating bond. He is after all your mate.” Fiona countered.
She was right, a mating bond can really mess someone but with all the hatred I felt for him, I doubt any bond could come between that.
“ Ex-mate." I corrected her with a frown.
" You never accepted his rejection so that simply means he is still your mate." Fiona countered.
“ That's not the main point here, I am just afraid that he will make things difficult for you." She added, concern etched in her words.
“ He doesn't have a reason to do that. He never considered me enough to be someone of concern." I replied.
That was something he made crystal clear before he rejected me, humiliated me, stepped on my dignity before chasing me away from the pack.
He was my mate, the only person who was supposed to love me unconditionally. He was the love of my life but instead of making me feel loved, he made me feel useless and worthless. As he uttered those heart shattering and cruel words, he didn't care about my pain. Infact, he took pleasure in my pain.
Fiona did not press on the matter anymore. She knew that the matter at hand was not something we could avoid.
If the meeting wasn't important, I would not have bothered to come here, I never did in the past.
For the past five years I took charge of Crest moon pack, never did I step foot in any Alpha meeting unless it was too important, just like tonight's meeting. Even when I attended, I made sure to dress like a man and cover my face with a mask.
To the world, I am the mysterious masked alpha of Crest moon pack.
Don't mistake my actions for fear, I just didn't want to create unnecessary trouble for myself. A female Alpha who is unmated was bound to attract too many busy buddies and I was the least interested in that.
Parking the car outside the pack house, Fiona stepped out first and I followed.
Taking in the scene before me, nothing seemed to have changed.
Everything was just like it was five years ago but I changed. Over the past five years, I changed from being a nobody to somebody. I was not the same naive and weak Valeria everyone walked over. I learnt to bite back when provoked.
I didn't Know if he changed too or was still the asshole he was five years ago.
A maid approached us and offered to take us to our rooms.
“ This way please." She instructed and we followed without another word.
Funny right? Five years ago, I was kicked away from this very same place. Five years later, I'm being welcomed back with respect. Life can be f****d up and ironical.
If someone told me that I would get such treatment, I would have laughed at their words.
After showing us to our respective rooms, the lady left.
“ The party will start in two hours.” Fiona reminded me before walking to her room.
Stepping inside the room, my eyes wandered admiring the interiors. After living here all my life, this was the first time I was setting foot inside the guests rooms.
Since the party wasn't going to start until evening, I decided to step out.
My legs carried me to the small cottage I used to call home.
Since I was an Omega back then, the lowest in the food chain, I lived at a secluded place specially for omegas. We were never allowed to live in the pack house.
Standing outside, my mind thrust me back to that fateful night.
I was standing outside my small house when he barged in. Actually, I was expecting him that night, waiting for him to acknowledge me as his mate and claim me. He did come but my expectations were shattered when he glared at me with utmost disgust and hatred.
Then he uttered those words that broke me. He peeled every piece of my cloth on my body with his cruel words and left me exposed to the whole pack.
I wanted to plead and beg him to take back his words but he introduced her to me; the perfect mate and Luna for the pack.
That shattered me completely and just when I thought he was done with his cruelty, he shoved yet another bomb at me.
“ Pack your garbage and leave the pack!" He had ordered, his voice cold and emotionless.
No amount of pleading changed his mind. At the end, he kicked me away at night, broken and with nowhere to go.
“ What are you doing here? You should not wander around too much." A familiar voice sounded behind me making me ball my fists.
